I’m so glad I’m not the o ly one who thinks of films like that when riding. Not thought of dog soldiers before but Blair Witch in Cann Woods was a constant given the weird teepees people were building there.

How can teaching him the dos and fonts make you a bad dad?!?! He is 10 and taking an interest in the outdoors rather than sitting inside on a PS3 etc! I think you’ve done well.
As for age I had my first knife at 8 and my grandfather roughy me to make whistles etc bu I wasn’t allowed a Swiss army knife until I was 10 while one of my mates had a flick knife!!
Fair play to you I say

FYI went out for tue first night ride tonight with the torch. Used it on low on my helmet but kept the hot spot so that it was only 4-5 bike lengths in front of me. No issues with cars. Was pleasantly surprised how good it was on the low setting. Its strong but the hotspur is quite narrow but does give off a generous halo which on medium or full would make it adequate for road riding. Would be awesome I. Conjunction with a bar mounted flood so I will see what it’s Luke when / if my DE package arrives.

Moved over from my last company under TUPE with two others and all was fine. We had new contracts drawn up shortly after buyt they couldn’t go worse than what we had previously. I’ve got more holiday and pay, if I want to leave I only have to give one month notice instead of 2 etc etc. Depends if you like the way the new company runs it’s business but you should not be worse off in any circumstances.

My brother in law has kind of done this on his cross bike but had some spare shifters. He quite like it as he rides a 29er too

If it’s all road, then you’ll be wanting a road bike!

You might want to go for a flat bar road bike

I have a road bike and a hybrid and don’t see anything wrong with the hybrid…. it’s also far sale 🙄

I woulld also advise on some decent all round tyres rather than slick 23s

Depends if you are consider skilled or not. I looked at it a few years ago so can’t quite remember the deal.

What were the screw specs people used? I think I used turbo-drives from B&Q at £3 for about 100 but they were slightly too short I reckon after wearing

Try the search from about jab/feb time. There was a good thread on it. Got mine ready although the should’ve gone for a longer screws.

I know what you mean. I will take a SDW booklet. Not got a gps. Will be doing it on the hardtail! Won’t be seeing me on a cx bike in this lifetime!

    have to remember this thread.

Yes that’s what I keep saying about the DIY head torch mount thread… Remembering is one thing, finding it again is another!

Is it all fully signposted. I have a SDW book from a colleague and it looks as though there are some random routes in some areas? I’ll be taking a map/book just in case but would like to know if I can just ride pretty much most of it without pulling the map out every 10mins

you also need to make sure that your UK-US adapter is fused. Most of them coming from HK aren’t.

Jamie – mine finally says Guang Zhou mailing centre too now.

This is my torch, I find it quite powerful and it’s stated to be about 300lumens. The photo doesn’t really do it justive if I’m honest

    Jamie’s 30 minute meals

Quality recipes, but many of them demand a lot of tidying/washing up = 30 mins easily become 60+. [/quote]

Got the curry dish to 30mins!!! I have a dishwasher so not so worried nowadays!

Jamie’s 30 minute meals – a lot of the stuff in there is pretty good for you according to the mrs. I love pretty much everything in it which is rare!

I have just bought THIS and even in daylight is it pretty bright but tonight will be the deciding factor. I will be using it in conjunction with the light that Jamie linked you to for £28. All in all I have spent £60 on lighting that should be all I need for off road riding so you should have no issues with it on the road for commuting.

The magicshine is the old P7 led so Smudges XMLT6 or the LJ one is much better. I can’t advise on which is the better battery pack but they seem the same with the exception that LJ’s has a higher voltage which may last less time [am I right in saying that] in comparison with Smudges but then that’s also quite a saving over the latter too

Fontmoss – have search for DE razor and do it from a year ago. There was a topic about 30pages long. Essentially they’re closer for me and a he’ll of a lot cheaper (£10 for a years worth of blades)

yeah that’s fine. Offer is there if you [and ton] need it.

How is a slant blade differ from a usual DE razor? I see it’s more suitable to sensitive skin. My favourite is my Edwin Jagger with a feather or derby and that suits my sensitive skin.

Good to hear you didn’t nick yourself… it’s normally the second or third shave that you get cstart getting confident and then the littel trickly of blood happens..!

I’m not as bad as the mrs but I do hoard things. I won’t throw anything away until if it’s got useful elements ie stripping nuts and bolts etc. The mrs has a collection of boxes, ‘good quality’ bags [superdry type things] and general tat without going inti shoes and hangbags which have past their use by dates!

Here only now as the crowd seem such a good bunch. Used to be a member of pug306.net and then 206info.co.uk and also southerndownhill but no longer bother with them as I have other things to do… like annoy people on here asking about DX magicshine lights.. then which helmet light.. then ask every question humanly possible about them…

Contemplating having a go at this before the winter is here but as I live near Queen Liz I’m thinkin about not going the rest of the way to Winchester due to logistics. Takes 2hours to train from Havant to Eastbourne and costs £15… also costs £15 to travel an hour from Winchester to Havant… Will feel a bit robbed at that so is leaving it at QE a bit gash? Potentially could get the mrs to pick me up if the needs arose but think that may be more hassle than the ride itself!

Got a double mecause I very rarely ever used a granny on my MTB. Do have a few hills that prove a little testing but it’s fine. As said above it does depend on your fitness but I don’t think bike weight really matters unless you’re loading it up for touring etc

I have a 12 speed and can do some of the big hills in Hampshire but Welsh hills are twice as hard! I can do 100miles here but struggle doing 50m back home. Just looked at how expensive it is!!! You can do 3 sportives for that price

I had this with our network. Will need to ask the guy in work how we sorted it. We still have issues with the films hough so have to put them onto our local pcs

I like the lapierre followed by the 5. I don’t like the spesh and the others ive not ridden. As mentioned above the Canyon bikes are getting good reviews and I’m hoping to try a nerve out in a few weeks. Yeti 575 does get very good reviews from mags and riders. Personally I would try the lapierre and yeti route as I think that orange is very over priced for what you get

Have you tried any of them? Disregarding specs which do you like?

Steve me e periences are very similar although I choose to ride the road alone. I find other roadies don’t talk to you and barely day hello until I do my best DomJolly impression. Done a couple of sportives though and I have spoken to a fair few people on route but a sportive is mainly quite chilled with the exception of a few people who take it seriously and don’t talk. This may be because I have an ancient road bike and keep up with them on their their expensive machine or maybe they Prefer being alone. Don’t see them talking to each other much either. On the MTB it has always been social for me waiting for the slowest person, taking photos of someone crashing, just having a laugh. Thats what got me not mtbing in the first place and why after 1.5yrs of no riding buddies I seem to spend more time on the road. Having said that I enjoy riding with my brother in law once in a blue moon but he’s a MTB racer and doesn’t believe in stopping much
