Ek, ask Steve to stick the rigid fork and a 29er front wheel back on the Hummingbird. I've a sneaky suspicion it would suit ya better.

What are ye up to tomorrow? Fancy Tollie Path … one final big mountain-ish route left this year? Me, Bri, Ross and Plow are in.

    I miss my Mk1 17/22. Maybe I should buy a Mk2?

Just got my green jersey and t-shirt in the door. I'm 6' and about 190lb and the large is spot-on for me. I'm not so hot on the symbols for washing instructions … anyone know if the merinos can be machine washed?

I've run out of Stan's Solution, but have the bottle of latex from my car (it doesn't have a spare wheel, y'see). I'll never use it for the car, so will probably try it for sealing bike tyres.

    Anyone any experience of this?

I'd invent the mountain bike. When I was a lad they didn't exist … nor did BMXs (over here at least) for that matter.

Not sure if this is a wind up, but if not … I reckon you'll be okay.

TBH I rarely use a tyre as narrow as 2.1. Benefits of bigger volume tyres and softer compounds outweigh any disadvantages IMHO. Especially on the front.

Scruff … someone told me that Schwalbe Land Cruisers are just the job for all those things and will also hold a line offroad. Awfy cheap too.

I'm using a Mud-X on the rear of my 29er and it's working out really good. I have an ACX on the front. May be a good combo for winter.

I've also used both tyres in their 26" form and been ultimately disappointed with their lack of durability (3 x ACX and a Mud X all succumbed to rocks too quickly) but my rigid SS 29er doesn't get the same amount of hammering as my woodsy HT so it should be okay.

I'll not be in Stuartie_c. Forgot this is three weeks before a weekend in a lodge at Badaguish I have planned.

JojoA1, can you mention this to Matt please? I mailed him but it might be an old address.

I almost exclusively use these. Half of mine are from Wiggle, the rest from Krank Dirtwear.

I tend to use them when using flatties … fear of pin/shin. I also should wear them on big mountain days out. When I don't I invariably end up with bloodied shins or knees. Even when I've felt I've been in control (descending Carn Ban Mor) I've picked up scree which has whacked off my shin. It's not just about falling off.

Absolutely 100% truth. I would say all in their late teens and most were beautiful, some were jaw-drop stunning. And there's me in my 3/4 bib-knicks and Rab smock thinking I'd no bump into anyone on a Thursday in early October. Nowhere to hide really 😳

I'm the same height as you stonemonkey, but got the benefit of a quick turn on Gordymac's medium 5Spot. My large is spot-on (excuse the pun). I'm a medium in most bikes, however. Going on what I've owned I'm a large only in Turner and Santa Cruz frames.

See this German uber-totty thing … is there some grain of truth in the myth? I ask cos CrashGav and me came across (aye, I wish) a coachload of German honeys on the Slig path in Skye a couple of weeks back. Got me all flustered in my thermal lederhosen, so it did.

I'll check with my locals tomorrow.

Really awful weather here (East Ross), but Saturday is the family day for me anyway. Hopefully tomorrow will be nicer.

I've got an RP23 on my 2004 HL. I couldn't imagine it being better TBH. I've used a PUSHed RP3 and a PUSH Race Tuned Van RC on previous frames, but can see no advantage in PUSH tuning this time.

Justcruzin … as a person who has ridden one too short and broken a frame because of it I would never take any chances again. The brake on my Compo happened on a weld just above the top tube. I only use 410mm Thomsons now.

Carbon steerer … yer joking, right!

    Here's my tip … go for a 2006 Marzocchi Marathon or a Maverick SC32

What's with this ultralight obsession anyway Ek? You said the Reba was faultless so stick with it … it's a **** light fork …

… and while I'm at it, what's with all this extra cash to burn anyway? You dealing drugs or something?

    G'night … I'm getting grumpy.

The first Joe Murray designed steel Kona … was it not the breakthrough that most modern HTs are based on (I think)?

You pay 50% of RRP plus postage. My Kaos was a crash replacement for a Veleno. I probably need to crash replace the Kaos now tho as it's had the odd 'incident'.

I also have a newer Veleno and TBH it is slightly more comfortable on my head. I've used them for 3 or 4 years … ever since the models came out I think.

Why did you go for that model tankslapper? I've been using a 5 mode MCE P7 since last winter, but am considering buying a second one with credit I have with DX. I'm looking at this one tho http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22567 which is only $30.50.

I reckon it's sometimes appropriate to get involved in violence. Just because you wear lycra doesn't mean your not handy 🙄

I'm told I'm too positional tho.

I use a Twofish Lockblock with my Fenix L2D on my Met Veleno lid and it's really good.

Hey James. Personally can't see any point in a lockout on a fork, but I really do use compression damping adjustment.
