Rimmer: Let’s get tough. The time for talking is over. Call it extreme if you like, but I propose we hit it hard and hit it fast with a major — and I mean major — leaflet campaign, and while it’s reeling from that, we’d follow up with a {whist} drive, a car boot sale, some street theatre and possibly even some benefit concerts. OK? Now, if that’s not enough, I’m sorry, it’s time for the T-shirts: “Mutants Out” … “Chameleonic Life Forms, No Thanks” … and if that’s not enough, well, I don’t know what will be.

I have stretched/deformed tyres before. I think it was when they were tubeless and I punctured/burped them. Would never go back to normal. One of them would strangely puncture a tube each time I tried despite being thorn free. Binned that one. Lived with the others.

Your choice if you get your money’s worth out of it and put up with the wobble(can’t say it bothered me when riding, just looked odd) or bin it.

The box is the relay that bypasses the ecu so you don’t have to reprogram it. Older cars don’t need this.

I just disconnected my reversing sensors as I trust my spacial awareness! (bound to reverse into something now I’ve typed that)

Not sure of the all the reasons etc and we’ll done for trying, those who were involved but from what I’ve experienced with regards to Innerleithen when the project seemed to be getting off the ground was never going to help.

The available DH tracks were reduced in number.

The uplift cost increased, run amounts dropped from 10 to 8 i think and turnaround times lengthened. ( ie do your run then wait 30 mins to get back on bus to the top)

For me it started to become not worth the effort to go as the track choice was limited, uplift slow and not enough runs.
I miss riding DH at inners but each time I think of going I talk myself out of it for the above reasons. I’m not the only one who thinks this and I assume numbers dropped dramatically that were needed to make this look good to investors.

I think they’d of been better off with a nice smooth uplift road and faster and more frequent uplifts and a more varied choice of routes back down.

Oh and enduuro!!! Everything’s enduuro fault.

You could do half a DIY job like I did.

Fit the tow bar yourself as it’s quite satisfying then take it to a local auto electrics garage to wire in the socket. Think I paid about £35.

My Sherpa runs the same HA I think. No complaints from me

Absolute weapon on the descents and no issues with cornering. Can wander a little when climbing but who cares about that!

I don’t live in teeside but ride guisbourgh woods plus moors quite often. Plenty to keep you happy there and a very active locaks scene. Not much trail centre type stuff but the place is covered in natural trails then there’s all the xc stuff over the moors. Hamsterley is maybe an hour away and has good trail centre stuff, plenty of sneaky stuff and dedicated uplifted DH tracks. Lakes and even Scottish Borders are doable for early start day trips.

Stockton/middlesbourgh is very flat but has very good cycling infrastructure with plenty of dedicated cycling paths.

Road stuff I don’t do personally but have friends over that way who get out on them often enough. Your soon on quiet country roads and can make loops to head over to dales/county durham depending on mileage.

Had some good advice off someone who spent a lot of money trying to fix tinnitus. You can’t basically but have to learn to accept it and ignore it! not what your wanting to hear I know but the process works similar to cognitive behavioral therapy. Change your reaction to it and it has less effect on you.

I followed his advice and it does work. I can now almost tune in and out of it. It’s always there but I try not to react to it.

I had a similar problem last year with a particular tyre. Turned out I’d stretched/damaged the bead/casing of the tyre.

I’m guessing it allowed the tube to move inside causing it to puncture every time I used it. Binned tyre. Been fine ever since using the same tube and rim.

Mines in bits and has sat unused since I got a stanton sherpa. Can’t decide if I’ll be getting rid of it or building it back up.

loved it and wrung it’s neck for five years and it refused to die. Might have to give it a few more goes in honour of its greatness and to make my mind up.

Could be you just haven’t put the wiper seal back in firm enough. Had similar issue in a set of Reba’s I did for someone.

Give them a good hammering down with a suitably sized socket or something else that will fit over it.

I use both. The park is a bit overpriced fot what it is.

I’d say they have similar levels of stability, the clamp is easier to use on the x tools but the park would probably stand up to more use.

Personally I’d get the x tools for home use. It’s Surprisingly well made and the fold up design does occasionally come in handy.

I think the only real difference is the free stroke adjustment screw(which doesn’t seem to do anything! ) and a pad retention bolt instead of a split pin.

I’ve got both. Can’t tell the difference. Get the slx I’d say and save a few quid. :-)

I’m not convinced any brakes are particularly bomb proof as such. Once the newness has gone out of them. Seals wear, pistons get scored, shit gets stuck inside.

This was a bit of a shitter when they cost over a hundred an end but you can get both ends and discs for that now. Shame shimano don’t do spares as it’s a bit wasteful but replacing parts if the system is pretty cheap now. I’ve just paid about the same for a deore caliper with pads as I have for a seal and piston kit in the past.

Anyway, have you tested for leaks at all? lever going soft after a bleed could be a sign of this?

    survivor
    Full Member

Good points above. Didn’t notice you said the lever feels good.

    survivor

    Bad bleed or Possibly leaking?

clean everything off then elastic band the lever on. Leave it overnight then inspect for leaks around lever, cables, pistons.

if no leaks have another go at bleeding. Could still be air or dirt in there.

I’ve just had to buy two new calipers due to leaky pistons on 6 month old deores and this is how I discovered the problem.

Love my Sherpa but I’ll take a wild guess that the OP’s frame delivery got bumped as they are in Italy according to their website. .. if so. Unlucky fella.

There’s a good point. My latest addition is a 2015 Genesis Longitude for tootling about and possible future excursions. Again I went for this so I’ve got wheels and tyres that will swap with my Stanton Sherpa.
Annoyingly genesis have made this year’s longitude 650+ with an alloy fork so if you see a 2015 as I did, Snap it up.

Opps thought you meant the old 29er was being retired to distance riding and the new was for being rad! Either way stay 29 and just pick geometry to suit what it’ll be doing. :-)

    survivor
    Full Member

At your size I’d say stay big wheels. Plenty of Hardtails with slacker geometry in 29 that’ll also take 650+ if you feel the need. Also slacker short travel fs 29ers are finally with us as well.

I’m 6″2 and only recently went big wheels. Can’t see why I’d downsize now. I’ve only the noticed benefits of big wheels for us taller folk. Can’t say I’ve noticed any downsides to be honest.

Stay 29 and then you’ll have wheels and tyres that will easily swap around if needed.

Even with branded ones they can and do fail leading to data loss.

Remember to back up your data manually or use cloud backup.

I forgot to do mine for awhile then sods law the card died and I lost a lot of photos :(
