I used a variety of treads during the Norweigan winter season last year. Something I learnt on my first outing, if your riding on just pure icey / hardpacked snowy roads — your tyres grip very well but of course (doh!) your feet don’t when it is time to ‘dab’ or put a foot down to halt! I’d suggest some spikes on your shoes too!

Schwable tyres are nice IMO as some of them have a reflective sidewall — which is great for on-road winter time rides.

Nokia make some hefty treads too — more studs / spikes = more price

Just to clear up a confusion…the name “Rhino Rift” is actually refering to a cave that is located on the hillside there. The name for the woodland area is “Long Wood Valley” …oh and it’s a STW nature reserve.

ah…had some fab NewBalance Green! suede hiking boots.

often wore them for mtb'ing too as well as 'dancing' (lol), one brilliant week a soundsystem set up in our local forestry so we could ride and rave simultaneously, fantastic…it was like being in your own film or something!

I would go and inspect it in person…especially as the seller does not seem to be a retro expert himself when it comes to the description.

Key things with frames of this age is looking out for rust and frame damage. Most folk tend to buy just the frame and build them up from there.
Remember the steerer tube is headset size is likely to be 1 1/4" (evolution) oversize, which is quite rare.

I'd reccommend checking out http://www.retrobike.co.uk if you have not already.

    Hey Paul,

I smashed my collar bone to bits a couple of seasons ago on the road.
For me surgey didn't seem to be an option in my case. Healing / bone knitting seemed "geologically" slow, or for quite some time non-existant…however a "full uninion" was eventually achieved…coincidently I went for my first gentle bike ride (nice flat limestone grassland) , around 9 months after the crash.

The main activity I replaced everything with was swimming, right from early on, with broken limb floating / along, and gradually progessing it from there as best as I could. It helped keep fitness and general good form going, and I like to think boosted recovery.

Anyway goodluck with your recovery…sounds as if your well on the way now.

    cheers,

    J

BITD i enquired about some fork DBlx-FAT Chance forks being made.
The ansswer was "we focus on road bike mostly these day's"…

Maybe ntimes have changed sicne tnen?

But for U.K. custom steel I feel D.Y. 4 D.I.Y (build your self)Dave Yates or CURTIS (Design it Your Self) could be more likely…

Main thing is get it "on paper" 1st of of all then talkn2 the framebuilder–they are super wise.

4what it's worth the Roberts to yourWhSp…DBLX were arguably the finest steel bike ever nmade, alonngside teh KB Steel OR.

    Doscuss.Nofuss

If you can get the maker to fabricate scumthing the today… to your ideas lonf\g may the tradition continue.

Sorry if this seems like a rant…but bottom line is Craft custom builders are only as good as thier Cuatomers…
    I maean that sincerely.
    Happy steel trails. m8!

lets have a grouptest of mtb magazines…

the one with the least "grouptest" would be my winner

the ones with best pics and things written about places, faces, and races would score highly

ah what a wonderful trip…I take your singlespeed for sure!

In its favour…reliable and super easy to transport by air –i.e. unlikely to get damaged in transit.

Sounds like theres some legendary riding to be had on it, and if it gets too savage then I beleieve there are ple nty of high quality bike rental outfits…which sounds like a smart option given the rate of attrition on componentry etc.

for persective I bought my singlspeed out to Norway first off, and still choose to get out on that in preference to my more "suitable" full susser!

Whatever you decide have a great time!

    I've gone all 29er' now…

The spin off to this was that I became happy recipient of a box fresh Indy Fab ti Singlspeed in 26 inch flavour.

IFIRC…the route was concieved as a post FMD disease rural economy booster…optimised for multi day BnB based equestrian walking tours.

It great that such a route is waymarked and exits, however my recc. would be to study the map and if possible the ground too beofre committing 100% to the route as it stands. The route does traverse some amazing country.

Seems like a cool line…going back in time there was a excellent illustrated article on the Rideway by Jo Burt in a old MBUK.
Seeing yout bike parked outside Wayland Smithy reminded of that.

Will have to ride it some day…prob on me singlespeed or Brompton 4 luggage carrying capacity

ah..ha! I Was just about to post up thread question on this topic…have been puzzling over a picture in the mag on p72…of a green frame that seems to have a 5 style shaped toptube, but with a blood style linkage.
Had been wondering if it was a less burly blood or something.

I ride around Olso…and met some riders from Bergen last summer, I think they were in a club?…sorry that's a bit vauge!

Post a message on the Norweigan mtb website,

    http://terrengsykkel.no

The section about organising group rides etc. is called 'Utflukt'
(Google translate is useful for understanding). Goodluck!

For perspective I purchased one off here for for just under a grand…it was about 6mts old at the time…don't really know anything about Singular Peg but sounds like a bit of downgrade compared too the Moots.

If your selling, it useful to know that Moots can refurbish the frame (decals / YBB thingy etc.)

some +posts about the group riding etc.

much earlier on in the thread I (eventually) suggested that if infact we are a new generation of Ramblers' then that's just fine -as the original Ramblers (Kinder Mass Tresspass etc.) social movement was rad. So if you choose to ride in groups, do it with advocacy and activism.

A conclusion whihc I realise is not itn the spirit of the O.P. , however this thread made me think about it a bit more…
