I’m a fan of Ophir – May not be boutique, but very much enjoy the peppery twinge.

I used rentalcars.com from Toulouse. Cheap and stressfree. Ended up with Inter-rent, a subsidiary of Europcar. All good. (other than having to drive a Punto, but that was entirely my fault for choosing it)

I don’t really agree with the notion of all boating being like burning money. Yes obviously you can buy expensive boats, yes obviously you can pay a lot of money to store them but it doesn’t HAVE to be expensive.

I have a Honda Honwave inflatable that, as a package, cost me £1700. Yamaha 15hp outboard, came with anchor, fuel tank, lock, tow rope, etc etc, everything you need to get out on the water (other than a lifejacket).

Costs me about £5- 8 in fuel for a day out, stored in the garage and the engine costs about £50 in parts to service. Launching is either free or a tenner, depending on where I go.

Admittedly it’s 3.8m long so not something you would necessarily want to cross the channel in, but on a calm day that’s not to say you couldn’t.

I have a 2012 Maxi Life with the 2.0tdi 140bhp and we use the swb panel vans for work with the 1.6 104bhp.

The 1.6 is ok for the smaller, lighter panel van but runs out of steam on the motorway. The 2.0tdi is much better all round, particularly given the extra weight of the maxi.

I run my life with the ‘middle’ 3 seats either folded forward for sleeping / 4 bikes or with one of the two seats up depending on how many bikes I have in there. I’ve used the ‘rear’ 2 seats a couple of times for ferrying people about at stag do’s and the like, which can be helpful to cram 7 of you in there in comfort. The are heavy though, and although I can lift and put them in on my own I don’t like carrying them too far.

I use a bit of foam matting I got for a tenner on the bay to put down over the carpet, which has worked really well. easy to brush etc.

    Mid Devon – Mel Stride.

Seems relatively clean, other than claiming £3223 for heating (Honiton MP claimed £151 in the same year).

    HOWEVER

Holy shit he doesn’t half vote like a moron. Every vote was the opposite to how I would expect a normal person to vote. Gay rights? No no no. Lower tax on the poor? Nope. Mansion tax? Are you silly?

I will not be voting for him. Ridiculous.

Aquarium next to the Barbican, on a nice day the Barbican is nice for a wander and as above, get a Cap’n Jaspers for sure. The Hoe is nice on a nice day too.

I’m usually happy to squeeze past other drivers in our narrow Deb’n country lanes, but if I see a tractor I’ll always do my best to stay out of their way, usually with a big thumbs up. Not worth the risk IMO.

Everyone seems to rub along quite nicely around these parts (apart from when you town folk come down in the summer and have no idea about reversing or country roads in general  )

Yeah I have a Maxi Life and it’s the same as a car on speed limits and things like bridge tolls.

    It’s also great.

Magic Mary up front and whatever floats your boat out back would be a good choice I think. Totally depends what runs you do of course, but that should be a good compromise.

A few muddier bits on enter the dragon and vicious valley but MM should cope well.

As above, ice cream for me.

Also soup and I found some pear and ginger squash in Sainsburys that is pretty good for a drink.

Anything ‘wet’ is better, can’t think of anything worse than eating a ryvita with a sore throat.

I know a couple of people with very expensive houses in the Cayman Islands who have this stuff in their bathrooms… So I guess good?

We stayed HEREin November for my missus’ birthday. Literally outside a metro station, 2 min walk to eiffel tower and a nice area with carrefour next door. Pretty simple hotel with no frills but was very modern, comfortable, quiet and the staff friendly.

Watch out for pick pockets and people trying to tie a small bit of string around your wrist…

Not 100% sure but if buying new the price is minimal so may as well go with a 16? I’ve read somewhere even if the actual data isn’t over 8gb it sometimes has troubles with 8gb ones.

I’d play it safe and go 16.

I bought one just under a year ago, 2012 model with the 2.0 tdi engine, black with tail gate..

I bought it because my trust Octavia was getting a bit long in the tooth (197k miles)and still on original clutch etc, so decided now was the time to change.

I love it! Even though I’ve only had it for about 8 months now, Its been great for adventures.

Its very versatile, I removed the 2 rear seats as I wanted the load space for bikes etc, and just fold the split 3 rear seats down as per my requirements.

Great for slinging a few bikes in, can fit 4 mtbs with wheels on and minimal effort and 2 people or 3 mtbs (whole, again)and 3 people or 5 people and 5 bikes (front wheels off).

I’ve taken the 3 seats out for a festival and a double mattress fits in perfectly, I had loads of space to lie alongside my missy, and I’m 6’2″. Cupholders great for a bedside table!

I also have a 3.8m inflatable boat with 15hp outboard and all the gear that goes in the back with ease.

Great for weekends away with the lads, much better being able to carry 5 of us and all our kit rather than split between 2 vans.

The life over the standard maxi is more car like and ‘nicer’ with the full length head liner and no exposed metalwork in the back. The cupholders for the rearward 2 passengers are handy for water bottles, chain lube, straps for bikes, wet wipes etc and stops them from just kicking about in the main load area. They also make a nice shelf to keep fishing rods out of the way and safe.

I came from a 130bhp so the 140 2.0tdi is great for me on the steep hills of devon, not driven a 1.6 in maxi form but im sure it would be fine if not exactly fast. The 1.6 is pretty torquey in the swb caddy i drive too, but the extra bhp makes it more liveable as a daily driver.

Parking is fine (given a long enough spot) and the height means you can fit in all but the lowest of car parks (not come across one yet). Cheaper entry into wales and no van speed limits.

    So yeah, great!

Dart owns a lot of the Cayman Islands and most of the single use cups and packaging you will use in your life time. I know a few people who work for the dart group and have heard he is into MTB so makes sense.

The top part is on hydraulic rams and slides over the lower section for transport.

With the back bench out (leaving 5 seats) two 26″ers will go in whole, on the angle. May have to spin the bars of one of them 180 to gain a bit more length.

Alternatively take front wheels out and they’ll go in straight, against the sides leaving loads of room for other stuff.

“You said it, not me. But add in a trees to meander around and you’ve got Haldon. “

Although to be fair you havn’t been for four years…

Blue trail is good for a flat out blast, takes about 15 – 20 mins.

Red is ok, pretty rocky. Tight and narrow rather than technical.

Some good tight, twisty, tech rooty off piste sections which can be easily spotted from the blue, throw in one of those for fun too.

Don;t bother with the “black” section.

Cool so is this something I can do while I’m at the dealership? I’m slightly worried that I put it on retention, drive up there and realise the new car is ****, then have to sort out getting new plates for my current car etc etc.
