Get a worx hydroshot and you get the hose attachment, full up a watering can from the butt and wash the car/bike etc.

Washing the car with rainwater means you don’t get water spots if it dries too…

Couple of pics from the dealer website.

It’s not on the 20″ wheels pictured, it’s coming with the original 17″ black and silver wheels, I’d have wanted to swap the 20’s quickly so that’s saved a job and some cost.

Yeah prices are crazy, but you only live once! 🤣

The fact that this one is basically ready to go for camping in, with the heater, bed board, extra battery, awning, and window blinds, means it’s saved me several thousand ££ of kit that I’d probably end up adding later on, the only thing it’s missing is a solar panel and charger, which I’ll probably add on later to take away any issues of leisure battery charging when not on hook up. I’d rather the battery be getting topped up constantly every day rather than just when I’m driving.

I’ll get it booked in for the ACC upgrade once I’m back off holiday, and will probably get the reversing camera done fairly quickly too. It’s only 10cm longer than my Skoda Superb but the back of the van feels like it’s in another county!! I guess because you’re sitting so much more forward in the van than in a car.

Yeah the parking heater be was the big sell for me, I’ll need to get a remote bought and coded though as the original owner lost it and didn’t ever replace it as they never used it.

Also, it only had the ‘eberspacher’ sticker on the driver’s door, not the webasto one so it may only have the parking heater – either that or the sticker has fallen off!

Looking through some brochures I think there was a few options for the parking heater, I did see the spec list but can’t remember if it said ‘both’. I’ll see when I pick it up!

The awning is £700 new as well so that’s a bonus.

    Thread revival time!!

Went to look at a 2018 Caravelle today, had a test drive and I’ve put down a deposit. 😬😮

Should hopefully be able to pick it up in just over a week, next Monday or Tuesday. Just in time for me to go on holiday to the Alps for 11 days!! 🤣

2018 with 43k on the clock, 150bhp TDI, DSG. It has some factory options I was after, including the 2nd leisure battery and air parking heater, electric folding mirrors, app connect. It’s a standard ‘executive’ spec so has the half alcantara/half leather interior, plus the multiflex board and window black out blinds, plus the laminated glass option (which deletes the heated screen, but not needed with the parking heater). It also has a 3 pin plug, and usb/12v sockets fitted running off the 2nd battery, and a camping hookup plug, all professionally fitted, and a Fiamma wind out awning. All in, about £2500 worth of stuff if I wanted to retro fit it mydelf. Oh and a swivel passenger front seat and sliding side windows (yes, I know thay can leak, these look ok, drain holes clear and no signs of any leaks). Its got the LED headlights too.

It’s missing adaptive cruise control BUT after some digging it can be coded back in for £500 so I’ll be getting that done asap. It’s also missing the reversing camera, I’ll get that done soonish.

Test drive: It’s a big old girl, isn’t it! 😮 But quiet as you like, plenty of poke even with the 150 version, and such a comfortable driving position, arms on the arm rests, just cruising along! Takes a decent bit more input on the wheel to get it to go around corners, I won’t be taking roundabouts as fast as in my Superb, that’s for sure.

The only thing I’d possibly want changing is the colour, as it’s in deep pearl black – but tbh I’d have probably ended up with a grey one anyway. I’ll decide over winter whether to get it detailed and ceramic coated, or maybe get it wrapped with a full colour change…

Ahh, that makes more sense now. You can see the clean drilled hole under the wrap.

Is there a smaller, neater hole about 9mm in diameter in the other door?

Can’t be just me who things that doesn’t look like a drill hole? Looks like something has exited from inside the van, based on the ragged edges being ripped towards the outside of the van…

I’ve got a 2017 superb with the 2.0tdi 150bhp engine, plenty quick enough and dpf issues aren’t a problem so long as you’re driving long enough for the engine to get up to temperature. It’ll do an ‘active’ regen where you’ll see the engine idle revs sit at 1k instead of the normal 8-900rpm, and if you switch off the engine whilst it’s doing it the fans will be on and it’ll ‘smell’ hot. I’ve interrupted it a few times and never had an issue with it completing the dpf regen on the next drive.

We’ve got a combination of most of the above. **** annoying wood pigeons sat on a light on the side of the house ‘coooo’ing all day. Jackdaws ca cawing. Although I don’t mind these, they’re pretty intelligent and they’re like the mobsters of the neighborhood “eeeey, I’m walkin here!’. There’s a mottled white and black one that I think I could probably feed by hand if I had the patience, they’re quite happy close to humans. The starlings are the worst though, loads of young ones at the moment and they even fight about whose turn it is to take a bath in the drinking water we’ve put out 🤣

2.9kg and 2.6kg for of Bosch’s Performance Line CX and Shimano’s EP8 – plus another 1.8kg for a SRAM GX eagle drivetrain.

So at 4kg, it’s a actually lighter… Not to mention the advantages of reducing unsprung mass with no rear mech or cassette on the rear wheel.

    Hell. Yes.

As a pinion gearbox owner and lover, I’ve been looking forward to this coming out, so long as the cost isn’t extreme this will take off hugely.

Just booked with Snowcard for 12 days in the Alps, including riding over 3000m, so the one down from the top cover (extreme adventure) and it was 90 quid for me, early 40’s with no health issues. Didn’t need baggage cover etc as that’s covered in my regular travel insurance.

Also out there early July, Les Gets/Morzine, La Thuile, Alp Du Huez.

Well, tbh the 70mph motorway/DC speed limit is outdated anyway, it was set back in the 60’s for Christ sake.

You’d need GPS based restrictions depending on where you’re driving too, not just a blanket limit based on where the car was registered.

Someone doing 75mph on a motorway isn’t exactly killing all the children though, are they. People doing 40/50mph through 30 or 20 zones is another matter. So no, I don’t see the point. It’d cost millions and let’s face it, how often do you actually see someone doing stupid speeds on motorway?

They do a flanged and non flanged version, as well.

Makes them sound even more like a medical underwear product.

So these push on grips don’t need tricks like using hairspray, like you did when fitting motorbike grips?

Just ordered a pair, at £11 it’d be rude not to. Got a big Alps trip coming up and was looking at some comfier grips as I think descending hundreds of metres every day is going to be arm pump central!!

Yeah that’s the one, then the dropper lever described as ‘no clamp’ and you’re sorted. The Hope mount bolts to the tech 4 lever, then the dropper lever to the mount.

It can drop to a point where it’s then uncomfortable on the knees to rise back up from that position.

    Erm… What?! 🤣

I’ve gone from 150mm to 200mm to 210mm to 240mm and the 240mm is friggin awesome. It’s really out of the way, and of course if I don’t want it that low I can always use the amazing feature of not dropping it so much… 😁

Has anyone got the new/latest v3 one up remote to fit directly on to the hope tech 4 e4 lever? Or is it a band on only scenario? Can’t see anything on google to suggest it’s doable but thought I’d ask here

Yep, you need the base dropper lever with no clamp, then you’ll need the Hope tech 4 SRAM shifter mount.

Best lever out there IMO, light action and you only need to press it a tiny amount for it to actuate.

I’m going in 4 weeks, 10 days riding on a guided trip covering Les Gets/Morzine, La Thuile, and Alp Du Huez. Well be riding ‘wild’ natural trails though, not bike park stuff.

Just ordered a photochromatic set of goggles (already have a cheap brand x set) to go with my MET parachute convertible helmet. Trying to find a set of lightweight elbow pads, I don’t normally wear them but will if I can find a set in stock.

I’ll be taking plenty of pads, hope green are my usual but I’ll probably stick in a couple of sets of the purple e-bike pads for those big descents!

I mistakenly watched the first episode of ‘Another Life’ the other day. Thought ‘decent looking sci-fi series, aliens, Katee Sackhoff, what can go wrong?’

Oh my. Jesus Christ it’s bad. Everything, it would seem. Yikes.

The 6% rating on RT is generous I think!

And on a completely different note, Ted Lasso has ended. *Both cries and laughs at the same time.

    What a show.

A 10 year old caravelle is still going for £25-30k depending on mileage.

If there’s any movement on prices come autumn it’ll be a couple of grand, but prices aren’t going back to what they were pre-covid.

Not a camper as such, but I’m still looking for a 2017-onwards VW Caravelle – I’m hoping there’ll be more vans available and prices will relax a little come autumn but I’m not expecting much. For a 2018 van with under 50k miles (with the spec I want) you’re looking at 40-45k.

Nice, obviously it won’t take as long a bike as the original arms but ideal for a kids bike or extra road bike etc.

Highly recommended carrier and even more so it’s now got a 3 bike option.

That’s not much out that way, I’ve looked at the OS maps a lot. You’re in-between in the no man’s land between the North and South downs.

For too many years I’ve just bought crappy £10-£20 sunglasses that typically last less than a year before they disintegrate.

I’ve got a pair of Oakley half jackets that must be getting on for 20 years old, and are still on the original lenses. Think I paid about £120 back in 2005ish.

Yep I have the 630E too, the brushless one. I’ll happily use it to wash my car, it’s not quite as poweful as a mains pressure washer but a good bit more (and more water flow) than the basic hydroshot.

It does mean though that it’ll drain a 25l water container fairly quickly. If I’m doing a proper wash on a really dirty bike I might get 3 washes out of 20-25l of water!

Did replacing the seals sort it @ta11pau1?

Initial impressions they seem to appear so, yes. It’s now fitted to my hardtail, haven’t been for a ride on it yet but it’s holding pressure.

BPW might a bit full on – even the blues have a much higher speed than regular trails.

I wouldn’t say somewhere like BPW is a suitable place for a beginner/novice. You’ll also have fast riders on the blues going very fast, that combined with a novice 9 year old is just a recipe for a big crash and injury.

Why did you need an uplift? Anywhere with one is going to be gravity focused and therefore more advanced than a beginner should be riding.

Edit: they do have that new green trail which would be suitable, look up ‘kermit’.

The pad type also makes a difference, hope green pads barely need any bedding in. Whereas sintered pads need getting proper hot to be fully bedded in.

If a previously used disc with a different pad compound, I’d give the discs a rub with some sandpaper first.

If not, then essentially it’s just getting the pads/disc hot enough to transfer material from the pad to the disc, by performing lots of hard braking from whatever speed I can get up to on the road outside my house, breaking down to an almost stop, then repeating until the brakes get to full power. Rear brake first, then the front.

I think they’ve missed a trick – it *should* be a custom sized fuse, which they could charge a bit more for but would only fit into an equally expensive 3-pin plug…

Would sir like a £5400 plug to go with his £8000 fuse?

    New development.

Van had what appears to be a full engine rebuild last year, following oil leak from timing cover. DPF was blocked at same time.

Is this good, bad or neutral?

It’s not a T5 VW with the 180bhp BiTdi engine, is it?

    In short, yes.

You’ve got the Surrey hills (main base normally being peaslake) on the doorstep which has some of the best MTB trails in the SE.

There’s a bit of everything – XC trails, steep scary stuff, jumps, enduro trails.

    Have a look on trailforks.

You’ve also got loads of bridleways around box hill etc.

Literally tonnes of riding in the area.

Can someone translate KWh measures of efficiency into an mpg or ppm ICE equivalent?

    It’s… Complicated. 🤣

The king and short of it, is that currently running an EV isn’t really any cheaper than running a dino-burner, unless you have a silly cheap overnight leccy tarrif and/or solar.

Ev’s are less efficient at motorway speeds, and rapid charging on the public network is the most expensive form of charging – so if you’re doing lots of longer journeys then that’s going to be more expensive with the current fuel and electric prices. If you do lots of short trips from home and can charge over night on a cheap tariff then it’ll be much cheaper than a diesel car.

If you do a mix, it’ll probably work out about the same.

So I had zero issues with my brakes in my 2 week trip with about 5000m of descending and 200km.

Just pulled apart my spare tech 4 lever (which I might add, is a literal 5 minute job!) and the main seal has a bit of a nick in it so that’s why it wasn’t holding pressure.

I’ll get a replacement master cylinder/seal kit ordered and it’ll go on my hardtail.

    Thanks for the replies.

So it’s a van on 127k miles with impeccable service history and claimed mainly motorway mileage.

Clutch, belt and fuel pump changed at 100k

I only expect to do 5-7k miles per year, and hope to keep it for 10 years (my current van has been with me that long)

With vans you sort of expect a bit higher mileage – but it should be ready to tell just by the condition if it’s been looked after by a single owner, or treated like a mobile toilet by about 20 different unsympathetic builders… 🤣
