Well that settles it, I’ll be taking Mike up on the custom colour option :)

You have 12 pistons in your brakes. If you die in the alps it will be all your fault.

….and don’t forget to look at rosebikes for cheapy shimano

You’ll presumably learn a lot of the skills you’d need to make a proper frame, but won’t be shelling out 2K+. Seems decent to me.

I’ve found RQ front and MK rear to be a great combination by the way :)

I’ve got a 2.4 MKII Protection that’s virtually brand new that I no longer need. Might it be of interest?

Take it as a warning and make sure the rest of your bike is secured very well.

The 7674 blue looks a lot more interesting than the other one, a guy on the FB page described the other as very ‘primary’ looking (a bit boring)

oooh, that’s not the whole story rich! There are blues on the cards too! It is just the blues though not the other colours.

I think you’ll have to find and then be-friend Dialled Bikes for the link to work. Login first, then go here……

I think you will quickly find out which bike you prefer for the majority of your riding.

Then you’ll probably end up buying a load more parts to build up the other one anyway. This is probably a good thing.

Awaiting the news nervously, I desperately want to put an order in!

Personally I’d love the opportunity to get hold of an unpainted frame and get it painted the colour of my choosing! Or even better, strike that deal with your local sprayer and we’ll just send you the RAL numbers with our orders!

Ooh, aqua, that’d look amazing on that frame. Nice and bold like a dialled should be.

I think white would look decent but really I’m hoping Mike does it in blue, there hasn’t been a blue alpine yet has there?

I run my Flow EX’s with just the yellow tape. So far they’ve been great with Hans Dampfs, Rocket Rons, Racing Ralphs, Mountain King II’s and even a Sammy Slick.

It’s my experience that the thick rim strip isn’t necessary if you’re going to run any of the above.

Seriously, to all the carbon loving weight weenies, no-one’s saying that your light bikes mean you’re not fit, we all acknowledge that the typical XC bike rider is built like a bunch of twiglets wrapped in sausage skin.

2.35 Rocket Ron Snakeskin for the rear. Great combo. Racing Ralphs only come in up to 2.25 now and are tiny by comparison with the hans dampf.

On a side note, Schwalbe say these can’t be repaired once torn. I have successfully repaired two 4mm slashes in the sidewall and tread from the inside using bits of old inner tube and vulcanising rubber solution. Easy peasy!

I’d go for the snakeskin, well worth the extra few grams.

Yeah, but its about half an average weight inner tube each end. For me the pros of the extra width far out weight the weight penalty. Depends what you are looking for but I’d say if you’re planning on running 2.4’s it’s a no brainer. If I were building a full on xc bike with 2.1’s it’d be a different story. What bike are they for?

It’s my experience that 2.4s work much better on the flow ex, having swapped from the arch ex for that very reason. Sure the arch will work but you get the tyre squirming around sooner and miss out on the benifits of the extra volume.

Take the fork outside with the race pushed loosely in place, turn it upside down and then ram it down the hole in your garden furniture where the sun umbrella goes twice a year

Oh why can’t Schwalbe put the rocket ron and racing ralph treads on the 2.35 Hans Dampf carcass. The resulting tyre would be a mid weight, high volume tyre with good puncture resistance and sidewall stiffness that rolled well. The perfect compliment for a Hans Dampf. If they did that I’d by one of each in an instant!

sandal100 – The 2.25 nobby nic is only 545 grams. I know that is not enough tyre for the rear of my hardtail having tried a 2.4 rocket ron at a similar weight. I’m sure I need something in the 700-800 gram range to stand up to the beating it’ll get on the back of my hardtail.

Ah yes, should have said I’d be looking at the 2.4 version. I’m not too bothered if it isn’t all that grippy, but the tread wear does worry me. Have found the trailstar Hans Dampf to be wearing ok so far though.

I’ve tried the 2.2 rubber queen, but wanted more volume. Also the 2.4 but its just that bit too heavy for me.

Would really like to stick with Schwalbe front and rear. Silly I know but can’t seem to tame the OCD.

Wow, some people spend a lot of time on their bikes each week! I’m not a roady, more of a weekends mountain biker. I consider a good weekend to one when I get a 30km route in!

Appears I have a long way to go to catch up 8O
