security aside, I like using the zip ties type locks to ensure my bike is snug against the parking rack and does not get tipped / fall over (crunch expesive parts)

@chipps have already read Ferrentino’s latest piece…was relieved and delighted that his writing persists…been enjoying since no. 1 1994.

I asked about print option, (after already subscribing)…here was the response.

    “ John,
We always hope to improve our offerings and that hope includes adding non US residents to the print option.

    Thank you”

@stwhannah … that’s cool I am actually a U.K. based rider …if the beta crew offered a similar option would be a nice … but can also understand why it could be a a bit tricky.

Very happy with digital in general. However anything that reduces screen time, provides an analogue escape from apps etc. is pretty vital in my ‘book’ , even more so in these funky present times. All that said, am just pleased that the former Bike magazine crew found a way to keep on …

Hello thanks for posting this… have just signed up for a subscription.

Print option is on available to folk located within U.S.A

So digital only, but it looks like quite a wide portfolio of magazine beyond just The BETA (Band) crew…

Feel like prob worth a punt, would love a quarterly print option as have Bike magazine since the Premier issue (1994). For now am delighted , “it continues” as Pete Tong say’s.

at the top end of the price range for these products, but take a look and listen at Naim QB or Naim Muso wireless speakers … if you hunt around and decide the 1st generation models suits you might even get a deal

Wow! love the illustrated custom Brompton…always

1st I’d recommend getting a test ride , to make sure it suits, and decide on gearing options based on that.

I run a 2speed for lightness, and carrying, (some titanium helps too ;-)…)

Schwable tyres are really reliable, and available in a range of styles depending on terrain–speediness.

Something I find really helpful is adding some micro barrends , like X-Lite ‘knobbies’ from a long time ago, and being  a mtb ride I squeezed some cut down X-Lite XC risers in as well — however handlebars is an area that Brompton has really progressed, and there are numerous styles availible now.

I used mine a lot, commuting, ragging around the Glastonbury Festival site (when not muddy)…even offroad following friends around the LeighWoods tracks. Some fairly long rtouring type rides too, made comfortable because I was running my preferred mtb saddle / grips / and nice Shimano XT pedals. Overall lots of fun, to be had and very useful too. Happy Bromptoneering!

Please could the Fabulous Fuschian Fresian make a “Foot & Moouth” memorial flypast somewhere in the image?

If the FFF is not availible, some lush landcsape vista’s + singletracks woukd be ace too

Loved the Olympus Trip 35RC, photographed most of my early mtb / mnt. adventures using it…the body even has a bit of a dent from an early crash. Continued in use until late 90s, using a OMD-EM5 now :-)

See how it goes, however I find v.short barends a useful addition.

I also swapped out the brake levers, although I think the latest Brompton OEM kit is much improved

    Have fun on it!

Cy, is a switch over to having some frames welded in the U.K likely to happen?
There was a comment made about this earlier on in the thread…
Anyhow all the best with getting things going.

Am not a racer, but took part on someone’s behalf last year.

I found a uper fun course , (was on a rigid singlespeed) and a cool atmosphere :-)

I may even return intentionally this year!

    Goodluck!

It possible as others on here have suggested that Enigma could make a repair. I’ve being thinking of getting some of my old ‘retro’ frames new lease of life via them

If your looking for a replacement there was an amazing MOOTS YBB (softail) being offered for sale on here in the past few day’s.

I have been riding a MOOTS these last few seasons, and they are fabricated to an incredibly high standard, it’s certainly kept it together v.well.

    Goodluck!

was there @ Glasto in ’94 post A-Lvl exams / pre Geology Practical exam (the festival was perfect revisions for this; i.d. animal / mineral / vegetable specimens)… However do not recall the sounds system cutting out, but was quite entranced by a nearby mega-strobe coming from a market stall that was kida out doing the light show on on the NME stage.
That Orbital were playing again live was news to me…am sure also I went to there last ever gig! Groovy thread. Cheers, J

    Alex,

A possible solution if you have some “Blue-Peter” skills and time , is to make your own box from a material called “Corratex”…
It’s like a plastic corrugated cardboard material–(similar or the same as estate agent signs?). A friend made some bike boxes from it for an event they were doing.

Just in from a filthy ride…enjoy that volcanic dust!

I find the daily disposible contact lenses great for riding in, if there is ever a problem (cannot recall a real problem) you can just remove the lens–however the combo of crud catcher on bike and Oakleys clamped in place I never find it an issue…to be on the safe side I carry some spare lenses and some litte plastic ‘things’ (0.35ml) of eyewash.

    Hei there ?Duncan

Ian. … geuss that’s what the question mark was for!

Curtis v.nice indeed, and also appreciated those Seven ti handlebars with a jolly amount of backsweep. Was liking the Royce sticker one of the frames too…an kinda cool ‘best of British’ build

tangent (jon?) – is that the bonty ti you showed me when noteeth and I popped over to yours one day many years ago? (might have the wrong person completely!)

Hei there ?Duncan, yes it is the very same frame / place / and person!!! :D

I was living in Oslo for a few good seasons, and one very long winter so can sympathise with your flooding prob. Although personally falling icicles were more more of hazard as the spring kicked in. Higly reccommend the riding around Oslo, if you get a chance to travel!

    All the best,

    J

was down there today with noteeth…it was wicked, however had bleached it too hard in San fran Bristo…so returning tomorrow (by Brompton) for another look.

Had been toying with the idea of taking a retro ti frame along which is in need of repair for evaluation by the Enigma crew, but think that could be a bit of a chore.

I really enjoy using my Olympus XZ-1…and the quality seem to be excellent. It is a compact offering manual controls, and has some nice creative art filters built in too which are fun on a dull day etc. It has a lens cap, however this does not bother me.

When out riding I carry it in a LowePro Apex AW30 bag which give it a decent amount of protection, althought the fit is a little snug so packing / unpacking can be a little slow.

Hiya, not sure if this is helpful info or not…

In late 2007 I got a set from Pace from the last batch being made in 1inch flavour / titanium…not sure of the lenght but good for old skool short travel (<48mm).

    To find some?

1.check with Pace , they might have re-issued them?
    2. watch / post a WTD. ad on RetroBike // here?

Goodluck! they’re lovely forks / either ti or regular!

For those interested the washing machine bike…it is on display somewhere in the National Museum of Scotland. The machine is painted white so can see how the confusion arose, however IIRC I think Mr Obree made use of some bearings from a washing machine. Whatever, it clearly had a very effective spin cycle :?

Goodluck to him with new project.

interesting thread…for the last few seasons I’ve been using
Scrapa Zen’s , for a little more cash there’s a Goretxt version availible. Vibram sticky rubber sole, and good quality build and aesthetics.

Must say I agree with the an earlier posters comment about some cycling shoes looking a bit ‘special’!
