Many reasons to upload photos you don’t want people to see:

    1) to share with members of your family which you can configure within Flickr.

    2) to display on websites of my choosing as hotlinked images but not to appear on my photostream

    3) for backup purposes. I pay for a pro flickr account and I like the fact that I have an offsite backup of my private photos

I wore SPDs and finished mid pack somewhere I think. Results aren’t up yet (aside from the prize winning positions). Mounting and dis-mounting only occured twice per lap and I managed to do both on the move without any practice. Not sure my method was an approved cyclocross mount/dismount but it worked for me.

Dismount: swing right leg over back of bike but keep left foot clipped in until you roll up to the obstacle then unclip and run.

Mount: run with bike on ground and hands on the tops of the bars, and just jump onto the pedals. Start peddling. Clip in when you can.

Just went to the Aberystwyth branch and there weren’t any there either! Anyone know what brand they are so I can have a looksee online?

Well I never got it out of the little ring. 36:12 was more than adequate for the faster sections. I’m sure if you were a monster you could big ring it around but I stuck to prety much 1 gear for the hour.

10 pints of lager seemed to do the trick. Started at the back and worked my way up gradually. Obveiously got lapped by number of riders, not sure how many times in total but I Was lapping at about 6:50. No idea on final position but I wasn’t last and that’s all I was hoping for.

Great fun this cross lark, I’ll be back for more.

And now I’ve decided to throw a few pints into the mix by going out to watch the rugby in the pub tonight. Just to make things difficult for myself tomorrow!

Bars look like they need rotating back upwards towards the rider a little. Otherwise, very nice :)

change your password to a more secure one, then change any other websites which you used the old password on too. Your old password was insecure and was guessed or beaten brute-force.

Happened to me on xmas day last year and as a software engineer I should have known better. I slapped myself on the wrists and learnt a valuable lesson.

Oh and an apology email to your contacts might be a good idea

I’m doing my first on Sunday at Crickhowell School. First event of the season in the South Wales league. Can’t wait to give it a go, but I’m not expecting much. If I’m not last I’ll be happy.

I’ve never once tried to mount and dismount quickly or on the move. Should prove ‘interesting’. No idea what the course is like. Should I expect steps, boards, bombholes etc?

About to race my first cross race on Sunday so I’l tel you how I get on with 36/50 and 12-25. I don’t feel like there’s any holes in the ratios on road though so should be OK.

Yup I bought a 50t ring for the front so now I’m running 36/50 front and 12-25 rear. It’s got me up everything except the hard side of Bwlch y Groes and that was my legs rather than gearing failing if I’m honest. I can hit 35MPH easy in a flat sprint, probably more. Once over 40MPH on the down hills I find it faster to tuck in and stop pedalling anyway.

I posted this yesterday on another forum but it’s all still valid here:

I see the Cyclocross card has already been played but can I just re-itterate what a fantastic choice of bike they are for general purpose riding. They are much lighter than a mountain bike yet will happily ride down the same mountains, albeit slightly slower. They will also eat up road miles with relative ease. a Hybrid is similar but generally not somewhere you want to spend hours in the saddle.

This last season I’ve been commuting between 5 and 40 miles each way depending on how much time I had.

Racing Closed circuit races and town centre criteriums (I’m the fatty, far right)

Out riding cross country here in the Camrbain mountains

Been out to recce the Dyfi Enduro ‘World Cup Descent’ the day before the event. What you can’t see in this photo is I was wearing brown loafers, chinos shirt and no helmet with SPD pedals!

Competed in a full season of club 10, 12 and hilly 22 mile time trials

An 88 mile and a 103 mile Sportive

I can not express enough what a great all-round bike this is. In my case it’s a 2010 Kona Jake the Snake RRP 1025 quid, but the Kona Jake can be had new for closer to 500 and there’s always the tricross and many other capable bikes in this variety.

Cheeers guys. Saw these on Wiggle yesterday. Anything else out there before I head off to the LBS to see what they've got?

I'm still using what I think is a 3/4 ultralite thermarest. It's brown/green and packs to a stuff sack the size of… actually I can't think of any thing similar in size and shape. I'd say a cylinder 270mm long, 15mm diameter ish. It's kept me very comfortable bivying, camping on snow or in hot dry summers. Not looked into newer versions but I'm sure there are some. I'd definiltey buy Thermarest again though after using it professionally for 8 months solid in the Canadian Rockies and many many times since (up to 15 years later. It's still perfect)

I've got a Paramo Velez Adventure smock and I wore it last winter for MTB but really it was far too hot. I was looking at getting an Endura Stealth for commuting, road and MTB this year. I thought it would be cooler than the Paramo.

Just got back from Nant-yr-Arian and managed to see 7 over an hour or so. Not had a chance to process anything from the camera properly but here's a pre-edited RAW straight from the camera

Lots of repetition but they were good times for me too.

Flown aerobatics whilst in control of an aircraft.
Shot a variety of rifles, shot guns and semi-automatic military weapons
Led 5 day white water canoe expeditions in the Canadian Rockies
Led 5 day hiking expeditions in the Canadian Rockies
Seen the Aurora Borealis whilst sat on a remote island in in the North Saskatchewan River
Crewed a Tall Ship from Southampton to Belgium and around the Channel Islands where we moored to watch an offshore F1 powerboat race from the boat
Had an impromptu massed snowball fight with children on the streets of Moscow around the time of the coup d'état in '91.
Been qualified as an instructor of dinghy sailing, wind surfing, orienteering, canoeing, kayaking, and a lifeguard at the same time.

And yes, I'm in IT management!

I'm going to be entering the South Wales league this year. I've done a couple of handicap and 3/4 circuit races and a 3/4 town crit this season as well as regular club TTs so I'm prepared for the pain, but I'll probably finish last regardless. Looking forward to filtering dog sh1t through my teeth for an hour though :D I'll be wearing Ystwyth kit and riding a 2010 Jake the Snake, wave as you lap me.

I spent far too much time in my teens and twenties at gigs appreciating music up close and loud so now my hearing is buggered enough to not notice the difference. CDs were removed from display yesterday and boxed away in the loft. 192Kbit AACs for me, usually through standard ipod white headphones from my direct from my Mac.

Not much worth paddling I don't think. You'd be better off looking at the Dulas which runs beneath the ClimachX trail from Coris direction down the the Dyfi. It's grade 3 though with a grade 6 waterfall which requires a portage.

If you are after canadian canoes and serene river paddling, I'm not sure we can offer many decent stretches of suitable water in the area.

Samurai, perhaps it's Becky James, UK Junior Double Gold track winner. She was heading to the Sky Ride today.

Kona make a Carbon road bike now? I'd be interested in that as I love my Jake the Snake and I want a proper race machine with race geometry as well. Got details? the Zing Deluxe on the website is Alloy and comes with 105 not to mention being comfort/distance/audax geometry

Merge the cross requirement with your commute and winter trainer requirement like so:

    Road Mode

    Cross Mode

    Simple with a second wheelset.

Not ridden the MTB since the Dyfi. It sits in the shed with a layer of filth and a race number splattered with mud.

The cross bike however is out daily clocking up the miles on the tarmac or trails. Even that hasn't seen the knoblie wheelset since the rain returned. Tomorrow night I'm doing my first crit, last month I got my race license and did 2 circuit races and I've shaved 5 minutes off my 10 mile TT time this season so far! Next up is a carbon race bike. Must. Go. Faster.

I admit I walked the two 10m STEEP sections of this as I was in shirt, slacks and slip on loafers (on SPD pedals) at the time.

Dyfi Enduro World Cup Descent scouting outing the day before the event:

Usual sort of stuff I ride, in this case the route to Hyddgen from Plynlumon

They're awesome, to the point that my ST4 hasn't seen any action since the Dyfi Enduro some 3 months ago. The crosser gets all the rides with slicks on for Crits, TTs, Chaingangs and Sunday club rides, and knobles for mixed/off road routes.

I keep watching that finish by Cav and can't help laugh out loud when the side on camera shows him taking off. He just takes the rest of the sprinters to school when it goes right for him. Love watching the guy sprint.

According to http://gaps.letour.fr/us.html an HTC rider just attacked the peloton so that sounds about right. The sprinters hit 1300+ on their sprints

4th Cats organised themselves I think.

mtbmatt was racing and commented on twitter "So frustrating! The one time the 4th cats work together and stay away i get grit in my eye. Would have been top 8 otherwise."
