It's all fine. There's a few dodgy bits in terms of rock drops etc and the final descent back down to the car park can be a bit hairy but fine if you take care. My old man does it regularly and he's not a huge biker and is 66 and my sister of 34 who definately isn't a rider does it with him from time to time with no problems.

My brother in law had a grand put into his sons savings account. He didn't ever mention it and it's still there now. He paid in a £100 and thinks the clerk put an extra 0 on. Wouldn't go spending that money too quickly though if I were you!!

Not had anything I would classify as serious but have taken a pedal down my shin taking off all the skin and I'm pretty sure I could see bone. Did it while scouting out a race course the night before. Second one is buggering a nerve in my shoulder causing me to have a winged scapula, that was 5 years ago and still gives me gyp

Gutted I didn't get out on the end. Celebrated my birthday last night and was only fit for sleeping the rest of the day. Got a 6mile run in around Winchester though

Woody, I take your point but what if verses had a delicate heart problem.. has been known to happen that people have died from the lightest touch! They may be aware of him but if verses wants to make a formal complaint then they have to act upon it.

You can get them tattooed on nowadays. What's the world coming too?! Not got crazy eyebrows or ear hair yet but I'm slightly concerned that I'm not yet 30 and have a forest growing out of my nose!!

My mrs plucks my mono brow for me. How she can do her whole eyebrows I do not know

They should have called the police in that instance otherwise they're an accessory aren't they? Bad form if you ask me. If that had happened to me I would have kicked off and probably called the police there and then reporting both the man and the shop. At least that way you have a clear time of day so that cctv footage can be seen.

I'm with ahwiles on this one. My old man has the spesh and it is a nice bike to ride, the boardman isn't as nice but for the money has better equipment.

It also depends on what you want ie a decent frame with components that will get you by that you can then upgrade for better quality stuff or go for good quality parts and a mediochre frame

Good stuff Skyline – will pop in and say hello on the occasions when I'm there. Used to live in Rhydcymerau which is the other side of Brechfa forest but moved away after uni and never moved back! Miss that place, if it wasn't for employment I would move back there. Some of the best natural riding around IMO, shame most of the tracks I started are now overgrown due to the use of the man made stuff… but they were started 15 years ago…

Brechfa and Llansawel are both good. Can't remember the name of the couple down there that are meant to be awesome for looking after bikers.

The only thing I worry about is hearing someone asking if they can cone past. The volume on mine is set quite low anyway in case of cars etc while out riding. Not ridden in an event with earphones as I quite like the social aspect of it… Unless you have a bunch of loner wannabes out on the trails

If you're spending more than you're earning why have you not spoken to a director yet? I think you should discuss the matter with him. If you're a valuable asset then he would look at it as an investmemtn to keep you on. If you're rubbish… then best improve performance before seeing him.

It's an awkward scenario at the moment. I'm in the construction industry whihc is going to be hard hit over the next year so I'm facing the same dilemma although I'm relatively comfortable here I just want more money and a change of scene

just don't get him drunk while riding!

40mpg – is that GA cycles any good? Just realsied it's only up the road from the mayflower theatre or is Hargroves the shop of choice in that area?

My brother in law gets trade price bikes, kit, accessories and race entries. I only ever got race entries and energy food but I was never that good IMO.

Swinley is quite fun if you're going for part of the day. It can become a bit tedious though. If someone is willing to show yoyu around you will enjoy it more

Ackie… I know what you mean as I'm the same but I've got a medium with decent layback on my post and it's a lovely little steed.

The white and red combo is soooo much better. If you're at work then today is going to be the longest day in the world for you!!!

I enjoyed the snow but it made biking a nightmare. OIther than that I don't mind it at all. Clears the road of people who shouldn't be allowed to drive anyway

My current one although although has been updated since the picture was taken

    Old ones:

Not sure where the pics for the other bikes are. I miss uni when I had spare money to buy bikes…

Could be worse, you could be my colleague who ordered one… from Hawaii so he could have it pretty much immediately. I think, but not sure, that it was £600

Tron – you would be surprised. In my job we have to work with the police and the stories they come back with make me think why do I even bother. One of the older guys showed me how to get through an expensive d-lock using a bic pen. Shocking

You can't leave it like that and where's the picture… or do we not want to know?!

You should be looking to replace it annually on your bike (and car) anyway due to water absorption

I bet car mechanics think christmas comes early every time you go to see them… unless you're doing it yourself.

Thisisnotaspoon – I agree with you and have used 4 and 5.1 but you have to be careful as some manufacturers state that a certain one has to be used so as not to invalidate the warranty.

Another cheap option whihc I have is a shed alarm from B&Q, only cost a tenner and you fix it it the garage door and frame. You need a key to turn it off and on. Pretty good and very loud. Think someon on here did a system using a rape alarm too at one point

Garage doors are rubbish and pretty much all can be lifted. We're currently doing schemes with ground anchors but they need to be cast in. I think the resin embedded ones are ok but I would be just as happy with the anchors that have got fixings you can't see after installation. It's all in the lock if you ask me. Look for gold 'sold secure' stuff

Went out for the first time in 2 month today. Got 30miles done around Kingley Vale, Hampshire. Was expecting to come back broken as I've had one issue after another recently but I feel surprisingly good.

Was a little annoyed with myself though as I had left the bike for two months in the shed without cleaniing it properly and wet brake dust had taken it's toll on my caliper so I had to rebuild the rear before the ride and thought I got away with just cleaning the front. Was riding down to a little village and something happened to the front wheel and it locked and sent me ball hugging my stem!!

I lean back over the back wheel so that my centre of gravity is moved backwards and the front wheel can move vertically and match the gradient of the landing.

You don;t need to be able to manual as you don't need to get the wheel up that high. If you do when youy lanmd a big one the bars will throw themselves forward and you may well go over them

I hear shutting your eyes helps too.

I was looking the other day at some components my brother in law used to use – KCNC. Think they're jockey wheels are uber lights and a little pimping
