Nice, I did a similar thing yesterday, not quite as retro but I couldn’t resist a Cove Stiffee frame on eBay. Looking forward to building it up.

Perfect thread as I’ve been getting around to buying the Seasuckers but will certainly give the Rockbros a try after the feedback. I’ve got a 996 and a T2 camper so they should be idea,

Thanks both, I’ll see if there are any sale deals on either size.

Thanks all, the forks are 27.5 160 Pikes, frame is 2018 Transition Patrol.

There’s certainly no shortage of mud around here and they will be ridden hard so maybe I’d be better with 2.6’s. I’ll have a look at the German shops too.

    Thanks all, Merry Christmas

I picked a normal oven one from a charity shop for a fiver, works a treat.

    Get yourself a paddle too!

Went to look at that yesterday, that’s the only one though. I’m after a large.

Fakes range so much from retina burning obvious fakes to really very good ones that do make you question why people pay the premium for the name.

Ive got a couple of pairs of genuine ones that have lasted years and would’ve said don’t bother with any fakes for so many reasons but I did buy a great pair last summer for $10 from a beach seller when I’d left mine back at the hotel.

I’m guessing you’d be disappointed with any eBay purchases but I can recommend travelling to Bali for some.

Renton, where are they for £1799, that certainly sweetens things up?

    Bluearsedfly that looks lovely.

I’m getting a new bike after Christmas and my shortlist is the Sentinel, Whyte GS170/150 or Cotic Rocket Max.

The Sentinel was in the lead for a long time but it’s slipping down the ranks. I went for a look at the lbs and 2019 seems quite expensive. £3k for the NX/Yari build and that wine colour looks awful, combined with the weight I’m starting to change my mind. The geometry looks spot on though and there are plenty of 2018’s out there for £2k which makes it more tempting.

The Whytes look great, a mate and his son have both the 170 and 150 and really rate them. They seem slightly better value and again some good 2018 deals with GX/Rev builds for £2k.

The RocketMax is in the lead at the moment, three of my mates ride them and love them. I’d thought they were pricey but when you compare them to any other new bikes they stack up really well and much easier to spec you’re own build as oppose to an off the shelf number.

I’m recovering from a hernia op at the mo but will sort some test rides in the new year.

Thanks for that, £45 though. I’ve paid £35 for my others so I’m probably best stumping up another tenner for the new one

Its the main pivot bolt which is number 2 on the bottom right of the first picture.

The bearing is enclosed in the end cap of the bolt, I did try to prise it out but couldn’t seen a way so think its a sealed unit?

I can’t get the bearing out, its a sealed unit. Spesh only sell the full set for £80!

Thanks folks, they’re RC 29 Solo air spring.

A quick Google doesn’t show any reba replacements over 120mm, anyone know who might stock them?

There are 140mm Rev and Pike ones though, are they a different size?

Thanks all, there are plenty of 2016’s out there for £1500 so that’s what I’m looking at now, my lbs has one in so I’ll go and have a sit to start with.

Other negatives in the reviews are the flexi wheels and the Rev forks. I’m not too bothered about the wheels but how do people rate the Revs? I’ve had some 26’s a while ago which were great but I have Pikes on my other bike so the bar is pretty high.. Also they come as 120mm, is it just a cartridge swap to take them up to 140mm?

Thanks folks, sounds like it’s to do with the chainstays.

I’ll see what deals I can find

Some progress, checking the filler loop must have freed something as I was when I opened the drain valve again the pressure dropped to 0. I then used the filler loop to increase the pressure to 1.5.

It still wouldn’t fire though or at least not just the heating but if I put the water on as well it fired up fine. However when I turned the water off the boiler went off and the pressure went up to a new record of 2.1???

I’ve left it on for a bit to see if the rads warm up but it looks like I’ll have to call someone tomorrow.

    Ok,

No error code showing, nothing coming out of the pipe.

I’ve found the fill loop, valve is closed (and is functioning fine) and nothing has changed there from when it was working last night.

    Thanks guys

Hammyuk, I don’t know what the fill loop is, how can check that please? ( I haven’t done anything since last night though when it was working fine).

Bikebouy, the first thing I tried was bleeding and there was no air at all, I’ll try again though after I’ve been faffing.

    Thanks all

    – I’ll have a look into the pressure vessel

    – It doesn’t matter what pressure I drop it too, as soon as I close the valves the pressures goes up to 1.8.

    – Yes pilot is on or I know it will fire as it did for a second when I caught it but it cut off when the pressure increased.

Why don’t you create an ‘iceberg’ house, dig down 2 or 3 stories and then you can have a proper cinema, gym and a swimming pool.

I’ve had a few different pairs and none have been that good, and yes water coming in down the top is always a problem.

If it’s really raining, like this morning, then a couple of tesco carrier bags under my Planet X overshoes with my over trousers on top does the trick.

Thanks folks, sounds like a goer then and the Thule ones don’t seem too badly priced.

Sorry, I meant roof gutters not rails so I’d need the clip on type roof bars, It’s a 1978 Alfa Romeo GTV.

My dad still tells the story of the whole roof rack sliding off one holiday when we went around a roundabout so I don’t want the same to happen with my bike, hopefully though the modern bars will attach better?

Now for the bearings, main ones each side came out fine but the free hub one won’t.

By the look of things they need to be pushed out through the body as there’s a lip for the circlip on the front? But behind the bearing are what look to be two spacers?

The very big hammer has failed to budge it so I’m just checking before I go all out?

Thanks all sorted, it was very tight and needed the puller all the way and I needed the very big hammer for the axle, it’s in one piece though thankfully.

    Thanks

Thanks, it must be really stuck fast, I’ll get my puller on it now I know.

No spare axle but no indication that it’s snapped, fingers crossed!

smidge of grease and nip them up tight, they shouldn’t come undone, id only use locktite if they kept coming loose.

Looks like I’m going to have to get used to it as in my haste I left the box and packaging out in my office and the cleaners have binned it!

I’ve got the 300 but they all seem to be the same dimension wise.

It’s certainly lighter than my old bag but not that much smaller on pack size.

If I lie on my back like a mummy then it’s ok but I like to lie on my side, and I don’t find tightness nice but find it constricting, Oh well each to their own, maybe it’s just me then as I’m not overly broad or fat?

Electrician came round this afternoon, I had wired the switch up correctly but the mcb in the consumer unit had blown.

He went to get a replacement but phoned to say he was couldn’t find one anywhere and it might be a while before he could fix it. I’ve just googled though and found them in loads go shops for £2.50?! It’s a 3 year old Wylex unit.

I’ll see what he says tomorrow!
