No contour lines, only ocasional height points. Not much in the way of path/bridleway mapping either as far as I can tell. Looks to be aimed at road users more than countryside users.

Are they overly heavy-duty then? overkill for a 4" trail bike which keeps it's wheels mainly on the ground?

Mind if I ask why you are selling them? I fancy exactly this setup myself but have no cash to buy right now. Interested to hear if you didn't get on with them for some reason.

All the phone based ideas require GPRS signal to uplink. This is usually not available in the sort of places we go to play in unfortunately.

Still not seen any daffs in the wild (gardens don't count)

Bont Goch climb on the Syfydrin trail at Nant-yr-Arian yesterday.

Perhaps if you remove the automated reporting side of things and just use it as a way for people to draw a quick square on a google map of where they are going to be. That way if somebody raises the alarm in the traditional ways, at least the services would have a starting point for a search. It negates the issue of false alarms but might not give the user as much security. After all SOMEBODY still has to raise the alarm in the first place.

All I'd need to do would be to make the services aware that the site existed and that it would be worth looking at in the event of a MisPer.

Photography – everybody's a photographer since the sawn of DSLRs aren't they?

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/surfr/

Watching Rugby – never was any good at playing but I do enjoy watching the welsh regions and Welsh team even when they're bad.

Geeking – either software projects or building pet projects usually involves researching and maybe buying parts for little projects then moving onto another project before finishing the first. Currently thinking about sending up a weather balloon into near space with a digital camera on board (like many others have done before), previously DIY LED lights etc.

Cooking – seems to have grown on me in recent years. Enjoy cookery TV programs too.

Veg growing – bit late getting anything in the ground this year though

Sitting in the hills waiting to get buzzed – not been in a couple of years now but will probably go again soon

Golf – pretty much given up now due to being uttlerly shite and needing to play every day to improve even slightly.

Lots of things to think about. Especially the liability and the 'check in' function on safe return. Keep the thoughts coming.

I felt my Merston 3/4 bibs were a huge improvement over the Earnley 3/4 bibs I had before but this involved a change in weight too as the Merstons are a cold weather model. The stitching mas much more solid too though. Suits my pocket and does a a fine job.

No Joe Satriani? No Yngwie Malmsteen, No Steve Vai

I vote for Kirk Hammet but Slash would be on the podium too, agree with comments above regarding Tom Morello too.

One of the best programmes in a long time and another reason to pay the license fee. It's truly ignited an interest which has been lying dormant inside me. I can't get enough of it at the moment. Pricing up telescopes now and interested in launching a weather balloon into near space with some home made controller electronics on board (yes like that guy in the news last week and the Spanish students last year).

However, I have found myself having to watch the shows 2 or 3 times. Not because of how excellent the content is, but because I keep falling asleep during them! Something about the music and his voice just sends me off, no matter how fascinated I am in the content. Is it just me?

I'm thinking of putting a 34 in place of the 36 on my jake the Snake just to have something in reserve for those especially steep sections of trail or for the end of a long day in the saddle. I'm not that strong and can get up most stuff with the 36 but once or twice I've been left wishing I had a little left in reserve.

Now: French Revolutions: Cycling the Tour De France

Next: might try A Short History of Nearly Everything again by Bill Bryson. Or something else space/physicsy as I've been inspired by Brian Cox's Wonders of the Solar System

You ask 3 people and if 2 or more agree, you accept it. Essentially the same as double key entry.

EDIT: Oh, and yes it will not know if the user is 100% correct the first time they encounter the word, but they will have a percentage of the characters pre-recognised and can do a fuzzy match between the existing data and the human entered data.

I'm going to sign up for Builth on the SUnday. Probably do the 75Km.

Anybody know what the route tends to be like? Better on a Full Sus or a Cross bike?

Google bought them recently to enhance the quality of their Google Books OCR project by getting humans to type the words which the computer couldn't ascertain. This could mean even harder to read words appearing in the future.

I'm aiming for a similar 3 bike quiver. Orange ST4, Jake the Snake, and a Cotic Soul. I just need to save up for the Soul now, so I'd vote for the Curtis. I don't know much about them, but presume you could SS it in future if you desired.

I really love mine. It really does encourage you to pin it everywhere. I'm still running mine with 100mm rebas up front as I can't be bothered to remove the spacer and it feels great. Interested to know how it would feel with 120mm and a properly set up rear shock ( no shock pump or knowledge on the rp23 yet ). I reckon it is the perfect do-it-all UK bike. Currently running conti mountain king protections 2.2 black chili and they are great but am looking forward to trying a pair of rubber queens on there soon if they fit.

Common cycling injury. I suffered with numbness for a couple months when the reach on my road bike was too far forward. You sure it's sleep related?

As a local I prefer Nant. Mark of Zorro is as good as as the Dyfi final descent in my mind, if not better. The rest of the Climachx is a little lacking I find. It's not terrible, but given the choice I'd pick Nant.

I'm probably swayed by the fact I can ride from the front door and be at the top of Zorro on the Summit, bottom of Hipity Hop on the Pendam or Bont Goch climb within 30 mins from my front door.

PS if it's tomorrow, I'll probably see you up there :D

The problem with the cables is the brake cable which routes under the bartape, making a solid circular clamp around the bars problematic. The smart I have has a crappy plastic cam type lock which bends out of shape with too much pressure.

    Website currently says

"219 out of a maximum of 650 riders have registered so far."

    Not bad for 45 mins
