Thread in the mech has stripped 🙁
If you don’t want to replace the mech then I’d bin the spring, put the adjuster back in, and let the cable tension keep it pressed in. Do any tension adjustments at the shifter.

tandemwarriorsFull MemberMolegrips on the screwdriver for extra torque? And they’ve probably got some threadlock on, so heat them up with a hot air gun (or hairdryer) to soften the adhesive.
tandemwarriorsFull MemberMine wore out in July, but to save spending a few quid on a new one I decided to stick my spare 36t middle and bashguard on for a while.
They’re still on, and as much as my old skool brain wanted to stick with a triple, I’ve not found myself needing a big ring at all.
Food for thought!
RobtandemwarriorsFull MemberLove 633 Squadron, and had the theme music as my ring tone for ages.
Which was great until someone called me when I was on a crowded tram in Bremen 😳
Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberTim is brilliant, his knowledge & understanding of the running changes is awesome. He changed the bushes in my RC40’s last autumn and they felt better than new.
Can’t recall if he had email but he’ll go through everything over the phone.Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberSlight hijack, but we’ve got a spare USE shockpost sitting in the garage. It was on the back of the tandem to replace our original Coda seatpost but became surplus when we got the full-suss. Only been used a few times.
Drop me a line if you’re interested.
Cheers,
RobtandemwarriorsFull MemberYep had a cracker, 5 of us round the Corrigrogain circuit from Arrochar. Shame the skies clouded over so no stars, but mild, dry and brilliant fun 😀
tandemwarriorsFull MemberGrandaughter tandemwarrior is in the local Gaelic school and loves it. We’re over on the West (Dunoon) where there is a bit more evidence of the language, ie most roadsigns are bilingual and the Royal National Mod is here again next year.
While mum & dad aren’t doing any Gaelic, Mrs tandemwarriors is doing two night classes to support her. One is run by the same teacher from the primary school, the other by the local college. We can apply to get funding to pay for a course. There’s even full immersion courses available at the Gaelic University on Skye.Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberHome-made remote lockout for the RP23 on the back of the tandem…..
Its controlled by a gripshift on the stoker handlebars…
Sandy is only wee, so her short arms can’t reach the propedal lever while riding. This makes life so much easier.
tandemwarriorsFull MemberSlight hijack, but me and Mrs tandemwarriors are also in Grizedale this weekend, staying in the camping pods for a friends birthday biking bash. I’ve done a few rides round there but am reading the routes with interest.
Also any pub recommendations for eating at night, budget end of the scale?
Hijack over!
Thanks, RobtandemwarriorsFull MemberYou’ll always catch out an ex-racer-just turn right! Greyhound tracks run anti-clockwise so they’re brill at left turns, but no practice on right-handers!!!
tandemwarriorsFull MemberMrs tandemwarriors had always had dogs, but I never had. Our first was a rescue greyhound, and he was just brilliant. They’re so used to being poked and prodded at the track that a toddler climbing all over them and under them is barely worth waking up for! Red would have a 20 min walk morning and night, but would happily go longer if offered. If it was raining (pretty likely here in Argyll), he’d look out the door, look at me as if to say “aye, right”, then go back to bed. They are the most regal looking dog, and those eyes just make you melt inside.
Only thing to be careful of, and any good greyhound re-homing charity will spell this out over and over again, is that they have been bred and trained to chase anything small and furry. So cats, small dogs, rabbits, squirrels, are all perfectly reasonable prey, so having them running off the lead can be difficult until you’ve got a good recall trained into them. Daughter-tandemwarriors has a ex-racer with good recall so happily runs off the lead.
Here’s Red at full speed in a local field, just a beautiful sight…Most greyhound charities have open days where you can meet the dogs and they’ll see if you’re an appropriate home for an ex-racer, go have a look, you won’t regret it.

tandemwarriorsFull MemberIf my sad teenage memory is intact, that’ll be Knight Automated Roving Robot? and (thouhg not 100% on this one) Garthe Knight was Michael Knight’s evil brother with dodgy facial hair?
Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberThat needs a “do not drink tea while watching this clip” warning. Need to clean tea off monitor now……
Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberPrivilege, and a 10 year retest to remind all the ‘good drivers’ that:
35 in a 30 zone IS speeding, if you were supposed to do 35 then that’s what the sign would say.
Blindspots- you don’t suddenly grow an extra set of eyes in the side of your head when you pass the test.
Indicating correctly- yep, they’re there to TELL people what you’re GOING to do, not decorate what you’re already doing.Rant over, been a long day !!!
tandemwarriorsFull MemberI always look before turning or changing lanes, i may not have cocked my head 45 degrees and take my eyes off the road to make it obvious
Ah, the old wives tale of ‘make it obvious so the examiner can see you’re looking’. You aren’t moving your head to make it obvious, you’re moving your head to allow your eyes look into a blindspot that they simply can’t see without moving your head, which may be the one thing between you and another dead motorcyclist.
The examiner (and any decent instructor) isn’t watching your head, we’re watching where you LOOK, ie where your eyes point. You can shake your head side to side without ever moving your eyes from the car infront! What you can’t see, you don’t know about.Your instructor should go through the sheet and work with you on the areas in question. To be honest I feel ashamed if a pupil gets into double figures on driver (minor) faults. It does sound like you’ve been put in for test too soon.
tandemwarriorsFull MemberAs mentioned above, worth checking who the underwriter is.
We went with Sainsburys insurance to get reasonable bike cover, and last friday became very glad we did. The bikes were in the garage and escaped, but we had a house fire and the place is wrecked by fire, smoke and water, we’ve lost everything. The cottage will be stripped back to just 4 outside walls then completely rebuilt over approx 12 months.
Turns out the Sainsburys policy is supplied by Halifax, and underwritten by Lloyds. 2 hours after phoning (while the fire brigade were still damping down) £600 had been wired into our account for emergency clothes & accommodation. Had a further £1000 since and hotel expenses. Today we found a house to rent for the next year, and the insurance are covering that too.
It was just by chance we are underwritten by Lloyds, but in that horrible moment when you need it, I’m bloody glad we are!Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberLove my Switchblade, we both have one for riding the tandem.
Sandy is especially fond of hers as it stops branches smacking her in the face if I cut a corner a bit tight! A full face would be way too hot, but the extra protection over a normal lid is very welcome when bailing out is a bit trickier than normal!
tandemwarriorsFull MemberCome down our way towards Dunoon. Some nice trails at Glenbranter and lots of riding in the wider Dunoon area. Email in profile if you fancy a trip down here.

tandemwarriorsFull Membersimonralli2, that still rates as one of my favourite days on the bike ever 🙂
tandemwarriorsFull MemberBeen playing ‘guess the tv show’ from this thread!

tandemwarriorsFull MemberBack home now, thanks again to everyone for your input, much appreciated and very entertaining as always!
We went to the grog & gruel on the first night, and we went back the second night, the mums liked it so much.
Good atmosphere, friendly service, very reasonable prices and most importantly damn nice food. The vension burger is huge and delicious, and the bread & butter pudding is FANTASTIC!!
And try the Glencoe oat stout, lovely pint.Cheers,
RobtandemwarriorsFull MemberBlimey, thanks everyone. Looks like the g&g is favourite, and its only a short walk from our b&b.
And if you haven’t done it, the railway journey is absolutely stunning! The weather helped, a mix of sun and moody skies, but crossing Rannoch Moor on the train is beautiful and barren. No wonder it was voted the worlds most picturesque railway journey.
Thanks again, better go and feed the mums!
RobtandemwarriorsFull MemberStar Fleet for the win!
I got the box set for Christmas and have thoroughly enjoyed watching it all the way through. And singing to the theme tune!!tandemwarriorsFull MemberI use Adidas Evil Eye with the prescription insert. Very happy with them and you’re not tied to a single colour lens.
tandemwarriorsFull MemberNever noticed! Always used my one and only BB tool for removing Shimano & Raceface taperlock square taper BB’s and its always fitted. Could the splines be clogged with crud?
tandemwarriorsFull MemberTis not as bad as you think!
If I could ride her then I’d have never stopped, but she was retired in ’97 due to a cracked seat tube, just below the lug at the top. She’d hung in the garage ever since until I decided to try the snowbike. Would never risk her as a bike again, the crack goes round about 60% of the circumference.tandemwarriorsFull MemberYep that Colella tandem was at a few of the NEMBAs’ too in the mid 90’s. I was about to tell you who was riding it, but its gone from my mind! It might have been Guy Kesteven?
tandemwarriorsFull MemberMy original Clockwork (well after I bent the original forks and replaced them with AccuTrax) stayed in its orange & white colour scheme for about 5 years.
Then Dave Lloyd did this black & orange fade for me…..
And here she is again back in December…
Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberJust had this back from Lindsay:
I’m 5ft 5 and have a short and it’s perfect, according to Orange I’m borderline for needing a long but opted for the short, you can always use a slightly longer stem if you need a bit more space. I’d only go for a long if you’re taller than me. Oh and whatever you do, buy one of them, it’s brilliant!!!!
Hope it helps.
Rob
tandemwarriorsFull MemberDaughter bought one last summer and loves it. Pretty sure its a short. I’ll see if she’s free and can pop on here later and help out.

tandemwarriorsFull MemberAre you sure the engine is actually overheating, or is the gauge just going up & down? I believe temp gauges are pretty heavily damped, so quick movement of the needle is more likely to be an electrical issue than an genuine reading.
Had something similar on our 323F, and it took me 8 months to track it down!
Temp needle would rise quickly, then drop quickly too. I was doing the usual things when the needle went high, ie heater on hot and blower on full. It was when I did this and then opened a window I noticed that the electric window made the temp needle drop!!
I went round everything- changed coolant, checked water pump, changed thermostat, changed gauge temp sender (as domwells27 says, there’s often 2 senders), pulled hair out. Then went round the engine bay checking for any earthing faults.
Eventually found one of the connectors on the main earth wire from the engine block had corroded and was showing a high resistance. The engine was thus trying to earth via the easiest path, up the temp gauge!!
Cleaned up the connections, problem solved!!Hope that helps.

My Blur is called Hilda after my grandmother who left me a small some of money with instructions to treat myself. It was my first “proper” mountain bike and I’ll never part with it… Her… Whatever.Yep, with you on this one. Meet Nancy….
named after my Grandma who left us a wee inheritance that was just enough to buy the frame & shock. Iroic thing is, Grandma didn’t like getting dirty and couldn’t ride a bike.
Nancy is going to Glentress tomorrow, so if you see her (& us) give us a shout!tandemwarriorsFull MemberGolden eagle about 15 feet away! Was in the culvert at the side of the forest road and took off as we passed. Scared the life out of us, those wings are the size of a hang glider!!
tandemwarriorsFull MemberThe slab does go on a tandem! But then Paul & Nic are completely bonkers!
