I think gizmodo mobile is a good example of a mobile site – they intersperse the story headlines with clearly signposted text ads. When you click a story it displays with a couple of resized pictures.

Though I keep trying to get lifehacker to display mobile, and it forgets even when I try and force it by going to http://www.m.lifehacker.com. One of those problems referred to above I guess! In my ignorance I assumed it was simply a case of using css to recognise the browser as a mobile one and then parse the page as required …

I’m running android on an HTC wildfire.

The OS is already Android 2.1 (eclair) and an update to 2.2 (froyo) is expected in 3rd Quarter of this year, so imminently. It'll roll out first to unbranded phones, ie one's that weren't bought from a carrier, and a little later to the branded ones.

I'm generally very pleased with mine, but not without niggles. Mine has a bug where the wifi disconnects as the screen turns off, and it also won't let me select my location as UK/English, it seems determined to place me somewhere in central Europe. Not usually a problem but some apps won't work as they are dependent on your location (Amazon MP3 app for one).

    Enjoy!

I've had a wildfire a fortnight to replace my old hero. I think it's waaay quicker, loads web pages much faster and on android 2.1 as standard.

However, there is a problem with the wifi on mine where it disconnects whenever the screen times out. I've had some back and forth with htc tech support and they say it's a known problem. Apparently the developers are working on it but with no timescale for a solution …

Sounds like a little thing but it isn't half annoying!

Hansa's gujarati restaurant on North Street in Leeds is fantastic. Authentic vegetarian gujarati food and you can warm up with a Belgian beer in the Reliance along the road!
