Pretty sure it will do – we’re looking at the minute and theres stuff 10/15k over the £500k mark which nobody is going to pay that for until March now as theres another £15k on top of that in stamp duty. As a buyer it should play in my favour as it basically gives me another £13k budget to play with if I need to.

Eh? From midnight last night, you’ll now only pay 5% stamp on the amount above £500k. So for a £515k house, you’ll pay £750 stamp duty.

I’m not sure where the 10% rate now kicks in – if it’s still @ £925k or that has been raised to £675k above the new threshold.

You don’t just ‘skip’ Phase I trials… Which vaccines/companies are you referring to?

and the steps being missed in some of the drugs being developed

What steps are being missed and for which drugs?

There is a basic threshold of preclinical safety and efficacy data required for single-dose, first in human trials and that threshold increases as you move to multiple doses, larger populations and from the healthy to patients.

Vaccines are somewhat unique in that they are generally administered to prevent disease, therefore the risk:benefit ratio differs. There is an extremely low threshold for adverse events in vaccines because of this.

Should a vaccine ever be found for COVID-19, and it gains approval by the MHRA, I have confidence that it will have demonstrated comparable safety to any other licensed vaccine here in the UK.

100mb VM here. Previously had various complaints about signal penetration round the house, so installed a WiFi range extender. This did boost the signal to all the house but also limited the speed to approx. 30mb (it created a seperate network, the main network was still fast). But, it didn’t fix the stability issues as it piggy backs the VM router WiFi – this became an actual problem once I started WFH full-time.

This was all solved with BT Home Wifi. The main node connects to the router by cable, so the flakey router signal is bypassed, three nodes (2 downstairs, 1 up) give complete coverage at 100mb throughout the house.

A lease (PCH) with a 35k annual mileage allowance will be very expensive.

If it’s allowance only and no option of a company car, used is defo the way to go. I’d be looking for something economical with very comfy seats, quiet cabin and radar cruise control.

It’s not doorbell dependant, it’s motion activated. It will notify first of motion and then if someone has actually rung the doorbell.

App connectivity is very much dependant on strength/stability of WiFi connection. We bought the range boosting Chime to ensure this works well.

We bought one in response to someone pinching our milk from the doorstep in the night.

It works wells for our property as the camera position being doorbell height and the location of our front door being central to the face of the property, means the camera covers the whole front of the house. There is no other direct access except from the front. The field of detection can be adjusted which stops it recording too much passing traffic.

The most ‘interesting’ thing it has captured is some random bloke walking right on to our drive having a nosey and walking off. Pre-lockdown, it’s practical use was as an intercom to tell delivery drivers where to safely leave parcels.

It’s fit and forget-ish (battery lasts about 3 months), app works pretty well and provides some sense of security (a sense which it appears we don’t particularly need).

Full-time WFH is not for everyone. I’ve previously turned down interviews because I would have to work from home (US based HQ’s).

I don’t really expect to return to the office until I can do so without the need for social distancing, PPE or whatever our company introduces. Realistically, that’s a very, very long time from now. I’m not relishing that prospect at all.

Global availability of the product will depend on several factors – approval of the vaccine at a national level (no such thing as ‘global’ approval), manufacturing capacity and any pre-existing rights/supply agreements that are tied to the funding/collaboration agreements signed during development.

It’s somewhat disheartening that there is still such a wideheld belief that the Pharma industry in general ‘withholds’ products from any market. Once a company has demonstrated a drug to be safe and effective, and they are able to manufacture it at a commercially viable scale, the process of approval and subsequent reimbursement is a long and complex one. Each country is going to need to come up with its own answer to this. For those countries who lack the infrastructure for effective regulation and the finances for state-sponsored heathcare, I assume we’ll see something similar to other mass-vaccination programs e.g. WHO buying and distributing.

It is true that there have been several high profile exceptions of price fixing, such as the case of the ‘Pharma Bro’ and also the Epanutin epilepsy drug. However, in both cases the responsible parties were rightly punished.

Pharmaceutical drug development and manufacturing is a private enterprise. This situation won’t change that. It also won’t suddenly negate the need for safe and effective products that are developed and manufactured to appropriate global cGxP.

This situation does create an interesting IP question. I’m not privy to the terms under which Pharma companies are accepting the vast sums of money being thrown around by Governments, but one thing innovative Pharma companies are exceptionally good at is protecting their IP, so we’ll just have to see how they are granting rights to the different stakeholders.

This one person I can meet, does it mean just that one person or can I meet other one persons on different days?

As many as you like. Line ’em up like speed dating and just move to the next one when Boris rings the bell.

C-19 (by my rough maths using the above data) has a death rate of around 15 per 100.000 cases

    Please show your working out…

Your link states 4.1m cases and 282k deaths. That’s coming out at about 6,800 deaths per 100,000 cases.

We know that cases reported doesn’t equal total actual cases. But your figure of mortality @ ~0.015% would mean the true case number is ~500 fold bigger than recorded.

Although other factors probably contribute as well, the main reason we have a flu season may simply be that the influenza virus is happier in cold, dry weather and thus better able to invade our bodies

It’s not coincidence that Flu spikes in winter.

Is there any good data on what is the most significant route of flu infection? Is it breathing in the flu virus or is it touching infected surfaces?

Of course, correlation with being indoors more makes perfect sense for the direct infection from aerosolised virus. But, my understanding was that the Winter spike in flu was actually due to the cold temperature and low humidity which means the virus survives for longer on contaminated surfaces. WRT to flu, basic hygiene can be used to offset some of the risk associated with being indoors for longer.

I’ve no idea how this applies to SARS-CoV-2. How is its viability affected by the temp and humidity?

If you put £11k in to a GT86 now with a view to selling in 6 months, expect to either wait a very long time for a buyer or take a bath on the price.

If you must buy for short-term, go under £5k and get something reasonably practical. This is the sort of money people actually have in cash and will spend on a major purchase through necessity. £10k is bank loan for many and people will be massively tightening their belts as the recession hits.

A GT86 is a niche market at the best of times.

If you want to keep longer term and have cash, I wouldn’t really worry too much.

WHO recommendation is minimum FFP2 for AGP.

    Tallpaul
    Free Member

FFP2 is the recommended standard for a clinical setting where the user will have close interaction with a patient (e.g. whilst intubating).

As you won’t easily (and morally should not be able to) procure a pukka 3M (etc) mask, the talk of members of the public obtaining and correctly fitting FFP3 masks is a bit daft.

Wear whatever face protection you have access to and can wear comfortably (no point wearing if it irritates and you’re constantly fiddling with it). In the end, we are going to have to behave responsibly as individuals and hope that every one we come in to close proximity with is doing the same.

Poorer people cant work from home!

Poorer people are generally in poorer health. Most commonly these ‘lifestyle’ conditions are pulmonary and cardiovascular in nature so are high risk factors for COVID-19.

So, truly sadly, it is of no suprise at all :(

What is the point of social distancing in a relatively enclosed area where children are to be present for 6-7 hours per day?

Isn’t social distancing mainly intended to be effective for periods of interaction <15 minutes?

A quick google suggests you can get 8gb of data for £8 pcm. Possibly better deals than that if you shop around.

The iPad will take a nano SIM. All SIM cards these days come in multi-size. You just snap off the pre-cut excess to get the size you need.

Nothing difficult about activating a data SIM. Pop it in, got to the web site of the provider and follow the activation instruction.

If mainly for home use, check network coverage. I’m in a bit of a black spot but have found EE to give the best service here (compared to O2/Tesco and Vodafone).

The major reason for the reduced hospital admissions is the cancellation of elective procedures and many forms of diagnostic testing. The latter also mean reduced intake as the conditions that require treatment aren’t being detected.

It’s also feared that people who need emergency treatment aren’t seeking help.

Lots of talk about when can we reopen shops and schools, but when will Hospitals be back to offering universal care to everyone who needs it?

We picked up one of these (50″) for £389 just before the lockdown:

    https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-50UM7500PLA

That was from Richer Sounds who price matched and beat the JL price at the time by a tenner.

Fab telly, really nice upgrade in quality from our old Samsung. The 4k stuff on Disney+ looks stunning.

EDIT: the in-built speaker sound in suprisingly OK. But, we routinely use a Q Accoustics M2 soundbar.

First time using the claybar – any tips

Cut the clay in to several pieces so you can throw one away when you inevitably drop it on the drive half way through.

Use loads and loads of lube and pass in straight lines with light pressure.

Someone local was selling a used but complete Porsche 42056 kit for £75 last year. Guess I should have stumped up but I’d just bought the Technics Porsche when Argos were clearing them out for £65.

Sometime before that, Argos were also doing 42056 half-price but that was still £130. If the kit had been purple (i.e. Porsche Ultra-Violet), maybe I’d have gone for it.

There’s a whole thread on Dyson. Anyway, TPP designed it, Dyson are building it and it utilises their motor tech. TPP know a thing or two about designing medical devices.

Similarly, GSK will not be working alone.

The Government have clarified that only one parent/carer needs to be a key worker. There was a lot of confusion about this yesterday but the policy is now published.

My Wife is a Key Worker. It’s a moral dilemma whether to use it or not. The DfE advice is very heavily pressing the point that using this option should be only in essential cases.

We are waiting to hear if the School & Nursery that our Children attend will be able to offer places (i.e. have sufficient demand and ability to staff) before making a final decision.
