I’m slightly concerned by the number of people who seem feel the need to keep weapons within reach of the bed,Waiting for the oppurtunity to live out some kind of bizarre Deathwish/dirty style fantasy.

I grew up in Toxteth and went to uni in salford, whilst living in Moss side and have never felt insecure enough for this weirdness.

The Father of a son’s friend keeps a samurai style sword behind the front door “just in case” and swears blind it’s a necessity. he lives about ten doors down from me.I just don’t get it at all.

Deeply dull and massively overrated in my opinion. Some good dialog doesn’t makeup for the lack of a coherent plot,Richard E Grants appalling over acting or McGann’s inabilty to act at all.Richard Griffiths and the chicken sat upright in the oven being the only things in it worth seeing.

    That’s just my opinion mind

I’ve just been informed that Im pilings guitars and amps into a friends car to pile down to London this afternoon and then join up tomorrow with Billy Bragg and Wiggy for the big busk at the Royal Festival Hall, then pile-down to the Southbank Centre for more of the same.and then possibly some beer.:)

So,apart from the traffic I`m gonna miss it all. Oh dear 🙂

Changing 13 sets of guitar strings, cleaning the guitars whilst they’re off, then making sure all the truss rods, intonation and actions are all right, cleaning all the pots and connections,Then I’ll go through all my leads and amps making sure they are all hunky dory. Then that I’ve plenty of picks and spare sets of strings.

Not because I’m avoiding the wedding but because I’ve got loads of work coming up and it’s a good day to do it.

    I’ve got one of these,

a JCB toughphone, really indestructible, floats, metal chassis inside the dust and waterproof casing, waterproof to a depth of a metre for at least an hour(and yup,I’ve tried it),bluetooth, can be recharged from a usb port if needed….the only phone I’ve ever seen with an IP rating(of 67)bloody loud ring tone, which by default is a jcb starting up.

I destroy phones on the road and gigging at a phenomenal rate and this has lasted really, really well so far.

Mine’s about half way down my back or my chest depending on where you are stood, and makes a great scarf for winter. What’s that count as?

I like the idea of smartphones but I destroy phones at an incredible rate due to either irritation and throwing them at walls, or just wear and tear.

I bought a JCB tradesman phone which is certified to ip67, it’s been through the washing machine and came out still switched on and still working,My partner swears he heard it ringing in there but didn’t realise till afterwards. it’s got bluetooth so all the clever whizzbang browsey and app stuff is done throught my Palm tx which cost 25 quid s/hand.

It’s been working three months for me so far, which is actually a new record.

No, I concentrate on playing the guitar, not pedals. Any extra fx needed can be added in post.

I’m a big, big fan of the genre and I thought it was rubbish. So far it’s mostly been a mish mash of bits nicked from other survival horrors. Will probably watch part 2 to see if it picks up.

    “z?oty (pronounced zwoty)”

Not In Poland it’s not, it’s pronounce “zloty” or “ZWAH-tee” Depemding on where you are.in most places, either will work, If you say Zwoty, they’ll just look at you confused regardless of what some online translation saftware says.:)

Zloty, which then is subdivided into 100 groszy, most things work in zloty, but be prepared for carrying a small of groszy for little bits and bobs.

I was in Deblin a week or so ago and it was bloody freezing still.

The Vinatge vibe teles are absolutely superb for the money. Getting an appropriate rock sound out of them is a peice of cake. They can be a little noisy, simply screen the body cavity and underside of the scratch plate with copper foil, you may well get a 60hz mains hum, but that’ll not be noticeable when you’re actually playing.

A Yamaha Pacifica of any model number is massively overrated for the money, the neck on them is really nice but all the hardware and electrics are really cheap and nasty, and the pegboard is about the ugliest money can buy.

Vintage guitars are again, really great for the money.

Epiphone are massively overrated, buy a Vintage instead.

Have a look at Jay Turser (which are generally a bit less than your budget, I’ve got one of their semis and it’s brilliant for the money) As others have said Gordon Smith and PRS

At the end of the day, try one you like the look of, don’t bother listening through an amp. Buy the one that feels best playing the sort of stuff you think you’ll be playing.

Then try some amps to fit the guitar. The vox vt 40 is a nice little amp, but again once you’ve got the guitar, try it through a range of different amps then buy the one you like the sound of the most with the minimum of knob twiddling.

As a session player, there’s few things as annoying as sitting in a studio waiting for a guitarist to finishing spending an hour dicking around with amp and pedal settings to get “the sound just right” So buy an amp that you can just plug in and go, and play the guitar, don’t spend your life fiddling around with pedals and knobs.

I was being circumspect:) Personally I find it to be a source of derivative sub standard rock and metal for the emotionally and musically stunted. But that may just be me. If it is, then I’m more than happy with that 🙂

    “What’s Planet Rock?”

It’s a radio station that fills almost all of it’s airtime with cringeworthy dad rock.

It really, really does need that bridge, and possibly played on a piano or accordion.

Work on the accuracy and consistency(pressure) of your fingering, it’s all over the place.

The vocal sounds forced,it sounds like your voice is trying to work at a higher pitch and you’re forcing it to go low and as a result, the overall timbre seems to drift about quite a lot. You might need to accept that you have a higher pitched voice than you’d like.

Having said all that, I quite like the lyrics and what the song could be with a little work though.

Exactly the same as when you posted it earlier today. So i’ve posted exactly the same response.

Gimp, free, a lot to learn though but it will pretty much do everything that a full version of photoshop will. It will also take many photoshop plugins.

For most basic retouching and editing,Picasa is pretty damn good and free.

I use a 64 bit version of photshop CS5 and that is bloody brilliant, but not at all cheap, but lets me composite HDR images.

Pedals, amp modellers and effects are massively overrated Any decent amp Should not really need ’em. The Peavey valve stuff is terrific. As you say, clean or slightly overdriven they are great. If you need something louder, just mike it up and bang through a pa.

I use a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier into a custom Celestion 4 x 8 cab with just a noise gate on it for the studio and on stage, and at home either a modded ( Master volume and tone contour ) Epiphone valve junior, a hot rodded Blackheart bh5h and 1x 10 cab with an attenuator box to keep the noise down, a Marshall mgfx15, or a US blues tweed custom depending on which room I’m in.

And that’s about half the amps I’ve got, reckon it could be time to trim them down…….
