I have had good results with Nikwax Direct TX wash in waterproofer.
Wash clothes first with the tech wash, then fill a bucket / sink with a bit of water and the direct tx as per the instructions (in truth I make it much stronger, just enough water to cover the thing you’re proofing)
Dunk in the jacket, mix about and leave in for a few mins then pull out and shake off excess and leave to dry. The remaining can then be used for another jacket / shorts / whatever.
It will leave you harnds and sink waterproof too so will need to wash down after. I don’t bother rinsing the jacket after like Nikwax says, seems to work well.

Surely being 6′ puts you firmly into the ‘large’ category?

Coming from a trials world, we have this.
The issue is the thread on the hub is not centrally cut, so you get a wobble. Have a look at the next trials bike you see with a front freewheel. The chain will wobble up and down quite a lot.

Not sure what the fix was (sorry!) but happened to our 55 plate Transit Connect too. A little unnerving having to slip the clutch in a 30 zone

I got caught doing 35 in a 30 on my way home from work a year or 2 back and managed to talk my way out of it scot free, a colleague got caught doing 36 and was put on the course.

This was a policeman with a radar / laser gun.

No problems here pumping oil out over the past 4 years and about 80k miles.

The pumping method also allows you to suck oil from the filter housing and all the little nooks and crannies, and obviously the end of the tube can be poked and moved about within the sump to get any corners or pockets of oil that might be sat there.

I go with the ethos of buying my own oil and filters for about £30 a shot and doing it twice as often (5k miles) than paying £60 for someone else to do it.

But hey each to their own. If you have the facilities to jack the car up place axle stands, remove under tray, remove drain plug, fit new drain plug, replace under tray and remove jacks then go for it, some people are limited to the road outside or whatever.

I use a Pela one, nothing stopping you from emptying out a bit of old oil before you remove the rest from the sump.

I have a bunch of old 5l containers full of old oil in the garage. So start with full new oil, empty old oil into Pela, put new oil in engine, bang old oil from pela into now empty oil container, store on shelf for 15 years.

Helps if the oil is warm / hot before you do this as its less viscous and easier to pump.

I’ve done the last 10 or so changes like this and the pump pays for its self after the first couple.

    No gate at Cardinham, correct.

Not sure about the parking times although there are quite a few spots to park that arn’t the actual lanhydrock car park, also not sure if they have gates on all the car parks. The trails are ‘open’ whenever. Worst came to worst you could park at dinnums and ride from there.

Yep, as Adam said, sack off the parallel push, decent cables and a good set of trials pads from Tarty, but most important is set-up. Good luck!

I have the £44 easyclean one and it’s been spot on, bought christmas 2013 and has so far been impeccable. Battery lasts well, oral hygiene is very much improved, only gripe is cost of replacement brush heads.

So yeah.. sounds like you’ve been unlucky / I’ve been lucky!

Giro Xar not enough head coverage? They come in small, which can be made to be pretty tiny.

Worth keeping an 8mm on you to tighten them up after the first couple of rides.

Thats pretty normal with new cranks, if they sat all the way on the crank first go the taper would be pretty useless and would be wobble central.

If they’re anodised you’ll need caustic soda to strip, autosol to polish. Will last a little while but without any protective lacquer it will dull over a couple of weeks or so

No you can park at either one and ride to the other. Both are free other than parking, which is great in this day and age.

don’t hate it, just think grogley is betterer.

Fair one, never been to be honest! Pretty easy to navigate the trails there?

I don’t really get the hate, or, to be honest, those saying Lanhydrock is better. Admittedly it’s not the same as a welsh or scottish trail centre, but as south west trail centres go it’s up there in my opinion. I find it more short and sharp than haldon, no it’s not the longest but ridden fast the blue with additional red loops (inc. Hells Teeth) are pretty fun. The hells teeth section is pretty rocky and has some great switchbacks on the decent, areas to get some air (if you hit them fast enough).

We tend to do 4 loops flat out which equates to around the 20 mile mark.

Nice, my very first mtb rides were up the Wrekin when I was about 12 and lived in London, visiting Telford for the grandparents.

I remember a good descent over the ‘back’ of the hill away from where everyone tends to to walk up?

Do you have any more details on that? What does the skills area involve? Is it linked to a forestry commission car park or something?

@redddragon – Cheers, will check out GoOutdoors, they have been good to me in the past.

@matt – Like I say, best allrounder… Windproof and moderate warmth but breathability is key, not bothered about being waterproof. Or is that asking too much?

Cheers guys, ordered a WTB i-23 which seems to fit the bill. Only tipped over to those from the Nukeproofs or Superstars by the graphics, all look pretty ideal so thanks for the recommendations!

This is very outdated info but I thought I’d throw my 2p in anyway.

They used to do a southern dh series there and there was a hardtail category. There were some fair sized jumps but wasn’t particularly steep or tech. It’s a sort of sandy clay soil so can get a bit slippery when very wet.

It used to be around the £5 per day, and didn’t have to book just turn up and pay at the hut / cafe thing.

Yeah burning the oil off with oven/hob/blowtorch might be worth a try. Got a pic of the pads? Could you modify an existing pair to make fit?

BTW that bolt sticking out of the caliper looks lethal!
