All that’s telling me is that the interior is taller. Are you saying that the legroom, boot length, etc is also the same?

Are you suggesting that the Tiguan has the same legroom and boot length as a Golf, just because they are both built on the same ‘platform’?

Do you know that the Polo, Golf, Passat, Tiguan and about 6 other VW’s are all on that platform?

The whole point of the platform is that it’s modular and can be used to build cars of lots of shapes and sizes with fewer production steps.

Does anyone actually think politicians are actively involved in the UK response? They are all sat ashen faced, nodding dumbly as the CMO tells them exactly what our response will be and when. None of them signed up for dealing with something as serious as a global pandemic.

it doesn’t. Do you know what exponential means?

    Do you?

Secondary infection rate is currently assumed to not less than 2.

    So 1 infection leads to 3, 3 becomes 7, 7 becomes 15 etc.

Korea obviously has a fair bit of spread before they got on top of it hence the big numbers, the important thing is they have had declining numbers for several days so no reason why we can’t do the same.

Apart from the fact that S. Korea has more hospital beds per capita, more available cash and a completely different culture to UK.

Some of the views being espoused on this thread are truly some of the most distasteful things I’ve read on STW for a very long time.

If the government advise you not to travel to the area you’re booked at then your insurance will pay. If you decide not travel as you don’t want to risk abs there’s no such advice they won’t.

There’s two types of FCO advice – either don’t travel at all or avoid non-essential travel. The latter may not be covered under standard holiday insurance policies.

Do the degraded batteries still require the same time to recharge? i.e. does the ppm charging cost increase as battery life decreases?

My experience of doing this twice now for Mrs. TP has been to get an idea of what she wants, then arrange with a Jewellers for them to have selection available for her to view by appointment and chose the one she likes.

On a related note, why don’t they just have the permanent bit of hosepipe in the ground like they do at driving ranges?

Lots of golf courses have ‘winter tees’ adjacent to the actual tee. These are typical a patch of artificial grass, just like a driving range. I have seen them fitted with fixed tees.

    On the ‘proper’ tee box:

    – The tee gets moved around the tee box by the greenkeeper, just like pins get moved on greens
    – Golfers tee the ball at different heights depending on preference/club selection
    – Golfer tee the ball in different locations depending on shot shape/distance/divots/preference/left handed/right handed etc etc etc

I’d also be concerned about it breaking down!

Does the company actually have a managed ‘fleet’ or is it a small business with cars they actually own and provide to staff?

ok car is not worth repairing and the fault doesn’t impact driving

So are the company refusing to repair the vehicle and insist that you drive it?

This is also a HSE question. I’d refer back to your companies policy on reporting faults and repair. It doesn’t sound like the vehicle is unsafe, but it should at least be appraised by someone qualified to make that assessment.

The PSA/BMW ‘PRINCE’ engine in that era MINI are pretty poor – do some googling. Although, there’s an argument to be made that if a car is still going after 12 years it must have been reasonably well maintained.

Personally, I’d avoid it and buy a Fiesta instead but any 12 year old car needs to be bought based on its condition. If you aren’t comfortable assessing that, take along someone who is.

The only advantage I can see is that it could stop you having two breakfasts. Even an 8 mile ride would make me peckish, so satisfying that with my actual breakfast, rather than a snack, reduces overall calorie intake.

It strikes me that many are missing the point of the move away from ICE cars.

Lots of complaints that BEV range not sufficient, entry cost prohibitive, shorter lifecycles etc. This all appears to assume that we are meant to straight swap our cars over.

The reality is that our current 2 car household, drive anywhere on a whim lifestyles are completely unsustainable.

In the future we will be significantly more restricted in our movement. Be that by car or aeroplane. Journeys will simply need to be better planned and more rigourously justified.

It will be interesting to witness the impact of this sea-change on society and the economy. Don’t count on the Government to integrate their planning. We should all be acting to insulate ourselves from this impact.

Don’t rule out using breaststroke in alternation with crawl during the open water swim. Although it’s not as ‘fast’ I find it gives you a bit of a rest whilst still making progress.

Our laminate is certainly wearing better than my BILs engineered wood flooring over the same 5 year period. However, it is not faring too well against dropped/thrown toys. The chips are easily touched in with a repair kit though.

I did ‘project management’ for several years in a pharma R&D environment with no special qualification. In the latter stages of that role I did PRINCE2, essentially as we had unspent training budget and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

There’s foundation and practitioner level. IMO there is absolutely no point in just doing foundation, take a combined course that gets you the practioner qualification.

To be honest, I learnt very little from PRINCE2. However, I had been in a PM role in a mature organisation for a while so the PM role was well established. If I was new to the role or worked at a company trying to set up a PMO, it would have been more valuable.

EML and power steering fault will likely both fail MOT if they occur during the test.

Outside chance of an emissions test failure too, depending on the composition of the smoke…

I’d get proper Legal advice now regarding his potential arrest and the consequences. Under absolutely no circumstances would I recommend anyone allow themselves to be arrested without representation from the earliest opportunity, even if they are freely admitting their guilt.

I appreciate that walking in to the station with your Son and already having a Solicitor present somewhat undermines the shock tactic, but you’ve no idea how it plays out once he’s under arrest. He could easily incriminate himself or others with all sorts of unforseen consequences.

Forgot to add Honda. The dealership really tried to sell us a CR-V. The discounts were crazy, would have been down to Kia/Hyundia discounted price but we just couldn’t live with the weird dash/outdated infotainment system.

We’ve just ordered a replacement for our Mazda CX-5 and looked at pretty much every comparable SUV in the last couple of months.

    – The new Kuga is very nice, the interior is a big upgrade from the outgoing model. Uncertainty over lead times was a problem though.
    – The latest CX-5 is extremely well specced and probably the best of the bunch, but we fancied a change.
    – VW Tiguan is ok but the specs are ridiculous. No standard LED lights on lower spec and no manual gearbox on higher spec. Adding options makes the prices silly very quickly.
    – Really liked Peugeot 5008 but wasn’t sure about the quality and they were suprisingly expensive.
    – SEAT and Skoda are almost impossible to pick apart. There is almost no seperation between them at all. Makes you wonder how long VAG will continue with both brands. In the end Skoda could offer a top spec Kodiaq at a great price with a good lead time. Quality seems equivelant to our outgoing Mazda and no worse than Ford or SEAT.

We looked at both Kia and Hyundai. Although they were slightly cheaper than Ford, Mazda and Skoda, we felt the quality was significantly lower.

Don’t all the muscles you need for an activity develop as you repeatedly do said activity?

Probably, but that doesn’t mean they all develop at the same rate or to the optimum extent e.g. due to poor form or another confounding factor like being otherwise sedentry such as due to a desk based job.

Still have my Dreamcast and N64. Also have one of the modern SNES mini’s.

Goldeneye remains the one game to rule them all (or Mario Kart).

Shenmue on Dreamcast is still a beautiful thing.

Is sticking ‘insulation’ directly on to the metal roof a good idea? I may be completely wrong, but I wonder if this would just create a pockets of trapped moisture and ultimately create a bigger problem with mould.

I’d leave the roof uncovered and either put a seperate membrane up with a ventilated gap or just leave it, ventilate the shed more and stop storing wet kit.

This thread neatly highlights why driving in the snow is best avoided. Even if you think you know how to control your car on a slippy decent it seems highly likely the numpty behind you hasn’t got a clue!

US drug exports look small as the domestic market is gargantuan.

US Pharma companies who have an overseas market tend to set up an international manufacturer/outsource.

What the US don’t like about the UK is drug reimbursement prices. To satisfy those concerns, you need to dismantle the NHS.

Is the ‘box whiney in 6th, too?

£800 in labour for removing and refitting sounds steep. Does that include a new clutch?

I’d look for some local specialists and get some actual quotes. IF there’s a decent local specialist, they may even be able to rebuild your gearbox.

Cut out the pancakes at breakfast and 90% of the crisps and chocolate biscuits. Just have 3 eggs for breakfast (scrambled, boiled or poached). Stop weighing yourself. In 2-3 months you’ll be able to see the difference.

Oven chips with every evening meal probably isn’t the worst thing in the world as long as there’s some lean protein and veg on the plate too. But cupboards full of sugary snacks will always be your undoing. Just stop buying them. They are literally killing you.

If you plan proper meals and get it all in one shop, that’ll also cut out the ‘top-up’ shops where the extra cakey crap is sneaking in.

Even a conservative estimate suggests that cycling 150 miles per week is burning 7,500 calories.

What is your estimated total calorific intake per week, pre-diet? Surely masses of scope to make some simple swaps without being reduced to a liquid diet.

For reference, this is what we have and pay £65pcm for the privelage. That includes £23 of ‘discounts’ which makes it £2 cheaper than the new customer price for the same package. I think we only get this as I kicked up a huge stink when they changed our TV package and we lost the kids channels.

    Television:
    Maxit TV + Kids Pick

    Broadband:
    M100 Fibre Broadband

    Telephone:
    Talk More Evenings and Weekends
    Line Rental

Another question for frequent flyers, how much quicker do First and Business class seats in the flying bus of recycled air arrive at the destination?

Taking a 777 as an example, assuming an approach speed of 277 km/h and a distance of 50m between the front cabin and the furthest cheap seats, about 0.65 seconds.

We just give them what we eat (4 & 2). Sometimes they eat it, sometimes they don’t. Neither has shown any signs of malnutrition.

One thing I’ve noticed is that neither are big eaters at dinner time, no matter what. The youngest loves breakfast and will happily eat three courses.

Eldest tends to go big at lunchtime. In fact I think he would happily eat constantly from about 12:00 – 15:00 and forgo all other meal times.

Did you give the VIN number when you generated the RAC report?

When i’ve done a full history check in the past, it also gives details of other reigstration numbers associated with that VIN number.

Ultimately, the number of previous owners doesn’t really matter, but you do want to ensure there are no unexplained gaps in its history where it could have been imported, stolen/recovered, involved in a serious accident etc.

Get a Tri-Suit. Basically an all in one suitable for warm water swimming that also has a bit of padding for the bike but not too much that you can’t run comfortably.

IME, some people waste an inordinate amount of time in transition.

Brick sessions. Transitioning from a bike to running feels weird. Practice it. A lot.
