We wouldn’t do it that way, you don’t really want to be compressing fibreglass between timbers if you can help it, it loses it’s thermal efficiency and potentially it is difficult to get a flat ceiling where it compresses to different thicknesses over different joist.

Normally stick a few nails/screws in the side of the joists to let you ‘hang’ the fibreglass between the joists temporarily, then staple a vapour barrier (thin plastic sheet) over the joists then plasterboard.

If worried about breaks in the thermal layer due to the joists use an insulated plasterboard.

Depends somewhat on which form of contract as there are various iterations containing various levels of design but most likely no the builder can’t do that.

there will be a clause in there for mediation, suggest your brother suggests that route in the first instance, it may be that the builder backs down.

Depending on the size of the builder it’s important to remember that often despite the large sums involved the builder often doesn’t take home much. I’m not condoning his attitude but if the job has cost a lot more than estimated and it’s a very small builder some give and take may be helpful. As with all these things there are to many variables to give a sensible answer here!

On my MT5s I just remove the plunger from the handlebar end syringe, so essentially just an open container for the oil to fill.

Fill bottom syringe full and attach to caliper
Remove lever screw and firmly push the syringe end into the lever. There is no way of knowing that it is correctly inserted, but I have never managed to insert it wrong!

Push fluid from bottom to top applying a fair amount of pressure, tapping hoses/caliper while doing so. When bottom is nearly empty or top syringe nearly full, pull back on bottom syringe slowly, much slower than you pushed it through. I don’t know exactly why, but my guess is that the top syringe does not make a good enough seal to create a proper vacuum, allowing air to creep in around the syringe.

Repeat until 1 more time after the last time you see bubbles in the top syringe. Finish on a push leaving a small amount in the bottom syringe. Insert plunger into the top of the top syringe.

Holding a rag to mop up spills quickly remove top syringe and insert plug, warning it’s extremely fragile literally just finger tight on the round part of the torx key don’t even try to snug it down tight.

Rotate bike in stand or lift caliper so it is higher than lever with filling port facing up. Remove syringe and fit port plug, from memory this one is less fragile.

If a bleed on new brakes i put the oil from top syringe back in bottle, if on old brakes I dispose of it.

This is just how I do it, run mt5 on two bikes now for a few years.

I’m 6’ and bought a large, it’s a good fit although a little extra stack height wouldn’t go amiss, it’s not to low but it’s as low as I ever rode my “race” bike.

Be careful sizing up, it’s got a traditional top tube so stand over needs checking carefully!

Had mine delivered a couple of days ago, love it already!

With regards to the comment on speed, every time I look at a steel framed bike, be it road or mtb I think “god, that’s gonna be heavy and slow carbon would be at least X kg lighter… then I get out on it and I’m always surprised by how much fun it is. Yes it’s knocked approx 2km/hr off my local loop compared to the carbon road race bike I had, but is that down to the weight or down to the nearly 2 inch tyres??

Only thing I plan on changing is the handlebars. The large comes with 42cm bars which is to small for me (and I would imagine most people riding a large!)

That looks awesome, how do you find the Mary bars? Please report back once the 700 wheels arrive, very interested!

Other option is of course normal bars and 26 wheels but not sure what this gives me over the transmitter!

Looking at some wheel calculators it looks like I could go 650×2.0 or 700x35ish

I’m just waiting for a pair of Simond from decathlon to arrive. Not much help as I have no idea if they’re any good yet but I figured they were worth a punt for my use (4 or so times a year bouldering when we visit the in-laws.)

I use Hudson, they guarantee to look after any legal costs arising from any hmrc action etc Can’t recommend them enough, constantly updating their procedures to stay ahead of hmrc and informing us of why different procedures are important which helps ensure compliance.

Not sure on procedure but sounds like you’re in a better position than most if the driver admitted fault to police.

Best of luck for a swift recovery

I’ll give the halo a go.  I’m actually not sure what gearing is on there at the moment but I am keen to give fixed a go!

I’ve got a pair of v brakes in the spares box, presumably I would need different levers to use them?  I don’t particularly like the levers that are fitted, they’re a bit narrow so I may try the spare sora levers I have with the canti’s first.

Weeksy – I have a mountain bike, it’s a 160mm travel enduro gnar thing and it’s made anything that’s not pointing straight downhill really boring!  I really wanted something with less travel but this came up for sale on chain reaction cheaper than I could get a second hand T-130 so I went for it.

When looking at other Pompino threads I notice a lot of people seem to have riser stems on, I’ve got a 7 degree stem on at the moment but feel like a bit more height would be nice, anybody using anything steeper?  Presumably I would have to go slightly longer if I found a steeper stem?

Yep, definitely a pain took me a few goes to get my rear brake bubble free after shortening. “bubble bleed”  technique of pushing/pulling the fluid from the caliper plus lots of tapping the cables and rotating the bike in the stand eventually got it sorted and they’ve been fine for a year since.

Awesome brakes, mineral fluid much nicer than dot. Always enough power. Love mine!

I love the CM on the back of the hardtail. Was less impressed on the front. Wtb vigilante front CM rear is a killer mixed riding/conditions combo imo (and also a killer xc combo… It’ll kill your legs!)

Mine did similar to start with, a couple of weeks of checking it regularly in the app while it “learnt”

I also found it very annoying one night coming home, turned it on, turned up 2 hours later and it had turned itself off again without heating up. Not had the chance to test this again so will be interested in your findings!

I think what I was really trying to get across was

    -stay loose

-let the board slide, it’s going to anyway so instead of trying to desperately dig it in just accept it and let it go

-don’t worry about the board catching an edge, if you’re loose and lowish your legs will compress and then the board will let go and slide again. It’s going to happen, no point stressing.

    surfingobo

On ice I take the view that proper technique isn’t helping so use the ice to slide your way down, instead of nice big carves I normally spin the board under me from edge to edge/weight the back foot to induce a slide and let it slide to take the speed out as it’s obviously not biting. Doesn’t look very elegant but unless I meet some big lumps it seems pretty effective.

Not the easiest to describe but hope that helps.

We self administer. I can’t remember the exact wording but we basically set it up so that four more years of rent at £1 per year after the first year plus the residual value at 5 years are all paid at the end of year one. So just check the guidance for the 5 year residual and add £4. This worked out very nominal from memory.

I found out a few months ago that one of the blokes that had worked at my uncles garage for years wasn’t really named Henry, he was named Richard, but they already had a Richard so they tried a few names out until Henry stuck.

Funny thing was, he said he struggled when his family called him Richard because he was so used to having ‘Henry’ shouted across the forecourt

Boss asked me a couple weeks ago if we should continue paying an extortionate fee to be in it. I replied with “we still pay that??” and “I haven’t seen one in years”.  Turns out we’ve been paying a few thousand every year to be listed. What a waste!

I’ve been on a low carb (keto) diet since October 2016. I absolutely love it.  It has changed my life. Let’s skip over the part where I lost loads of weight and kept it off, I also don’t crave food anymore, where I would be hungry from about an hour after my porridge until I finally caved and ate my lunch about 11AM before, I can now eat at any sensible time around lunch when it fits in with my day. That may not sound like much to some of you, but to others that should really hit home.

For me a lot of it is psychological.  For example If somebody asked me before if I wanted a slice of cake, I would think about it, and my internal conversation would go something along the lines of, well I do want it, but I’m in training, I shouldn’t have it, but I do want it, but it’ll prevent me from losing weight and I’m training for XYZ,  but I do want it.  At this point, even if I turned it down this time, I can guarantee that when the next treat was offered I would take it. With this diet the question is not even considered, the answer to “do you want this” is “I can’t have it”. It’s a small change but to me, psychologically, it has made all the difference.

Finally, I don’t suffer from an afternoon slump any more, where at 2PM I would have been sitting at my desk trying to keep my eyes open I am now able to work right through with no drop in performance. Similarly on long rides I feel as though I have a steady state of continuous energy, with the only limiting factor being how good my muscular endurance is, not my energy levels.

I realise this makes me sound like one of those transformations you read about in a magazine, but I’m not.  When I started I was a 23 year old, 107kg, 182cm post grad who had just completed a half Ironman, and had been disappointed that despite all the training I couldn’t lose any weight due to my diet. I wasn’t skinny, but I was still squeeze into a medium size t shirt.

Now, I weigh 95 kg in an untrained state (back injury),  trained I will drop to around 90kg.  I hope this has helped a few people understand what it is the OP is trying to do, and that it is safe, but it is a total turn around of everything you learnt in HE at school.

Depends if you’re buying it because you want a new school long bike or not. If you do then it doesn’t make sense to size down! For what it’s worth I demoed a 2018 XL and L 905 back to back. I’m 6ft and wear 32 inch leg trousers. I loved the xl, felt cramped when I then got on the L. Felt really cramped when I then got back on my 18 inch inbred. If I’d got on the large then the xl then I’d probably have felt great on the large and stretched on the xl. Personally I’d work out the largest size you can get a 150mm dropper in and go for that one.

What size are you looking for? I have a univega alpina frame that I think is 17″ in the garage that is disc or v so would allow you to upgrade later on
