That’s what I was thinking. She would still be wanting to do part time which she has heard anecdotally works where we are based. She would rather work direct for the school and as such, is planning her exit to avoid as much disruption at her current school as possible. She has worked there about 10 years and therefore sees them as being an ideal school to go and work direct for, especially since she knows them, the pupils and the systems.

It’s going to be one of these things where we don’t know how it goes until we give it a go but forewarned is forearmed and all that

Cheers, I know they tie you to the schools which is why she is beginning to think about working her contacts and getting in before the agency.

To be fair she has a friend who does it and is going to speak to her about how it all works but she hasn’t been able to find the time and I’d like to be able to contribute something to the discussions rather than just saying “speak to XXX and see what they say”

Interesting regarding the PAYE, would make life a bit simpler.

Thanks everyone. Theres some useful names in there, including places that wouldn’t have come up if I had googled bike shops near Waterloo. Happy to take trip further into London if its somewhere worth visiting.

Will see how I get on

Acyuslkt, might have been a bit more but included the council doing the kerb. Either way it might be a bit high but not too far off. we found there was quite a difference in quotes and proposed methodology

Think we had about 5.5 x 3.5m, some new picket fence, a flower bed (but no planting) and disposal of all the rubbish (lots of concrete flags and assorted rubbish from the previous owners) for about £4,500. London/Surrey prices – Worcester Park

Made a play table for our 15 month old daughter for christmas after attended a woodwork evening glass at Sutton Grammar School. One side of the top in blue the other green so she can choose between sea and grass.

    She seems to like it

Full disclosure he’s a mate of mine and I’ve not used his services but Jon at Swift Cycles in Spitalfields used to do them.

Had this with my 105 5700 shifters.turned out I’d not got the cable ends in correctly, can be quite tricky if you’ve not done it before. It is the last hand shifter removing the little plastic cap on the side makes it easier

Here it is, finally finished. I blame having a 10 month old daughter for the delay

Shimano 105 5700, Deda post and stem, FSA omega compact bars and wheels and discs off a Boardman cx comp that I got a good deal from a fellow forumite on. Took it for it’s first outing today to work and back on a mix of road, parks and gravel and must say it was great fun, makes me want to ride like a hooligan!

These complete builds are looking nice. I’m so close to finishing mine, just cables and bar tape to go! Hoping to get it sorted by the weekend so I can take it out for a quick spin.

Off topic from the other discussions that are going on.
I’ve just put my 105 5700 levels on and correct me I’m being stupid but I’m going to need longer brake cables than the supplied ones aren’t I?

Does anyone had any recommendations for some reasonably priced ones?

Also, it’s Highways England not the Highways Agency if anyone cares

Very nice, am about to buy a stem and bars for mine and was looking at planet x. What ones did you go for and what size? Have never specced up a bike before, just ridden what I’m given. I’m 6’1″ but have fairly long arms so was thinking of going for a 110mm stem on my large frame

My parents have rehomed 2 over the years. One had been through several homes, hated cats and used to suffer from separation anxiety but was a loving, soft as you like dog. The other was abandoned by some travellers and before that kept in a pen where food was just thrown in. As such, he steals anything vaguely edible left out and has even broken into the breadbin and eaten a whole loaf. However he’s still young so is gradually getting better and again is as soft as you like. He is mental when off the lead though and my parents have taken to muzzling him as its easier than prizing squirrels, rabbits etc from his jaws. Their third lurcher they raised from a puppy, better behaved but no more loving and still mad as a box of frogs when he decides to tuck his tail and go for it. Also, as above, they all loved chasing the odd dear

Yeah, hope it works out. I’m supposed to be taking my build slow and sourcing cheap bits but did decide to rush order a seat post and headset to make sure it’s all OK. Currently waiting on the seat post but hopefully all good as have grown quite fond out it.

Its also not shown in the image on the wiggle website so reckon its a mystery piece that found it’s way into the box

That’s what I was thinking. Its smooth on the inside and the internal diameter fits over the steerer up until it tapers. The external diameter (excluding the lip) fits inside the lower bearing assembly. Was just confused as couldn’t work out where it went.

This is the piece (if I can work out how to post an image)

Actually not sure that works, it doesn’t seem to fit unless I’m being an idiot. Its a fairly thick black ring which then has a wide rim around it, probably 3 or 4mm wide. The only rubberised bit I can find is on the bottom of the domed bit which has “lifeline” written on it

Awesome, cheers guys. Have just packed the frame back up so will give that a go tomorrow. Didn’t think I should have spare bits and was surprised there wasn’t a parts list or installation instructions with it. Also, I’m sure all those bits have proper names but glad you knew what I meant

Possibly a stupid question but for those with the lifeline headset, did you end up with some leftover bits? Having a practice assembly, working from bottom to top I have:
The crown race (thin black split ring)
    The bottom bearing unit
    The corresponding top bearing unit
The top race (silver split ring)
The black domed thing with the writing on
    Star fangled nut
    Stem cap

I’m left with thicker black ring with a rim around it (best I can do description wise) and a thin silver washer in a separate bag. Any ideas where these go?

FWIW, looks like the bearings will go in with hand pressure

cool, sounds like the lifeline one will be fine then. I was just a bit concerned about what crashtestmonkey and then Brant wrote

As have I (what with not understanding headsets in the first place!)

Was all set to order the lifeline one but looks like that might cause me more problems…

Glad I’m not the only one who panicked when he saw the chainstays! Was thinking of going 105 myslef but picking up some second hand wheels with hubs that I think will only do 10 speed. Does anyone know if the new 105 shifter will work as 10 speeders if I fit a different cassette?

Mine arrived today and as said by someone earlier, it looks better in the flesh. Going to be building this up as a budget build (and my first time building from scratch). Will be on the look out for some cheap bits so planning on making the most of the classifieds sections in the near future. I’ll also no doubt be asking lots of “how to” and “what type” style questions in the near future

As an update and following some research into all the above we decided to stay in the UK so have booked a week at Court Farm near Bude in Cornwall. Thanks for all the suggestions and hopefully we’ll try one of them out next year

Understand what you’re saying about the pool but don’t really fancy camping. Would quite like to stay in a chalet or similar and am happy to have the other facilities and just not use them.

We have the Uppababy Vista and BeSafe izi Go car seat too.

The uppababy is bigger and heavier than some so if that’s going to be a problem it’s worth checking some others out. Best plan is to go to the shos with your car and try getting the demo versions in and out of the boot, it can be a bit of an eye opener! The wheels do come off the uppababy which we’ll do if we’re doing a long journey with lots of luggage but otherwise it fits flat in our boot with everything attached (Audi A3)

Having said that, 6 months in and my wife still says how happy she is with it. It wheels really nicely and the larger than normal basket is a bonus if you’re planning on doing lots of walking to nearby shops rather than just go in the car.

Basically, as someone above said, you can’t have everything and there’s always a compromise. We choose larger wheels and basket and sacrificed a bit of weight.

Our baby never really slept in the carrycot section when not on the buggy (or a moses basket for that matter), just decided she didn’t like them! All babies are different so just be prepared to buy loads of stuff just to see if there’s something that will help them (and therefore you) sleep! Hope you get one of the well behaved ones…

As for the car seat, we were all settled on the maxi-cosi but the shop also had the BeSafe which has a 5 point rather than 3 point harness and just seemed a bit more protective, personal opinion though and i think whatever you go for your baby will soon learn to hate being strapped in!

    Good luck with it all!

I was going to buy an autoform one from roofbox.co.uk but posted on here as g about them and turns out someone had one for sale for my exact model of car so bought that instead. Overall I’m very pleased with it and would happily pay full price for a new one. It fits well and has so far stopped the majorityof mud from the buggy wheels ending up in the carpet. Only thing I would say is they don’t have massive lips at the sides so might have to look elsewhere if that’s a concern

I thought the day was great, the atmosphere was better than I was expecting and according the the BBC website they reckoned 10,000 people turned up. They’ve got to be happy with that.
Our only critisim was that the beer tents were a bit rubbish, only 6 of the advertised beers were on and the staff were struggling to cope, mainly because they could have done with double the people. Still you can’t have everything!
All in all though, a top day and I hope it comes back next year
