I use a Polaris orange dayglo jobbie from Halfords which claims to be breathable. It’s not too bad for commuting though and only cost 20-30 quid

Depends. Upland stuff can be quite dry but nearer the lakes, the paths are still quite wet

Last Sunday on the Conti at Nant

Yesterday on a higher section of the Conti near Bont Goch:

Personally, I like the variation 🙂

I remember going there back in 2005, don’t think it had been open long then. I thought it was ace, had a great time. Must go back there soon.

I first rode it in around 1995 and it had been there a while then!

An ancient Leatherman PST or something, and a large Park Allenkey tool. Covers most bases and both tools fit perfectly in the 2 pockets in the front pocket of my Camelbak M.U.L.E.

Used to fly transatlantic in the 80s on my Dads ID90 (Industry Discount 90%) on standby but in the height of the season we were kept waiting for a flight for 3 days at Heathrow. Luckily we lived about 8 miles away so it wasn’t too bad.

I believe standby tickets are still available but there is a large qualifying list and you’d be at the bottom of it.

Never seen the tilt shift effect in video before. I like it. Also liked the monochrome intro.

I’m running Double Fighter IIs on my commuter hardtail. I got them to deal with unclasified lanes, mud, slimy surfaces etc and they work well but might be overkill for nice tarmac. Good country tyre though.

Ming has not really been consistent. He has however, improved dramatically. He barely made it out of the heats in the first place IIRC.

fbk, you could well be right. I just found that last night while worrying about the ascents. Co-worker tells me the initial climb isn’t as bad as the leg burner at Nant-yr-Arian so I’m going to train on that as its a couple miles away.

I decided not to commute on my road bike for these reasons. I ended up with Conti Double Fighter 2s on an MTB instead. I have been wondering how a cross tyre might work out though? Its awful tarmac, mud and cow shite on parts of my commute.

It’s no secret that I am not a fan of Full Suspension bikes bar a handful but FS Konas look like something that British Eagle would be proud of. Such a shame since their mid 90s steel hardtails are absolutely beautiful and I love my 94 Cindercone SS to bits. It does indeed sound like they’ve lost their way at least in the looks dept. I can’t say I’ve ridden anything recent by them so opinion is based on appearance alone. Shallow I know, but it’s still an opinion.

My first Enduro and I’m bricking it regarding fitness. Hopefully the daily commute and weekend off-road rides will get me up to fitness in time.

What sort of length rides would be required for the longer ones? 2 hours+ ?

One of ours went for a week from Saturday to Saturday. He came back as if nothing was the matter and he looked absolutely fine. No idea what he’s been up to, but he’s not left for any amount of time again since then. presume he was trapped somewhere but able to find food. They’re hardy little beasts and will probably survive even in a shed for quite a while.

I’m in pretty much exactly the same boat. I’ve just started commuting this week rather than 4 months ago though. My legs are feeling the burn very quickly on the uphills. It doesn’t help that I’m dragging 14.5 stone of lard and a mid 90s bottom end steel hardtail up the climbs with me!

There is scope for elongating my route to a rolling 10 mile ride which will probably take me a little over an hour at my current pace. Would this be enough to improve things?

You guys have some great looking cute kids 😀

I’m 32 and my wife’s just coming up to 30 and we’re looking to start as soon as she can get a permanent contract and qualify for maternity leave.

God I love them. Season will be starting again soon. 3 booked so far this year. Looking forward to each and every one of them. We got married ourselves last Summer and it was an absolutely fantastic day. Our only cock-up was not locating the corsages in the back of the church and nicking them from the church steps instead.

Drinkies started at about 2PM 🙂

Most of Wales is covered in fantastic single and double track. Just pick a set of mountains and pull out an OS map and create your own route. Or if you want a bit of help, try Bikely or Mapmyride.com for others pre-recorded routes.

Unnatural? LOL. How much more unnatural can you get than a huge wooden walkways in the middle of coniferous forest at purpose built trail centres?

Yeh, it might be worth looking at your shoe. You sound like you want a stiffer sole to me. The shoe spreads the weight across the stiff section of sole and really takes the place of the pedal cage.

Flats are really useful for all those long travel riders out there as they spend most of their lives walking their bikes around. If you actually want to ride, SPDs are the way to go for sure.

Had a lovely ride out on some of the Nant-yr-Arian trails on my new Merlin Malt 2. Having not had a new MTB since 2000 I was amazed at how things had progressed.

Just finished my first ride on the new bike with Merlin 717s on XT hubs and have to say they did a perfectly good job. Obviously early to tell about longevity but nice to read good reports on here 🙂

Lovely afternoon after a misty few days. Went up to Pendam and did a short loop on parts of the Continental from Pendam to Nant-y-Moch and back again via Hippity Hop. Will be adding more loops on next time.
