Can’t imagine it really makes any difference other than giving the kit maker some money.

Used a protec bike lid a few times snowboarding and crashed loads and didn’t die. Was fine but I wore a thin motorbike balaclava under it to keep the chill out as well.

Lovely bit of kit. Easy to setup, smooth action and looks good.

Got mine with a 9point8 seatpost.

    only a 2 year warranty.

3 years for 2018 frames so they are getting there slowly.

Yeah fair enough. I’ve never used XD yet but if it was mine I still probably wouldn’t bother though.

I don’t think survivor read the thread, sounds like he’s talking about lubing the sprockets, not the splined interface.
    Clearly this.

    Clearly not!

You lot are suggesting greasing the freehub/cassette interface, yeah?

Waste of good grease as far as I’m concerned.

Park tool Blue Book recommends greasing the lockring threads. No mention of grease on freehub/cassette of Shimano or XD.

There is a small amount of movement in this interface so it should never sieze on due to corrosion.

Only time I’ve had trouble removing a cassette was because of this

Only when it’s really right. Cassettes are not tight enough to need it. You may struggle to remove a cassette but that’s cos it’s an alu freehub and the sprockets have dug into the splines

Not once in all my years have I even thought about greasing a cassette.

It’s extremely open to the elements and will attract grit and dirt and then most likely be gone on the first wash.

    Why bother.

Ahhh but the smokers are getting a good nicotine hit which will then double their productivity for the next six minutes thus cancelling the initial six minutes out.

    Case closed.

Yeah I paid mine with a pair of Aldi waterproof socks and have been doing fine on the short commute in.

Good call crog….. I might buy a few different ones of that type to try.

Amazing how sticking an MTB branded logo on these things suddenly makes them £20+ more expensive

Last time I got some it was a specific “mountain bike” special buy.

Haven’t seen one since so hopefully one will come round soon enough.

Oh yeah I forgot about the spesh post. My recent search had me wanting 150+ drop so it fell to the 9point8.

I’ve also got a 100mm drop KS eten on my rigid 29er. £55 or something from a German eBay shop. Bargain for what it is but heavy and a bit slow. Not complaining for the cash.

The KS dropzone( that I’ve replaced with the 9point8) I’ve had for years with near faultless performance. These can be had for £100+ in places. “Only” 125mm drop but did me. Lighter and quicker return than the eten.

Are these the normal cotton style gloves your all on about? I can only see some neoprene ones listed on the site.

Love them and am desperate to stock up.

You’ve not many options here I’m afraid. I’ve always ran the cheaper KS posts due to the same problem but they only go up to 125mm drop.

I’ve recently splashed out on a 175mm 9point8 and very nice it is as well.

Sorry but I beat you to this snacking invention some years ago.

Love the stuff but I’ve some bad news/interesting trivia.

It contains a small amount of cyanide 8O

I believe you have to eat about 35kg in one go to poison yourself though. So long as you keep below this you’ll be fine.

Robert Llewellyn covered this topic recently on his fully charged channel on YouTube.

He was pretty unimpressed by the supposed “facts” used to produce the figures.

    B screw?

Might need winding in if it’s too close to the cassette.

    I concur….

You killed it during the watering part.

Laptops unlike flora and fauna do not require water to operate.

Skip this step with your next one.

I got the skyline thinking the low down weight thing would be great.

Reality is I didn’t notice the slight bit difference to my normal one. Nice bag though.

I know it’s early days of these things and potential is huge especially when it gets to the Von Neumann Probe stage. In the mean time though it appears they are only usefully for printing loads of plastic tat you don’t really need.

Well there we go. It had to be something.

    Thanks for the info.

I’m a filthy vaper with asthmatic allergy reactions to mainly animal hair, cheap dilute orange and some vape flavours! The animal one is fairly normal I guess but I find the other two a bit odd.

I can toot away on most flavours but I’ve had the odd one that cause the same symptoms as OP.

Ask her to change flavours. I’ll bet that sorts it.

Be cheap like me and put on a pair of the latex/non latex workshop gloves under your normal riding gloves. Works surprisingly well.

He said shallow skill set , firefighting and upskill and no one even noticed.

My son is friends with his and i used to know him – he does not remember me- from back when we BMX ed – his dad built the track.

No idea what he does as he aint going to be telling me
    Cool story eh.

    Fascinating. Thanks for sharing :-)

Liking the sound of this acf50 stuff. Might try a tin. Got a few stuck seatposts in frames at work I’d like to shift.

As fun as the macavalanche is you won’t be knackered. Think I totaled about 25 minutes actual riding time this year so definitely plan other riding if your making a long trip.

Thinking about it, it wasn’t that I couldn’t get hold of 50mm backer rod, it was more that I didn’t realize until I’d already got the 30mm stuff off ebay.

If you have wide rims, probably worth the upgrade and it’s still not gonna bankrupt you:

    https://www.dortechdirect.co.uk/polyethylene-foam-backer-rod-50mm-circular.html

How did the 30mm work for you. I only run up to 2.3/2.4 tyres on not that wide rims. I’m thinking the 50 would be overkill.

The site you linked has it in all sizes but I guess the 30,40 and 50mm ones are the choice.

love digging. It used to be my crew spent easily as much time making trails as riding them.

Now I’m into pedaling as well as just doing DH type runs so the balance has tipped a bit but yeah I’m looking forward to making some new tracks for next summer.

A local plantation we used to ride in years ago has been mostly felled this year but they haven’t touched it in months and haven’t replanted. I don’t know whether to chance it and start digging at the risk that they’ll be back again. It’s a great bit of land for a 2 – 3 minute DH run especially with all the stumps and root plates laying about atm, I’m itching to get the shovel on it!

I’d leave it awhile to see what they do. Forestry commission usually leave it to settle for awhile before replanting ( don’t know for certain, just what I’ve noticed)

Just had my first little session of the year today as it happens. Went to a trail I never finished and started on opening it up. Got a few ideas for other trails I’ll have to get started on…..

    Build on brothers :-)
