I’ve been looking at going ss road bike for a while but am tempted by a ss 29er. Have you seen the on-one rolling chassis? Look good value to me.

Lovely pics. Still not got out on my snow ride and it’s not looking likely that I’m going to get a chance until boxing day morning and Hampshire is losing it’s snow quite quickly now. Cranham’s not far so I should come up there I reckon 😉

Boots are doing the massive soap and glory gift set for £25 instead of £60. All the girls I know have gone mental for this stuff in the past.

I’m obviously missing something on this forum, heard about people being banned but never really know what the cause is. Don’t really like seeing people go expecially those who have been extermely helpful to me in the past.

    All the best to you.

My mrs knows, I bought her a £500 Scott a few years ago as I didn’t like the cheaper alternatives. She knows my current ones would be about 2k new and is fine with that but she does wish I would sell old frames and parts that decorate my shed as there’s money that can be put towards a credit card bill or a holiday or her…

Sister and bro-in-law live in LLangybi which is just down the road and say the roads are fine although care still needs to be taken. He’s been out on his road bike most days so can’t be that bad!

There will be a time when I will stop insurance policies as it will get too much as they get older. My mum has had some very big bills for her cat, dogs are different [more expensive], my friend had bills for 8.5k over two years.

I may never encounter bills of that nature but you just don’t know but I would rather be safe rather than sorry.

Disturbingly enough, I pay more per month on the insurance for 1 moggy than for my own life…

there’s no fear of that for me… I’m still at £5k a year my mortgage / life protection insurance.

I’ve got some that is meant to be fine down to -15. The bottle never freezes but the solution left in the washer pipes still does. It doesn’t freeze when it hits a very cold Windscreen though

The water pipes between my house and the water main under the road have frozen solid so i’m on bottled water all over Christmas.

Would you get a rebate for that do you think as you can’t actually use water and are having to buy it in?

I’ve known of friends and families with really high vet bills that have needed loans etc to pay them off so won’t take the non-insured route.

Just looked at M&S, will have to ring them tomorrow as can’t to multiple pets online but the single policy is still cheaper than my current one.

Don’t find Tesco bad, I was recommended them as others have had good experiences with them. Who would your partner recommend then?

I’ve always loved the 300SL… never knew about the SLS. I’m just off to sell a kidney and perhaps even a lung.

A few of my friends have said about their soils freezing up, not had it myself luckily. My Dad had a condensate drain from his boiler freeze so I ripped out what the plumper had put in and replace it with a fall and insulated it. Good luck trying to sort it

Quoted 150 for a powerflush from a mate and 350 from BG – a powerflush is probably needed if you want the boiler warranty. Don’t forget just under a £100 for Building Control notice charges. The charges sound about right but they can be plus or minus 200 depending on the person. The Valliant unit is a pretty good one, and we tend to see more of those going into our units than other makes.

Got a 2mm protrusion but that’s including the point. That’ll probably wear to 1mm after first ride I reckon. Used serrated edge woodscrews having seen a few how-to’s but think that broad heads would be better in terms of pressure distribution. Lining the tyre with inner tube rather than just taping the tyre.

XT rear mech and a new chain [depending when the last one was changed]

I’m just trying to make my first set of spikes. Only using 10mm screws so got a 2mm projection, if they’re rubbish ten I can take them out and try a 12mm instead. Only doing one tyre too (spesh enduro) and depending how this goes I’ve got a bonty acx waiting too.

Quite interested in the chains although not really got much in the way of snow left here. Have you guys got any photos you can put up of some successful examples?

Do you find it uses less petrol to leave the car engine running overnight too?

you don’t really have to heat the thermal envelope of a car to keep you warm though do you. If I did keep it on all night then my road might thaw out a little quicker

My gas boiler is set for 19 degrees but is now on for most of the day. last year I had it set to come on and heat the house from 5.30 until 10.30 weekdays and then most of the day on weekends. this year I have had the heating on low from 6.30 to 10 and the house is toasty and I have the same kW/h usage I had last year. My Dad has done the same with oil and he thinks he’s made a saving.

I don’t want my house boiling but I don’t want it too cold. I like chilling in the house wearign shorts and a tshirt but I’m equally happy in my chav pants and a fleecey hoody.

Never quite got why you can’t insulate over them as the mineral wool insulation is used as a fire barrier anyway in construction and it doesn’t conduct either. That said you can get proper hoods for a fortune. I’ve got plasterboard over the joists where mine are and then laid insulation over it all.

Two bags of porridge [oats so simple I think] does me well. Failing that, four weetabix with the sides of the bowl filled with muesli and some dried fruit sprinkled fills you up too although makes you pretty regular too!

the snow chains ont he non drive wheel and the you-tube clip have just had the office in stitches. Saw a fair few beemers and mercs parked up in jaunty angles. One beemer had part parked in a layby and part parked in the road…. he was a wing mirror lighter in no time.

I’ll be doing general driving. Driven in worse than this and am pretty well prepared for the elements. It’s the people who haven’t got a clue how to drive in the snow who should stay at home. Granted like you I’m not going to be doing the 300mile trip to see the family back in Wales but did 130 over the weekend seeing friends without any issues at all.

The snow isn’t too much my dirving force for not really wantimng to move though… it’s Christmas so I want to relax at home and get some riding in.

Bit cross at one of my colleagues who has left Pompey to travel up past Brum for a Christams lunch! Think that’s a bit foolhardy.

PS. If the mrs wants to go shopping… ‘too dangerous love’

I was really cross with colleagues a few weeks ago when we had 5-6inches and most Of the others had 1-2inches and clear main roads but didn’t want to risk it. There is something in employment law about inclement weather and getting to work safely etc but it also says you can forfeit your pay for not be able to turn up too. the news reports don’t help when they say don’t make unnecessary journeys but I’m pretty sure working is a necessity.

Buy that bike and take a summers day off

Not a dent but some dull woman decide to run out in front of me on a pedestrian crossing which had been cleared. Unfortunately all the compacted show on the corner wasn’t so when I’m a few metres away from her and have to brake I realise I either have to hit her or put it in the hedge. Luckily no damage but I was still fuming
