    Rubbish!

4th Cats set off in a small bunch at a fast pace. strung out in heavy winds. I fell off the back within a lap, with heavy legs from the hilly Sunday ride, and soloed my way around the course for the remaining hour. The 3/4cat bunch the previous week was easier to hold onto.

I'll be back again next year though :) (ramaining race of this year is a 2/3/4 and pointless me even making the start line)

EDIT: This was a good read. I can really relate to it :)

Pembrey circuit Handicap race for me tonight. Only my second ever circuit race. Hoping to stay with the bunch longer than the 7 laps I managed last time. Wind and rain forecast though, and if you know Pembrey, you know it's VERY exposed.

Would love to see a Wiggo offensive today. Contador looked weak the other day but Andy Schleck looked full of awesome. Could be interesting.

I had one lf those Rutland 08 frams and I encounterd a problem with the cable guide. My thread on the subject is here: http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/orange-st4-cable-routing-question and I can confirm that Orange were exemplary in their handling of the situation and replaced the rear stays for 2010 versions for free without question. If it *is* a crack, drop them a line and send some photos. I expect you will get the same great level of service which I did.

PS, Great choice of bike. I adore mine.

Interested in getting started but first problem is the entry level being so high. I've been doing club 10s for a couple of years now and progressing nicely into the middle of the table for our club. A couple weeks ago I popped along to Pembrey to try a closed circuit race. It was a Cat 3/4 and I figured I could probably just about hold the bunch. I lasted 6 or 7 of the 14 laps until I was eventually spat out the back. This was partially to do with me not being confident in the bunch and slipping back until at the back and the concertina effect killed me, but It was still damned hard. A friend said the problem with road racing is that you have to be good to be crap! Too true.

I must have lucked into a good club though as its really friendly and they do everything from 10s 25s and 3 mile hill climbs to weekly varied ability Sunday club runs and mid week chaingangs. A few race on weekends and some of them came 2nd in the Ras de Cymru last week.

Do I go back to Pembrey and try and hang onto the bunch again tomorrow night? It's a handicap this week rather than a 3/4 so should start slower but pick up as the groups merge? No sign of my race license yet though. I've payed and the BC website says I have one, but I don't fancy shelling out a tenner for a day license when I've already got one.

Oh I'll definitely get the HRM and cadence. I dod club TTs and started circuit racing recently so I will make use of the sensors and data.

I took a punt (fantasy tdf) on Jurgen Van Den Broeck to be the Belgian of the day but he didn't make the break. 2 team mates did though.

My money is on Jurgen Van Den Broeck to make a break for it. Belgian rider on a Belgian team going for glory on home turf. Well I hope so for the sake of my fantasy tdf team anyway!

I had this issue with an XT hub. On closer inspection the freehub was hosed. I've also experienced the missing spacer issue with 10sp 105 cassettes but you know this is loose before you even set off, rather than working lose during a ride.

I re-started blogging recently. You are probably best off with the cycling specific blog unless you are interested in PHP development too:

I tried a circuit race last night. Pembrey 3/4 cat. Stayed in for 7 of 13 laps before getting shelled. Not bad for a fat bloke on a cross bike. Might get a race license now and try the handicap race in a couple weeks.

Is it OK to put a Nuun type tablet into an energy drink like PSP22 or will there be some sort of countering effect? I need the carbs and sugars to stop me bonking but I'm all for replenishing salts aswell. Would make a high powered GO if it worked.

Coom Rye-a-der is my closest approximation. Not ridden it yet, despite it's proximity but I know it's a Rowan Sorrel design. Is a single climb and descent totalling about 7Km. Videos I've seen show it to be quite smooth and flowy. Looks fun

busier for me but that was because I left late and had to go to town to pick up the car and drop something off while I was there. headwind meant that 22MPH felt slow but good to spin my legs and get a sweat on after a few jars last night. hilly 22 mile TT tonight too.

There's many options for mapping GPS on the iPhone. Several support OS maps at 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 as well as other formats. Search around a little on here for in depth threads. Multi tasking in iOS4 now allows me to switch to the camera to take a quick photo without having to pause the GPS now too.

I wanted to. I loved cadets (ATC) but eventually the freedoms offered to a young 17 year old boy took over and I didn't do so well on my A levels. My life took a different turn towards being an outdoor pursuits instructor. Later I went on to Uni a few years after my mates and now I jocky a keyboard and mouse. I did look into entering a few years ago when my job was at risk but by then I was 30 and most of the decent jobs were off limits. Guess I'll just have to learn to fly on my own time and money now instead. how hard can it be to get type-approved on a BAe
    Hawk?!

    This is odd.

I mainly use mine off road on rocky singletrack and have no problems at all at 70PSI. I'm 13 stone if that matters. I'd be pinch flatting every 5 minutes with less than 50 PSI on them. Conti themselves recommend 58PSI.

    http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle/ti%20speedkingcross.shtml

35 PSI on this sort of terrain? madness I say.

I may have been wrong with my assumption of 100PSI for road use. I think I'm confusing my road wheelset there. I read the max inflation from the sidewall and inflated to that when I was using speed kings on road. So 85PSI by the looks of it

Off road! Well 70 off road and 100 on road

nickc 50PSI is indeed a stupidly low pressure to be running. I run my Speed Kings at 70 – 100 PSI depending on conditions.
