    “A joke, surely!?
Don’t you get the difference between originality and imitation?”

Well, I’ve been a pro session guitarist for over thirty years, a label owner/producer/promoter for twenty plus years.

I’ve played with Amy Winehouse(who incidentally was a gem to work with and invariably got it right first take, unlike many others), Etta James, oh and PJ Harvey amongst many others and a few mentioned above. So yeah, I’m pretty ‘kin sure I can tell the difference.

So I suggest you stop talking through y’ bunghole just to get a reaction, sit down and listen without prejudice, Anyway I can’t be bothered any more ta ta 🙂

“Interesting. So people like white female singers and white female singers impersonating black female singers (eg. Whingehouse) but not many black female singers?”

Actually, I like plenty of female singers who are black and am more than happy to bracket Amy Winehouse with Etta James, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday etc, certainly in terms of ability to perform and emote anyway.

The fact that she disintegrated and ended up ruining her own life is very sad, but of no real consequence or detriment to her presence as a performer,as she had more presence in her hair, on stage and in real life than many performers can muster in their entire lives.

Generally, on ear ones will sound better, but are a lot more fragile stuffing them in and pulling them out of a bag all the time.Which is annoying if you’re buying pricey ones.

I quite like 6 Music……….however the times I’ve been on there and they’ve asked me what I wanted played, they tell you they haven’t got it and couldn’t I pick something from playlist A,B or C instead? sometimes They’ll even suggest 4 or 5 specific tracks you my want to “select”. Bit pants really.

Never found his comedy very funny,to prone to laughing at his own stories as he’s telling them, really irritating. And in real life him and his missus are proper self absorbed, self congratulatory shouty lovies who need a kick in the chuff………Can’t stomach either of ’em

Not very big,kids(4,8 and 12) were bored after about two hours, worth going if you happen to be nearby and don’t expect much more than few hours out of it. The shop is brilliant though.

I can definitely remember CaptainHaddock used to strongly hint about his time in the military and his implied membership of The Hereford Gun Club, fairly sure I can remember Jah-womble having a dig at him about it a couple of times, cos it was about the time I ordered a guitar off him.

Oddly enough, I was only wondering the other day why he’d stopped hinting about it 🙂

“would that be why my rifle is commonly called a deer rifle? because it was designed to kill people? is that right Junky?”

Are you saying if you shot it at a person that the bullet would magically veer around them because they’re not a deer ? 🙂

Yup, guitar(electric and spanish), piano, mandolin, banjo, banjolele, harmonica, lap steel and washboard and sadly have at least two of each 🙁

“Who has guitar lessons other than middle class wannabe kids who get bored after a few months?”

Er, most of the pro and session players I know or employ occasionally, people who want to be technically more proficient, wish to know more than ten chords and how they relate to each other and have broader knowledge of the fretboard as opposed to most of the hacks that play in pub bands?

I could be wrong, but I’m not 🙂

oh yeah and the recorder and it’s interchangeable relative, the tin whistle are both pretty brilliant.

I put it all on my really wonderful and highly regarded secretary’s desk, sometimes she shoves things in my face to sign then takes it away, does something magic with it and I never have to bother myself with it again.

Not that many I’d like to meet,Elfin,TSY,Yunki are on the list with a few others…. but I met Jahwomble a few times whilst he was making a guitar up for me and he and his missus were absolutely lovely, really funny as well.Took me for a ride then stuffed me full of cake,

A month after he’d delivered the guitar(complete with more chocolate cake that Liz had made),he called to check it was ok and offered to fine tune the set up as I’d had a couple of weeks with it. I’d love to meet him again but that’s not going to happen 🙁

I had one for just messing about in,it was a bugger to set,I couldn’t actually read it properly and it took me about a week to trash it, and I’m usually quite happy with cheap watches.

look at Tokia, Jay Turser or Vintage as well, Epis are well overpriced and really not that good for the money. Electrics and wiring are not great quality and the finish on the newer ones is bit cack for the money

“Looked at warmoth but it would be getting on for £250 shipped over here just for the body”

Their necks are really absolutely superb though. You can order them with pretty much any profile you want on them, even if you want a different profile at the head stock, in the middle and at the body.they’ll do it. The quality if the finish is terrific as well. I’ve got their necks on three of my guitars and they pee all over over fender custom shop necks from a great height……..

I have a Rick 330 copy kit, it was ok, took ages to get set up decently ready to build though as none of the parts quite lined up properly, so loads of measuring and faffing and dremeling to get everything lining up just right.

I know somebody else who has had a couple, hardware quality especially the machine heads is usually pretty poor, the only hardware that did get replaced straight away was the heads though, the rest when he had the time and the money. Getting the headstock right can be a pain if it’s not pre cut,be prepared to spend a long time trimming and getting a good fit on parts.be prepared to spend ages getting the finish decent.

I wouldn’t bother again. but I’m glad I did if you see what I mean.

Depending on what I’m doing that week, somewhere between 10 and twenty hours actually sat working, probably another ten or so hours listening to demos I’ve been sent or listening to new stuff on the internet, whilst I potter about the house or the studio faffing about and drinking coffee and getting jammy toast all down my front.

If I’m sessioning or touring, it could be anything up to 60 or 70 hours a week.

kind of the BMW of the guitar world I reckon, not really that great but really, really, really well marketed and branded(PRS give quite a few promo/signature models away to high profile players)and quite aspirational and accordingly overpriced.

I’ve been given two over the last few years, gave ’em both away again, not impressed for the money, Both were ok once they’d been given a decent set up, and the shoddy cheap wiring replaced. As people have mentioned above, not as good finish and as you’d expect and overpriced.

I wouldn’t buy one. but if you try it and you’re happy with ,get one but deffo try other stuff as well.
