Hohum – I realised pretty quickly that I wouldn’t need to shave against the grain as I was getting a really close shave anyway. The only difficulty I really have is maintaining the correct angle on my neck especially where I have a scar. With a larger head restricting visibility I’m not quite used to being thy accurate with it but that will come with time.

Kevevs – I too was like you and thought what are these people on about. Shaving has always been a chore and always will be but because I was gifted with the sensitive skin if I shave every day or sometimes every other day it looks like I’ve been making out with a bear! In my job I’m off seeing clients every few days or every day in some cases and I don’t like looking scruffy but I’ve had no choice other than to go on with a face full of stubble as the alternative is too painful. I’ve been able to shave every day since having this new razor and the only facial issue I have is I have cut the scar on my neck. It’s Saturday now… And I probably won’t shave again until Sunday evening now

    Ps I’m 28

Looks very nice. I saw one of those on eBay but didn’t say superspeed so didn’t bother. Reading through other peoples comments I thought only the Superspeeds from a certain era were worth chasing but I’ve seen a few very similar to yours but in a chrome (dull) finish perhaps pewter colour.

Got my sample pack through today, good old Connaught. Didn’t realise that some shops refurb old razors and sell them on too.

It’s wierd that for the first time in years I’m actually looking forward to the next shave!

All I can say is minimum for compliance with Part L and N will be fine but also get some that are SBD compliant. Check with your home insurance too with what they ask for. Most importantly though make sure they’re installed correctly

Second shave tonight. Got a little better with the razor but still have difficulty on the right side of my neck and around a scar. Think I may need to get a styptic pencil too…

I love mine. Would make the same comments as rich but would add that mine are water resistant. No budget for waterproof boots but these ate a worthy substitute

Firstly are they new GHDs or the old ones? Pretty sure the wiring has a life time warranty as my mrs keeps banging on about her old ones being outside of warranty and she would have to pay for things to be fixed in which case I would just buy her some new dual voltage ones for Chrimbo

Just checked GHD website and they say only 24months for the mark fours and 12months for earlier models

I haven’t used soap for years but the last time I did I used Crabtree and Evelyn soap and like you it was disappearing too quickly but I also had issues with it drying my cheeks out causing some irritation. My grandfather told me I should be wetting the brush for 30s in warm water then giving it a light squeeze between my fingers and then putting it into the soap… was still trial and error for me though but could have been down to the type of soap used. I tend to use a shave gel or Ingram for ease and consistency nowadays.

Only hard my first safety razor shave last night so can’t comment on blades although I used the Derby blade and found it pretty good. Ordered a sample pack from Connaught earlier so will see how well I fair with other makes [Treet, Trig, Astra, Feather etc]

This evening has been a definite improvement over the working day. Cooked another tasty alcohol based meal and had a succesful first DE shave!

Always sworn by a Gillette Fusion and Boots no. 7 anti friction shave gel [brush applied] comba as it’s given the closest and least irritative shave. I have just had my closest shave ever, even on my neck around my voice box [known as Everest by the mrs] and not got any razor burn at all despite having to do some patches a couple of times ie chin. Prep’ed as usual and was really surprised at how easy and smooth the razor is on my skin. Only issue I ‘had’ was a small spot on my neck… problem solved now.

Really cuffed, only spent £15 on the EJ from Amazon and it came with 5 Derby Extra blades. Will still try that sample selection from eBay in any case to see what else works or doens’t work.

I used to use Nivea afterhsave balm but founjd it a bit greasy and used to have spots. Can’t remember what I used previously but I know use Boots No. 7 After Shave recovery balm. Slightly more expensive but definately worth it if you ahve really sensitive skin like me.

PS was it you who outbid me on some of those vintage superspeeds then?! I lost out on two decent looking ones.

Thanks for all the advise just wish I had known about these razors sooner

Fair enough then and fair play with putting up with it. Mine has taken ages to heal and have really regretted re-enacting laddish behaviour from uni. Wouldn’t wish a perforated ear drum on anybody

You and me both. Just got back from holiday and even having been reading mags and checking out all the bike shops in Italy I still have no enthusiasm to ride. I’m goingto try and get out tomorrow or Monday even if it will feel more like a chore

I loved mine last year but this year have a fire xc pro and that has done surprisingly well. Only use one on the front as found the rear a bit sketchy and had trouble getting to grips with it

As a cat owner I would be most grateful if someone went to the trouble of removing a tick off of one of mine but I would be devestated if someone was feeding mine as there could be a risk he would swap homes permanently

Tinnitus will disappear without you noticing but be careful exposing your ear to the wind so use the same ear plug you would use on the shower or cotton wool. I was fine on the bike but felt a little unbalanced.

Bruneep – it’s still perforated?! Why have you not had an operation, if its perforated you’re open to inner ear infections

I’m not aware of anything of that sort for ARB recognition. I looked into the options myself and have started on the CIAT route instead ( POP record and interview) wanted something similar for architecture as I have already done four years

Ratadog – probably the most useful bit on this subject I’ve read in the 6 years of using thyroxine. I’ve had a complete thyroidectomy so I’m reliant on my levothyroxine which is high enough to supress the TSH but I don’t feel ‘normal’. I’m on 200mg a day at the moment but that went up a few months ago from 175 mg when my TSH went above the safe level. That has been the only marker or guidance I’ve been given by my doctors so far but they don’t feel I need to up my dosage as my TSH levels are supersed.which is their only concern. I suppose the only way to find out what level of levothryroxine you’re comfortable with from this point is by trial and error or is there sone other way?

    Apologise
C-G for high jacking your thread but found other peoples opinions valuable and until now didn’t know of anyone else on thyroxine!!

Very individual drug, repeated thyroid function tests can be required to get the dosage correct, if fatigue symptoms persisting then likely to be under dosed, but equally overdosage carried some nasty side-effects so increases in dosage should be carefully monitorted.

as a follow in from that heart palpitations are an indicator that your dosage may be too high. If you experience thuis frequently then seek urgent attention as it could cause long term damage.

I’m finding that my TSH levels fluctuate and my medication just gets pushed up but I’m sure there are days to day foods that I eat that have an affect on how well it performs.

    Taff

I might try an iron supplement then and see if that has any affect. Had a quick check on the internet and it doesn’t seem to have an affect on thyroxine itself.

    Taff

How do you inprove your iron levels then? is it by a managed diet or supplements?

    Taff

that’s what I normally find at every appointment is that they concentrate on ensuring that my TSH and thyroglobulin levels are correct but never mention the other levels.

CG – I presume you’re on a repeat prescription for life with the levothyroxine? Have you tried experimenting with increasing doses [don’t do it if you’re within a 4-6weeks of a blood test? I’ve tried upping mine to see if there’s a difference but haven’t really had a conclusive affect to be able to tell the doctor that these levels would make me feel better but it might help you?

    Taff

No I haven’t only my oncologist but it may be worth asking for anothers opinion on the side affect etc.

I’m going to raise the same issue at my next appointment. Apparently I stopped mid sentence the other day and didn’t even realise it! Have you been told what the right T3 and T4 levels are as I have no idea and my doctor wasn’t sure either but just said my TSH levels were right and that all other counts were about right.
