Were they from an American fabricator that is no longer selling them?

    Look familiar?

old thread, but for interest – max radius pletschers R80 over vee speedsters 29×2.8:

Welcome to the massive mudguard club 👍

    What do you think then?

I’ve since modified mine slightly and by modified I mean took an angle grinder to then and lopped bits off.

I’ve removed the “cable channels” on the inside face of the guards as I’d never use them. Takes a bit of weight out of them as well.

Maybe don’t be hasty to write-off all lock-ons. My various Ergon grips are still the most comfortable of all grips I’ve tried. Now with wings…

    ymmv

    This for me…

I tried some of the ODI longnecks on the back of the other thread. Came straight off and put the ergons back on.

every grip seems to be comfortable when the cockpit ergonomics are on point.

    Nailed it

Thankfully this thread reminded me my passport had run out last year as I’d agreed an Alps trip in four weeks.

Online application was a doddle, sent in my old passport and two days later it’s approved and on its way inside of a week 👍

It won’t reduce reach, that’s from BB, it will reduce effective top tube length. Think of it as seated reach if you have to.

I was actually quite impressed with the announcement to let HK residents come here.

Rather than the portrayal given in the posts above I see it as standing up to the bully and saying no.

But hey. We all need our cheap plastic tat. So let’s turn a blind eye and let China imprison anyone believing in democracy or just anyone for anything for that matter as that is essentially what the new law allows.

Also. If in the future after we’ve been invaded by the Chinese, they happen to read this and trace it back to me. It was my neighbor who typed it. He always was a filthy freedom lover. I’m a good little Comrade.. Honest.

Modern machine based forestry work is a looming nightmare for sneaky trials I believe.

It leaves such a massive mess with all the brash intertwined and compacted that it’ll take more than a couple of pixies to find the trails that used to be under it all.

We’ve lost a few trails of late at my local and I honestly can’t see how I’d go about starting to revive the trails..

    Makes me sad.

Makes me even sadder that they don’t even make money on what they sell.

I’d say just replace the worn chainring for now or if your replacing the chainset as recommended above, which can sometimes be cheaper ( still find this a bit mad) be sure to check that it is suitable for your bottom bracket axle length.

Different chainsets have different offsets hence the various lengths of bottom bracket available to keep the correct chainline. You can find this info on manufacturers sites as it’s not always displayed on retail sites.

Don’t be into much of a rush to get dragged into upgrading to the latest and greatest too soon. You’ve just started, it’s an entry level bike and your more likely to upgrade to a nicer bike later on if you get into as much as us mugs!

    All best and enjoy.

As above though. X5 works fine. Nothing wrong with it.

I think new 9sp from sram in the UK only goes up to X5 now. This is all the UK distributers list as available and has been for awhile.

I guess I was really asking the question of whether tall people find short chainstay bikes a little unbalanced

    Yes, I do…

Only realised this with my last few frames and now only buy if the chainstays are suitably long enough to match the rest of the bike.

As above. Massive increase in demand plus most stuff is on 90 day lead times. Non one could of predicted this so it takes awhile to catch up.

Distributers we use are saying August for most stuff. We even can’t get hold of some of the basics like innertubes, tyres, chains etc… All gone….

I think that’s down to the rotors, not the pistons

Oh yeah. My bad. Ignore my original post.

    survivor

Worth a try for experimental purposes 😂 but deores recommend resin pads only as they do not have the same pistons as slx and above. Could result in over heating on big descents with sintered pads.

Your done for now Spaceman… The forum Stasi have tasted blood and won’t rest until you’ve confessed your crimes.

Wait for dark then see if you can make a run for it past the guard post…

What you’ve done there is ask about a reliable brake but then go and buy the cheapest!

We buy those in, in a set, with rotors for about £30… They look the part and I happily fit them to low use bikes but I wouldn’t recommend them for serious use. The pistons look like some cheap metal and rarely move equally together always one sticky one.

Your riding loaded up which means they’ll heat up and fade quicker.

I hope they work out for you but I think the following will apply.

You get what you pay for

    And

    Buy cheap, buy twice

my mum had similar symptoms on her bike so i bought this cheap high rise/swept back handlebar and it seems to have done the trick – no more tingly feeling

    +1

This guy comments on the exact problems you’ve mentioned with bar sweep being a big factor. Might take a couple of goes to find her sweet spot (fnar) with the sweep but worth the effort.

Are you still buying bikes that don’t fit you? seriously?

That’s because the people who make bikes don’t make them to fit everyone. They make them to fit Mr Average…. Good for you being average and all…

    OP
I’ve got two 9point8 Fall Lines as well. Pricey (although they did reduce them recently) but good bits of kit.

If SRAM are lying they’ll be doing it by adding at least five superfluous sub-lies just like they do with sub-components.

This. In the attempt to get you to spend more…

I’d split if given the chance.

The back will definitely sell as these take the most punishment so are usually in more demand. If someone is offering to buy the front, go for it. You’ll not have trouble shifting the rear.

I replace a lot more rear wheels than fronts at work.

Our shop has been nearly cleaned out and our suppliers have nothing left as well… We’ve never been this busy before.

Only thing left is kids bikes really as I guess they can’t roam about as much.

I think there were a couple of models, a high and a low one. But it has been a while since I used a double chainring.. Photo would help.

This. You’ve probably got the wrong mech. You’ll have the one meant to work with bigger chainrings.
Look up the model number on https://si.shimano.com and it tell you in the specs.

What we *have* found out though is that local government / enterprise partnerships have some money and we have applied for a grant (only small, about £3k) to go towards the work we have done.

Place I work recently got similar money to loan bikes to NHS staff and Carers. We quickly ran out of what we had to offer from our own supply so this has helped us buy more to help out..

    I’m thinking you’ve got rose tinted spectacles…

I noticed recently how much longer my five tens seem to last now compared to the earlier shoes. Let’s be honest these shoes take a beating and I’m sure they hold up to it better now and I do more riding than when the first shots came out…. Just my experience though

They were a lot cheaper back then but this just reminds me of my grandma complaining how much a cup of tea costs nowadays so I think I’m just getting old!

I got mixed up with your post before and thought you meant seatstay bridge. I couldn’t picture how you’d used the bracket up there 😂 my mistake…. That why I posted my invention above.

I used a p-clip for the chainstay bridge with some spacers and a long bolt to adjust it back

(I hate cleaning this bike. I think it looks cooler with a coating of filth😂)

I assumed the steel bracket that came with the 75u was for me to align and drill where needed. I had to do this with all of the brackets with the Plestchers do just thought these were the same.

Are you running the 75u rear with no seatstay support then? Does it not flap about a bit just being held at chainstay and rear stays?

If so you could use a p-clip for the chainstay bridge then use the metal bracket for a similar setup to mine on the seatstays by drilling and securing it. If your going to do that I used stainless M4 threaded rod and nuts going through the M5 frame mounts as M5 wouldn’t screw from one side to the other as the mounts aren’t welded parallel, it bound up! The nut and bolt holding the bracket to the threaded rod is a “normal” mudguard stay bolt that has a hole through it if that makes sense. This has been a solid setup for me…

Slightly off topic and I’m sure the locals may know about this but seeing the name reminded me of a great book and accompanying album that’s set in Cragg Vale..

The Gallows Pole by Benjamin Myers

And a group was set up by friends of the author with music inspired by the book. They are great. Seen them twice now….

    The Shinning Levels

That is all. Carry on 😀

I can’t picture how you’ve used the light bracket. I’ve got a 2015 longitude and came up this, which has been surprisingly effective.

I’ve shown you mine now you show me yours 😂

Nice one cheers… But in conclusion… Sod that… I’ll stick them on eBay… Can’t be bothered to even try if it requires chasing extra bits and the dreaded flex….

To be honest I felt guilty when I remounted the front plestcher guard. Like I was about to cheat on them or something 😂

I’ve also got a longitude and noticed it was tight on the front with the sks.. Weird as the Plestcher is wider but fits better with more clearance and I’m using a 29×2.6 as well. I think it’s to do with the mounting bracket. I had to align and drill them where I wanted them rather than the fixed one on the sks…

Glad you got them working for you though 👍

The Pletscher gaurds are still going strong but curiosity eventually got the better of me and I bought a set of the 75u long as the weight difference would be noticeable over the pletscher.

Instantly like you found the suggested front stay is too short! Bizarre..

I can’t be arsed faffing and swapping each one to see what works or I’ll be on all day…

Did you eventually get these set up?

Get this a lot on bikes we recycle at work.

Quickest and easiest way is to heat the crank up with a gas torch if you’ve got one. A few tippy taps and off it comes.

This has never failed me. Works every time and takes minutes.

Edit. Didn’t read last your last post there but congrats.

It will never happen, but I think a few things need to happen in the housing market…
No second+ homes in the UK, closing all dodgy loopholes such as house #3 is “owned” by second son Jack, aged 6
No private renting of complete UK homes and getting an income/living off other people’s need/right to have a home over their heads, with the exception of spare room bedsits in the same home as landlord
Almost all UK higher education students must be accomodated in student halls of residence provided by the uni they are enrolled with, with exception of those in bedsits

Just in Southampton alone, the number of available basic but liveable and really affordable homes for keyworkers would go through the roof.

    You’d get my vote sir….

I recently looked at the local council housing list. 22 properties available to cover the whole county….. Unbelievable..
