Thanks for all the replies, I’ll call an electrician later.

For the record though, the red, black ‘neutral’ was a typo and should have been earth. I’m also confident (and compitent) that I’ve wired the switch correctly but there must be another fault that’s tripping the board.

I do know my limits though!

    Thanks again

Well there’s nothing else to do but go to bed!

If I buy a proper junction box tomorrow to mount on the ceiling ‘should’ it just be a case of joining the wires togther via the box?

    Thanks for all the help

No joy, I’ve tried wiring it up either way but it’s still tripping the mcb????

how do I tell which wires are load and which are supply, trial and error?

Thanks all, I’ll give that’ a go.

I do want to do away with the switch altogether, what’s the best way to this so I can hopefully push the wires back up and plaster over the hole?

Thanks for the replies, I’m not planning on riding around the world, I’m just doing my normal fairly full on peak district riding but camping out at the end as oppose to riding home.

I don’t want to compromise my bikes handling (too much) and certainly don’t want to compromise the fun.

I will be wearing a rucksack but wanted to keep the weight and bulk to a minimum. The Thule rack looks interesting i’ll have a proper look at that.

yes I probably could get some more on the bars but im conscious of the weight, I’ve got the Alpkit Pipedream 300 bag and could probably get my thermarest in there too (the Airlock dual hasn’t arrived yet so I haven’t had chance for a test yet).

I suppose if I can get both of those on the bars then it doesn’t leave that much for the pack?

    thanks all,

I don’t want to loose the dropper post and even with a normal post id have to drop it for descents so anything under the seat would rub on full travel, I tried strapping my matt there one time. I will try and see how big I can go though and see how the pipe insulation works out.

I did look at the stem cells but thought the bars would be too crowded, I have got an old chalk bag though so will try that.

I hadn’t thought of another top tube bag at the seat tube so will try that.

That’s the best option scotroutes, I do have a hack hardtail but I want to take my good bike and im not quite able to justify a new bivi bike (though it might not be far off!)

There are only one set of cage mounts on the down tube so there’s no other suitable place to move it too (?), I’ve thought about doing away with the bottle but then that puts me back to a bladder on my back.

    thanks,

My bike is fine I’ve given it a good check over, the knee is fine now, it was just a graze.

I have considered him coming back at me but the letter will state that no one was at fault, i.e. a knock for knock.

I’ll mull it over a bit more though

Just an update on this, I had a call back from a solicitor but as I wasn’t injured or had time off work then they weren’t interested and if I did pursue it myself out of principle the most compensation I could hope for would be for the damage to me equipment i.e. £140. His advice was to sign the letter and take the money.

Thanks all and thanks for the link Superficial, very helpful.

I’ll sleep on it but if he wants to be funny about it then it’s good to know where I stand.

Thanks both, for me the crux of it has become the issue of me coming down the inside, if legally that would mean I’m in the wrong then I will accept that, put it down to experience and not pursue it any further but if not then I might consider taking it further.

Out of interest I did always did ride down the outside but was nearly wiped out by someone turning right without looking or signalling, I can’t win!

Thanks, private physio appointment booked for tomorrow, interesting you mention it might be related to the shoulder as I have a detached clavicle on the right side from a biking accident but that was 15 years ago?

thanks, yes I thought that but was going to the docs as the first port of call for a physio referral?

Thanks very much guys that’s a great help.

The round one should be fine shouldn’t it as its the same width and can be soldered in line just like the square ones?

GD if you’ve got one then great but I don’t mind getting the amazon ones.

    thanks again

Thanks atlaz i’ll bare that in mind as hopefully we will go back.

Sambuka, no we didn’t come across those, thankfully! But you’re right about the family route in Les Angles, I rode it to see what it was like and decided it was too much for my 12 & 10 year olds.

Thanks for the tips all, we had a great week staying at the Camping du Lac site just below Les Angles. Really nice site with lots to do, biking was a perfect mix of family trails and bigger stuff for me plus lots of great walks, lakes and even a thermal spa.

    Cheers

Thanks for the replies, I think it must be due to wear but the wear is really premature by anyone’s standard. It was all a brand new set up about 2 months ago, XT clutch mech (cluth engaged!) Raceface NW ring and decent SRAM cassette and chain but recently it started to drop. It’s not just the technical stuff but technical stuff ridden at speed as my riding buddy who’s also gone 1×10 had the same problems.

yes chain length is as short as i dare go

thanks for the link that would do the job but thats way out of my price range unfortunately.

id looked at the superstar top guide which looked ideal but for the 32t bit, i did email them and they said i may be able to get it to work but it may be tricky. might give it a punt though for £16.99

thanks all, i like the routing out idea but the work top is a grained really high gloss finish so i’ll never get a good match.

repairing as best i can then hiding it seems the best option, on the other side we have a big chopping block with a lip on the front so i’ll get another ones of those

Oh well, I better start looking for a replacement then.

    Thanks all

I like the duct tape idea but I’m not sure the wife will be so enthusiastic!

I want to try a repair first, it’s only 3 1/2 yrs old, was far from cheap and as it’s thicker than normal it’s going be a pain to replace and not mess with the tiling etc.

Glad people are happy with the stuff,

With regard to the bib shorts, having always had mountain bike baggies liners this was my first venture into bib shorts and I don’t think I’ll go back. The pad is so much better than any mountain bike ones I’ve had and having everything tucked in is good too, except I’m still working out the best way for trail wee’s!
