All of my bikes are in < 100% build state except the road bike so no riding for me today :( Did a bit of shopping and visited my parents with my wife instead. Here’s hoping that the postman delivers parts to complete my various builds this week, or Merlin pull one out of the bag and deliver my new Malt in record time.

Why was his site better than the met office direct? I find their 5-day forecasts very useful. And the granularity of the daily forecast is very good too. And thats in Wales!

Late 80s for me. It was a natural progression. I’d been riding all my bikes off road for as long as I could remember. Always on technical singletrack or bomb hole type BMX tracks created in local parkland. I remember buying MBUK #1 and decided to upgrade from my Raleigh Burner to a Ridgeback 600. The rest is history.

Are we supposed to have sent another weigh-in yesterday? (9th as per OP)

I’ve got a 93/4 Cindercone undergoing the SS treatment as we speak. I’m just waiting for some new P2 forks to arrive and me to bother putting the cassette spacer and sprocket on the wheel.

A slight varient on the theme, but I eat Quaker Granola for breakfast. However the calorie intake is about 400-450 for 100g of cereal (a typical bowls worth).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granola

It’s basically just rolled oats and honey baked. How does porridge alone compare?

Wife and I were close to throwing things at the telly by the end of the show. (Do you think I’d have a claim against Channel 4 ;) ).

As for good-looking? I’m sorry but she reminded me of Kelly Osbourne and that’s not a good thing! I don’t go in for the chubby dyke look though.

Andy thanks for the heads up. I know how things can be. I was just after a general idea of how fast these things get attended to. Hope you clear the backlog soon :)

Seems to be pretty variable then. I guess I’m just having no luck due to an awkward problem. They’ll likely have no record of my order as the system failed. It was 30th December and the site was up and down like a yo-yo all night. Timeouts aplenty. Serves me right for beeing greedy.

Haha. And Lizzie Windsor would have you hung drawn and quartered if you hit out at them.. or something like that.

This video has made me rethink my commute and I’ve just mapped out a 15km route taking in only unclassified roads and cycle paths. Its very much the long way around but the peace and quiet would be lovely.

I went down the 2nd hand route and am 95% build-complete on a MY00 Trek 6500 WSD, Deore equipped, Mavic 521 Rims. It looks like new. Parts mostly purchased from retrobike forum. Total cost probably 130 quid.

The rugby lads I go with have stayed in Issacs before.

Paddys Place, 5 Beresford Place, Gardiner St, Dublin 1

We’ve had good luck there before too.

last year we tried once around the corner from Bachelor Inn right on the river in town. Great location, decent hostel too. Name escapes me.

Call me odd but I really enjoyed that. Wish my commute was as flat, and quiet. National Speed Limit A roads all the way for me. What were the choice words with the van driver / workers ? And how damn stuborn are those swans?

is iPlayer p2p then? I always thought it was multicast, hence the need to get the ISPs to enable it in the first place?

If it’s not mad fast technical stuff then something like Boards of Canada might work well.

Cycle2Work is not the same as Cyclescheme unfortunately. I believe there are 3 schemes running in the UK at present.

Brooess thanks but unless you are registered with cyclescheme and are selling for under 1K then I can’t help you.

Cy cheers for the info. I hope to be in touch asap. just waiting to hear back from Merlin re. quote now.

I thought the final payment was akin to a 13th month. i.e. no more than 50 quid (for a 1000 quid bike over 12 months).

I’ve decided to go for the 09 Merlin Malt 2 with Rebas, XT, Race Face and WTB kit on black Mavic XC717s. I couldn’t find a better deal on a cyclescheme registered shop.

Now to order the Soul. Do they have particular build dates? when might the colours change next? Not that black or custard are bad.

As a bloke, I’ve tended to blindly wash everything at 40 and tumble dry on low for years. Is this bad for Lycra then? Can’t say it’s ever caused me any problems.

What is everyone planning on doing to make this happen then?

I tested the commute to work on my road bike yesterday but without decent lights and hi-vis, I’ll not be trying it at night just yet.

Morning Sausage and roll at work will be axed in favour of cereal before leaving home. Lunchtime sandwiches will no longer contain fatty may based spreads. Additional cereal bars going out the window too. Plenty of water at the desk for those hungry moments.

Turbo trainer set up in conservatory for 45 minute sessions 3 or 4 times a week. Still putting final build touches to mine and the wifes bikes so as soon as they’re done we’ll be out for weekend rides and I’ll try to get to Nant-yr-Arian or Climachx for a early-bird ride once a week too.

Goal: 3 stone loss or a goood chunk thereof, and to be fit and ready for Dyfi Enduro.

Present state: Not been regularly exercising for years, gave up smoking 6 months ago and enjoy the beer far too much once or twice a week.

Should we start another thread for discussions on progress, training, dieting techniques, menus etc or would you prefer things all in one thread?

Have you swapped the Crown Race from each fork? part of the headset which is attached to the bottom of the steerer tube. Not much more than a shaped metal ring, really.

Steerer tubes sometimes differ but the vast majority are 1 1/8″ these days I believe. Older tubes or road bike tubes can be 1″ and there are the odd 1 1/4″ out there too.

I’ve spent a bit of time shopping for donor hardtails and the best so far I’ve found is a Merlin Malt 2. Full XT Disc groupset, Reba Team forks, Mavic XC717 rims, Race Face Evolve XC finishing kit, WTB Rocket V saddle. £955 at the moment on the merlincycles website.

I put all the components into CRC and they total 1250 without the frame, so this looks to be a good bargain to me. Anyone know of a better offer? Total bike price must be <1000 notes to qualify for cyclescheme.

I’ve had a Integral Designs Unishelter which I bought in Mountain Equipment CoOp in Calgary in 1994. It’s been all over the Rockies with me, and a fair few mountainous locations in the UK. The single hoop design keeps fabric off your face and there’s a fly net over the opening aswell as the fully breathable layer so you can stargaze without fear of Mozzie bites. If you can find a dealer in the UK or can import from somewhere, I’d definitely give it a try.

    Mine at Pumlimun

EDIT: Oh just a note to say that I always used mine with a 3/4 length lightweight Thermarest and a hollow fibre bag. Fleece liner if REALLY cold. Some of the best nights sleeps I’ve ever had, and I’ve spent about 300 nights in it.

It is possible to have privacy settings applied to Flickr images up to the point where only you can see them. But perhaps you don’t wish them to even be hosted in the public domain for security purposes etc which is understandable.

It goes well beyond what you are after but have you looked at Adobe Lightroom? It’s a photographers wet dream as far as software goes. Apple do Aperture which is similar (OS X Only though I think).

Yeh I think I may count as one of the ones aiming high with a target loss of 3 stone in 12 weeks. It was supposed to be 3 stone in 52 weeks when the wife and I planned it so seeing as this came up the same day, I thought ‘what the heck’. I don’t expect to get anywhere close.

Why would cables affect the boot process 10 seconds in though? It’s more likely that a component is failing during POST or when first accessed by the firmware.
