I’m told it’s a fast big-ring kinda course with a 3 foot drop into some sand at some point. No idea if there’s snow but it’s sure to be rock hard. 70psi I think!
SurfrFree MemberMk 5 joystick on the helmet is all I need for pitch black mid Wales lanes and can happily decent at 30mph with this light alone. Fancy a flare for the back and maybe a redeye too. Not tried off road yet. I’m sure it would suffice but something floody on the bars would probably be a nice addition
SurfrFree MemberPembrey, South Wales league for me. Should prove to be a right dirt crit given the freezing temps, that is unless the snow stops travel.
SurfrFree MemberAnother vote for the stealth. I asked a similar question about a month ago and opted for a red stealth after trying on a medium in the LBS and it fitted like a glove. I agree the arms are long but I have very short arms. It just means there’s a slight ruffle in the mid arm but this is not an issue for me. Put gloves on first and then pull arms over top. Perfect seal. There’s zips if you need them at the cuffs but I tend to keep them closed all the time. It kept me bone dry in a torrential downpour at the end of a recent road ride and it is nowhere near as boiling hot as some people claim. Its comfy with a only a long sleeved base layer down to around -2 as far as I’ve tested so far.

Some fan bloody-tastic-photos from ISS in the past year.
SurfrFree MemberRight it’s highly unlikely that they are running wordpress. Firstly the Primal Wear site appears to run on ASP.net and the Rapha site is PHP. Secondly Raphas current jobs page lists a developer competent with OO PHP and MVC, something which seems rather a foreign concept to the WordPress lot!
Rapha apparently use a design agency in Brighton so unlikely that they’ve just bought a template off a crappy website. To me it looks like Rapha put the leg work in and Primal have properly ripped it off. Not just a black and white photo. Look at the location of the headers, footers, styles, It’s all there.
SurfrFree MemberSpeed Kings are a goot tyre in general but beware they wear very quickly on tarmac. Think Conti could do with some Black Chilli cross tyres but they don’t seem interested.
SurfrFree MemberAlthough my 30D does not support in-camera noise removal, I’d not use the function if it did. It takes the same amount of time as the exposure to run so for a 8 minute exposure, it takes 16 minutes to take a single photo. Do it at home in Noise Ninja or Photoshop etc.
SurfrFree MemberWore the stealth on an epic club roadie run this afternoon. No rain but plenty of stop start riding and hanging around due to 6 punctures, 2 sidewall gashes, 1 snapped chain and a crash! Jacket kept me warm at all times but never overwarm. Pit/side zips provided plenty of ventilation. Great jacket so far. Weather looking nasty for tomorrows commute so hopefully I can report back on the waterproofing tomorrow.
SurfrFree MemberSturdy tripod. Focus to infinity, Start at F8 or so and experiment with timing. Depends on available light for night photography. Most of mine are taken no more than 3 days either side of full moon.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/surfr/43368125/SurfrFree MemberWent for a Stealth after trying one on in the LBS. It fits like a glove aside from slightly long arms (I have very short arms). Looks very well made and I’m happy with the weight of the material. It will be warm but not too warm by the looks of things. Just waiting for rain now!
SurfrFree MemberAny chance of a hint as to route/locations? I’m local and may ride out from nant direction (home) or join from Mach but I’m unsure of availability at the moment
SurfrFree MemberCheers guys. Going to look at a stealth in the flesh. It seems to make the most sense for my requirements.
SurfrFree MemberI converted an old JAMMA Mortal Kombat 2 cab with Linux MAME using a JPac and a custom ATX card.
I’d love to have one still but I don’t think the wife would be keen. It’s a lot easier if you’ve got a basement or are single ;)
Friends of mine have/had cabs too. some DOS, some windows some Linux. There weren’t many linux varients out there when I did mine, though that may have changed by now.
I’d quite like a cocktail MAME cab but the’r kind of limited for some games.
SurfrFree MemberJust got back from Brechfa for the first time and made the same mistake! Eneded up at the bottom and did the middle section of the Raven again! That bloody steep climb twice will teach me not to do it again.

Awesome trail though :) well worth going back and riding it all again. Massive facepalm when I noticed the sign the 2nd time down.
SurfrFree MemberOldgit yeh that seems to be how Kona ship them!
You have to ride technical sections on the drops really to get decent braking coverage. Can’t imagine riding trail centres on the hoods!
SurfrFree MemberMine came with tonnes of rise but I reversed the stem and removed as many spacers as possible to get more aero for TT use. I’ve now kept this setup and race cross and ride trails with no ill effect. I’m after a road race bike next and I guess I’ll be going lower again:

SurfrFree MemberRed Kites are 2 a penny around here. Here’s a few Nant-yr-Arian locals
And there’s quite a few Buzzards too
SurfrFree MemberCarmarthen Park for me, but I spectated as we’d been to a wedding yesterday and been indulging heavily all day and night! Great looking course which took in the banking of the velodrome (concrete outdoor) and start finish line in front of the grandstand. Hope the rider who came off towards the end was OK. I heard an ambulance was called.
SurfrFree MemberThoroughly enjoyed it and following #chasinglegends I’ve yet to see a bad word regarding the film. Want it on bluray asap.
I think there must have been some sort of bet between the panelists as to who could wear the most bizarre item of clothing. Cavs ‘t shirt and trainers’ diner jacket, Brian and Rolfs purple jeans or bolero shirt?! Liggit wasn’t in on it though.
SurfrFree MemberCrewed on both of these for the odd long weekend across to Belgium or the channel islands
The Donald Searle from the Bosun’s Seat
A weekend Wayfarer trip from Cowes across the Solent back in my college days
DId a lot of Wayfarer sailing including my pre-entry assessment back in the day as well as toppers, lasers and raced an Enterprise with my mate on weekends at Littleton but we got bored quickly and would often cross the line backwards or do a MOB drill mid-race. Not sure what the old boys in their Solos thought of us ;)
SurfrFree MemberResults are out. I managed to better my previous race and came in 49th out of 71 starters! Plenty of room for improvement yet then :)

SurfrFree MemberNice find scratch. I seem to have dodged the lens on that set though :(
SurfrFree MemberDid you have pink bar tape on the Surly? I recall some banter on the first lap about pink bar tape!
SurfrFree MemberI was the only Ystwyth rider wearing a jersey. There was one other there, Gareth Payne who was riding a black TCX in a black jersey, so you must have sen me :) Found any photos of the event at all? I’ve tried trawling the various clubs’ facebook pages and flickr with no joy.
SurfrFree MemberI was on a blue Jake the Snake. Looking just like this photo of me at Crickhowell:
I didn’t get to Risca and I’m not sure whether I’ll make Carmarthen Park next week as I’m at a wedding on Saturday. But the wedding is just down the road so I’ll throw the bike in the car just incase I’m not absolutely hanging. I did Crickhowell on 8 pints the night before but this is likely to be double that!
As for the course, it was nice and fast and I loved throwing it down the hill and into the left handers at full pelt. Often made places up there. Also the start wasn’t jammed up at the first corner so much on this course so the field naturally spread without riders getting caught in bottle-necks. Weather was perfect and views were awesome. Plenty of friendly banter and courteous riders. Great day all in all. Looking for photos if you know of any?
SurfrFree MemberGood race at Ty Mawr farm down in Penperlleni today. A much more simple course than the technical Crickhowell a few weeks previous, but good to see more overtaking opportunities and a bit of an ascent to deal with from one end of the course to the other. No idea how I placed but my general effort was at max for the duration and I was picking riders off one by one. Only noticed Lee Williams (Wiggle) lap me the once, but maybe he snuck past a second time, results will be out by Tuesday I guess.
182BPM average, 191 Max
SurfrFree MemberI did my first one a few weeks back at Crickhowell School. Awesome course including off camber roots, up and down steep banks, inclines and the full length of a long jump sand pit.
I lingered at the back of the start line and took my own pace. I ended up picking off riders gradually after being held up by the sheer weight of traffic for the first 2 laps. Next time I’ll try starting much further up and trying to hold a position. I ended up 59th out of 76 finishers and thoroughly enjoyed myself. 99% of riders on cross bikes too bar a couple singlespeed 29ers
And as for 165BPM? LOL, I averaged 180BPM for the hour and maxxed at 192!

Going back for round 3 of the series this Sunday near Pontypool. Very excited.
SurfrFree MemberOut for my first MTB ride tonight since May at the Dyfi Enduro. THe road bike has completely taken over the summer season for me. It’s on and off rainy and probably a bit of wind but I’m quite looking forward to it even though the lunchtime spin class has taken the edge off my legs. It’s when it’s lashing it down before you even get out of the car that the fear sets in. It’s always fine once you are wet though.
SurfrFree MemberQuicksilver leather wallet. Must be well over 5 years old now. It had a coi zip which failed early in it’s life but I soon moved to coins in pocket anyway. Otherwise I was just thiking yesterday how well it’s been holding up. Structurally sound and looks really nice as the originally buffed leather outer is now polished up from years of pocket wear and handling.
SurfrFree MemberIm running Rebas at 100mm on mine! I keep meaning to remove the spacer to get them to 100mm but the bike feels great as it is, so I’m not in a rush.
SurfrFree MemberI think about it every day, but I’m finding it very hard to turn away from a 30 days holiday, permanent contract and final salary pension with no ties beyond 37.5 hours a week. Public spending cuts may help push me in the right direction though.
SurfrFree Memberbeach fishermen treat them as pests as they go for all bait. I answered this same question just last week on tz-uk:
