Cheers, thanks again for the replies, I am still undecided but will probably work on it tonight again.

Thanks for the replies so far! It’s a 6-bolt disc mount… Good idea with the washers on the hub but while I normally happily strip hubs (before use to grease them), I left this one alone as it’s a dynamo hub and looked more involved to get into, so don’t want to mess with washers (was also my first complete wheel build and don’t want to re-dish the wheel).

Apparently, you can go up and/or down by 1mm, see
    Spoke Calculator[/url] under ‘Info’.
Also make sure that you have the correct nipple length in your calculation.

What about a Seat Altea Freetrack 4, discontinued but only recently; I have a (FWD) Altea XL with the very economical VW 2.0 TDi engine and really like it.

    > What’s Munich like?
Very lovely, but also the most expensive city in Germany, some areas make London look cheap. Obviously close to the alps (60min drive) so good for long weekends cycling or skiing. Never lived there but have family and friends there. Considered one of the richer/posher areas in Germany. Sven

I lived there for the best part of three years, only returned to the UK last year.

    > I like the look, positioning of Santa Barbara anyone been or
Looks-wise, it’s very nice for American Standards, and it’s nicely positioned with the channel islands not too far away (the least-visited national park in the US, can only get there by ferry). The Santa Ynez Valley is famous for its wine and only 30min away. There is nothing that one has to have seen in Santa Barbara, but nevertheless – or even because of that – it’s a nice place to be, VERY relaxing. Be aware of the prices, Montecito, a part of SB where you are likely to bump into some Holywood ‘stars’, is the most expensive part of the US in terms of property prices, and hotels are not known to be cheap in SB either. Anyway, I would recommend going!

+1, unless you are aiming for a finish amongst the top 10 teams, hotels should not be allowed… Did it in 2000 when we slept one night in an ice skating ring (no ice there, of course, during the summer)

Hi Euan, no worries, had a close encounter with a car this morning on my commute, nothing happened but the driver was only aware of me once I tapped on his windows a couple of times in the last moment…

It’s one of the neatest ways for a Rohloff’ed bike to have an EBB and have the disc brakes between the seat and chain stays so that all cables can run along the downtube and the toptube is un-cluttered. And those seat and chain stays are lovely!

Codebauer is right and wrong… The BLZ IS the equivalent of the sort code, it's called Bankleitzahl. The Konto(-Nummer) is the account number. Commerzbank is obviously the name of the bank. Your bank here should be able to find out the IBAN for you, that is all that you should need (as it's made up partly of the BLZ/sort code and account number) to tranfer money within Europe; it's also the easiest and cheapest way to transfer money. Otherwise, just ask bike-components.de for their IBAN unless they have an UK bank account as Codebauer suggests.

Another vote for Lenovo laptops, formerly IBM, go for the X or T range, depending on what size screen you want, and you will have bought yourself one of the best and sturdiest laptops, if not THE best available.
I saw people standing on their Lenovo laptop, I dropped mine multiple times, still got one of the older X61 here but would happily go for the X200/X300 model if you want something small. Sven

Had three Sweeps/Sweep XCs in a row and normally don't bother putting the peak on and off and just leave it off most of the times, they have no function really, and do you really look so much cooler with a peak?

I lived there for three years, only came back to the UK last summer. There are some great trails in the front country (the hills/mountains you see from the coast), only drawback is that there are only two trails that you can ride uphill, Romero Canyon being the better one near Montecito, La Jesuita (?) closer to downtown. If you drive by car over the first set of hills/mountains, you come after 30 or 45min drive to the back-country around Paradise road, there are some of the best trails I have ever ridden, Little Pine Moutain probably my favorite, 2.5hrs uphill followed by almost an hour of downhill. I am away from today on but ask if you have more specific questions, I'll try to check the forum. Sven

Just discussed a similar question with my solicitor recently (and I did not bother reading all the replies above); the bank – of course – only gives you a certain percentage of the value of the house, say in your case 85%. If you then re-negotiate with the seller a reduced price that is not more than 5% lower than the originally agreed price, the solicitor does not need to pass this price onto the bank, hence you can use the money you saved on your deposit towards the renovation, but you will get a different mortgage if you get more then 5% off. Nice pictures, Rob, and also yours, yoshimi, are great. Thanks to all the marshals and volunteers, they made it a great weekend. I would very much hope (and think) that results will be posted on the STW website later on…

Very nice, I actually recognise quite some places from various alps crossings in the past, but from a time when cantilevers were standard and front suspension luxury… Best part were always the dinners once one had crossed into the Italian side of the alps.

I have a road bike with Centaur and can't fault it; main thing is that the cable routing looks a lot nicer with Campag, and a Bianchi road bike surely 'goes better' with a Campag group.

Thanks again, chaps, it won't hurt to contact Silverfish but I am not hopeful given that I ground off the tabs (not that this should affect the locking mechanism) and the cranks are indeed lower-spec Evolve XC. RaceFace wins for looks every time, but I somehow don't think this would happen to Shimano cranks that easily, I prefer their 'ahead-set'-style clamping mechanism.

Thanks for your input so far! Yes, I did grind the granny tabs off as I was using the cranks with a selfmade Excentriker bottom bracket at one point and now on a bike with Rohloff hub so no need for the granny.
I bought the cranks new in 2007 but can't recall the orange rubber ring, they worked fine for the last 3 years and only started coming loose last week for the first time. Good to know about the lifetime warranty!

From what you say you won't need 12 month to train, I considered myself reasonably fit when I decided to do an Ironman 10 years ago (but with far less training than you seem to do at the moment already) and did four month of 'specific' training, never looked in a training book or similar.

I am surprised to hear that you can get 29er bikes with chainstays as short as 16.5" (419mm), but it's good to know. Most 'normal' bikes have around 425mm, the 29er on-one fleet has 444mm (anyone know whether this is with the wheel fully in or halfway through the dropouts), and the longer chainstays have always been something that would put me off 29er's as surely it makes it harder to get them around tight bends, but your geometry should take care of that. Very nice bike anyway.

I think it says somewhere on the on-one website that BB7s won't fit, neither will XTR BTW if I remember correctly. I am running SLX brakes, XT will fit, too, and most other brakes, it's mainly the two at the top that cause problems. You may also not be in luck with the 140mm rotor, I am running 160mm, as bigger, as easier to fit, but 140mm may be pushing it a bit, but I haven't tried.

We would like to ask you not to return any non-disc-wheels with oil leaking problems during the summer season.

Please inform the customer that leaking oil does not damage the hub, in fact we guarantee that hubs run perfectly well and without causing any damage for more than 1 year or more than 5000 km. We recommend an oil change after that period but mainly to fill up on oil, not because the old oil would cause any damage.

In fact, oil leaks tend to 'mend' themselves after some time. We ask for your understanding that during the Summer seasons, we only have time to service really serious faults on the hubs to keep our turnaround times short.

Please check on your hub whether all housing screws (8) and axles screws (5 or 6 depending on type) are present and tight, and whether the oil changing set screw is tight. Please let us know if the hub leaks on the cog side. In that case we'll send you a screw with a solid sealing-gel around that should seal the leak.

In case of DB hubs… (do you have one for a tandem? probably not, so I skip that bit).

For non-disk hubs that may still be leaking by autumn/winter, we will of course offer our services, as always quick and mostly free of charge :)

    Hope that helps a bit
    Sven
