Avoid French stuff. The engines are usually ok, but the electrics, dear god the electrics!

    It’s not 1992 anymore.

I doubt it will have much immediate impact. Longer term, it depends…

If the cost of new cars goes up due to import tariffs, this could make the used market stronger.

If the economy implodes, people may well stop making large purchases causing the used car market to slow.

Right now the used car market is pretty much a buyers market. If you go shopping at dealerships in the second half of September their will be plenty of sales staff getting twitchy about their quarterly sales bonus and desperate to make sales…

Don’t cut out carbs, just get them from ‘green’ vegetables rather than from bread, pasta, spuds etc.

Find an outlet Mall. I stocked up on jeans and trainers earlier this year. Savings were somewhat offset by the designer handbag my Wife requested, but at least it was about 35% of the RRP in the UK.

Sadly, phoning and throwing my toys out of the pram didn’t work.

Basically, I **** up and accepted an ‘upgrade’ without properly checking the channels and it transpires we’ve lost one of my sons favourite kids channels. I phoned to cancel the upgrade and was told my old package was no longer an option on their system and the kids telly is another fiver a month!!! No further discounts available, like it or lump it.

There’s no harm in contacting them. They will either have places available or not and advise you accordingly.

The TSI unit on both those cars is belt driven. Therefore, doesn’t have the same issues as the previous generation of engines that suffered from chain stretch etc.

So has that been causing bore wash? Have they inspected the piston, rings and bore on that injector for damage??

Any puffs of white smoke from the exhaust?

Is there really a view that the general public care more about Brexit than education, healthcare, social welfare, security etc?

As ridiculous as it’s got, I really don’t believe that a voting majority would elect sufficient Brexit Party MP’s to form a government. If Farage did have a successful GE, this would most likely precipitate a hung parliament. Who would form a coalition with him? Can anyone honestly imagine a Con-Brex coalition with Farage as PM?

We went a couple of weeks ago. The Castle Hotel is BRILLIANT! Best lift ever. Breakfast was decent. The food in the all you can eat Restaurant is tat and seemingly very expensive. But, after a day in the park we didn’t care and inhaled several plate fulls each – on the basis of volume consumed and free drink refills, the value looked a little better.

The Park was very quiet, the longest queue was 15 minutes but we walked straight on to most things.

Use https://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ to check if the vehicle is insured (it won’t tell you with who, though).

You could try inspecting the spark plugs just to look for any evidence of an ignition problem on one of the cylinders – could point to a dodgy plug, coil or wiring.

Best bet is registering on a dedicated forum for that Marque and searching for other owners having similar issues.

In the end, we reasoned that it was better to get them to bed earlier so we had more of an evening without them! The consequence of this is that we have to get up early. Sometimes very early.

What does your contract say about breach/termination?

    Realistically though, what TJ said.

If VED expires and the vehicle is not SORN, you are automatically issued with an £80 fine which reduces to £40 if paid within 28 days. However, it’s not clear to me exactly how ‘automatic’ this is.

If you are caught by ANPR driving without VED or under a SORN, you could face prosecution unless you can demonstrate you were driving to a pre-booked MOT appointment.

Marvelous. Looks like i’ll wait for the day when/if the permission is revoked and then extend my drive!

    Tallpaul

    This seems odd:

“Our deeds contain an easement which allows access to our property and also states that access to other properties must not be obstructed.”

Why would you need a specific clause stating that access mustn’t be obstructed, the way you’ve written this implies that not causing an obstruction (by parking elsewhere) is fine.

I think it’s a sensible clause in the covenant. It’s basically inserting Wheatons Law and predicting the most common dispute which will arise. The private road and the houses are only 25 years old, so the perils of residential parking would have been well known when it was written.

I don’t think the wording so much implies parking is permitted (as legally the land is privately owned and parking is not an affirmative covenant in the deed). However, I and all the other residents definitely infer that the parking is OK – this is first time I’ve heard the landowner raise the topic of parking ‘permission’.

So… If I do go and extend my driveway, do I need to get permission from the owner of the road to directly access the widened section?

Does the covenant preventing neighbours blocking access automatically apply to the new drive?

Fortunately, there’s no kerb so I wouldn’t have to touch the fabric of the road to have the drive laid.

Personally I’d build a legitimate space on your land, problem solved.

When we bought the house, this was what I’d planned to do. We’d previously lived in a road where parking was a bit of a nightmare but we had two off-road spaces.

However, it became clear that parking arrangements were a bit more sensible here and parking in front of the house had never been an issue (until now).

You don’t have a right to park anywhere, not even on public roads. Rather, you have places where you cannot park, eg on double yellows. You can generally park on roads by dint of the fact that there’s nothing in place to say you cannot do so.

Basically, this was my thinking. The neighbour could decree that nobody park on their road. But, if they did so, I wondered if it would be a legitimate demand and how they could actually enforce it.

    Tallpaul

Theres just a presumption and a courtesy that people would generally prefer to park in the space nearest to their house.

This is certainly the case for the ‘space’ we use. We have the luxury of being the only property in the road who can do so. None of the other ‘spaces’ available on the road could reasonably be considered as directly related to any specific property (it a bit of an odd layout but ours is basically the only house that fronts on to the road).

As our easement provides unrestricted access to the property and we have a decent area of lawn, we could widen our driveway to accommodate a second car. This would have two benefits; firstly it gets our second car off the road and secondly it effectively prevents that section of road being used by any other residents for parking as it would then be required for access.

You can also ‘buy out’ of a PCH agreement. With Volkswagen Financial services, it will cost you 55% of the outstanding payments.

PCP, PCH, HP, Personal Loan, Cash – all different ways of funding a new car. All have pros and cons, work out the cost and look at your personal circumstances. As above, getting out of PCP or PCH agreement before the term can be expensive!

G12 is really old spec. What year is your A6? Sure it didn’t say G12+ or G12++?

G40 is equivalent to G12++ (i think). They should all be mixable, but personally I’d only top up with the same as is in there. Is there an Audi dealer nearby?

I’m 39. I can’t keep my eyes open after about 2130. Stayed up ‘til 2300 on Saturday and am feeling the deficit in sleep.

More seriously, could your symptoms be akin to post-viral fatigue/a physiological hangover from long-term injury?

How long were you injured for and how fit were you beforehand? How do rate your fitness now? Has the injury caused you to stop doing anything you previously enjoyed? Did you feel low whilst recovering?

Sounds like you get plenty of sleep, do you have a balanced diet, drink plenty of water?

This is basically me. There’s nothing wrong with me, I’m just getting old.

In my opinion and experience you should be on 1.5 -2 time your day rate when away plus expenses if PAYE.

What industry is this? I work in Pharma and this is not typical at all. Expectation to travel is part of JD and salary reflects this (to some extent). Occasional weekend travel is unavoidable, the only compensation for this is time in lieu.

We bought this one a couple of years ago for £120 in a black friday sale. It makes perfectly good coffee and the milk frother-thingy works well. It’s a bit of a pain to clean all the fiddly little tubes and connectors though.

They can do it in a different session apparently.

    Don’t put it past them

As the current session runs until the Summer. That means September at the earliest.

We now need a GE or new ref to get an A50 extension or it’s no deal.

a business suit would be appropriate for first class business flight

Yes, possibly on the Hindenburg c1936. Back in the 21st century, first and business class are full of right scruffs!

Regarding the young lady – absolutely nothing indecent/offensive about her outfit. Agreed she’d definitely be too cold at some point though.

I’m ashamed to admit I’m enjoying ‘How To Get Away With Murder’

It’s ostensibly a series aimed at teenagers, despite all the teenagers being played by actors in their 30’s. Lead character is a decent actor. Everytime I think I’ve had enough they thrown in a plot twist intriguing enough to make me watch the next couple of episodes.

Have you thought about getting a custom exhaust place to fabricate you something?

    For example:

    What do you think now?

I think that a single sample indicates the presence of animal shit in their water.

Without proceeding with a period of regular sampling, that will not really provide a prediction of future shit content, I’d install some form of treatment.

    Tallpaul

Just be aware that you only have the results of a sample. The quality of the water source will vary over time depending on multiple factors. Without regular monitoring, you’ve no idea if those results represent a good or bad day. Adding a water treatment system will deliver a consistent quality.

The test results indicate your drinking water is contaminated with animal faeces. That’s far from ideal.

Oh, and it might be more cost effective for a mobile auto-electrician to look at it, rather than a garage mechanic.

The battery powers the starter motor, not vice versa.

    Is the battery now dead?

Off the top of my head: duff battery, dodgy alternator, corroded wiring, parasitic drain from somewhere.

Is a ’97 Civic basically a Rover 45? No idea on how much is shared between them, but worth looking on Rover forums too??

Stop trying to lose weight. Sign up to the Joe Wicks 90 day plan, rewire your attitude to food/weight loss and marvel at how buff you look at the end of it. Once you’ve stopped being weight and food obsessed, go back to riding your bicycle and just eating a balanced diet at regular meal times.

Who are more likely to yield at this stage?

As so astutely observed, Brexiteers relish No Deal. It’s the purest form of Brexit.

Remainers who understand and rightly fear no deal. How, in good conscience can they allow it?

Remain is still on the table, but can anyone please present a realistic scenario that results in it happening between now and Brexit day (or the EU Parliamentary elections, as it seems a small A50 extension is inevitable)?

    Tallpaul
    Free Member

It seems to me that Labours only tangeable policy on Brexit is ‘avoid no deal’.

I’d love to know how anything other than TM’s deal can avoid that.

Oh, and be realistic. Remainers acuse Leavers or wanting Unicorns. Tell me how wishing for another Referendum or revocation of A50 is anything different at this stage in the process?

Please try to remember what No Deal actually means.
