OP – assuming that you’re near Sheffield given the username, link up with the Sheffield Outdoor Plungers (SOUP) on the socials. They would be the perfect group to spend time with as you’re starting out. Take it slow, bring plenty of layers and hot drinks to warm up with. Don’t worry about not getting all in and staying in for ages at first, cold water even up to your ankles makes a difference!

Oh and please don’t jump in until you’re fully acclimatised. Cold water shock is a thing.

    Enjoy!

    @intheborders lol if only

Thanks all. And yes there is a ton of stuff in there that could do with getting rid of so I think I need to stop being lazy and get on with the inevitable!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Please don’t believe everything you read about Windermere. The savewindermere campaign are doing a great job of putting the frighteners up everyone about BG algae and sewage when the evidence from the big Windermere survey (4 times a year water sampling from 150+ sites) is that water quality is exceptionally good.</p>
Don’t get me wrong, it is gross that there is sewage that gets into the lake, but unless you’re choosing to swim in very specific spots there is little to no risk.

Can’t argue about the amount of traffic on the lake though. Once we get into the autumn it’ll calm down again!

Lovingly artisan bakery in Kendal and maslin bakery in honiton, Devon both have kannelbular to die for. I think maslin might just have the edge though!

    Tado heating controller & 10 TRVs swapped over – £80. S Lakes.
Really pleased with it so far, I’m sure it’s paid for itself already!

Thanks all. I think that I’m going to have to remove the top window (sash?) so that I can get to the lock mechanism as it’s on the first floor and I can’t get to it from the outside.
Next question: how to avoid dropping a 2′ x 3′ uPVC window through the roof of the kitchen below? Time to break out the old climbing kit I reckon …

I was hopeful that the problem lay in the handle so tried replacing that but no joy. The window is a top hinge half height window opening outwards so really awkward to get to this bit. Might try taking a little video on the phone to see if I can spot any serial numbers etc …

Another vote for tado here, though not done a winter with it yet.
Smart TRVs on most rads and like others have said it is truly brilliant to be able to heat only a couple of rooms at a time. Also WFH.
Not noticed any problems with range. The boiler is at the top of the house and the router+tado bridge is two floors below. No problems with connectivity noticed so far.

Something I saw suggested yes it is lime mortar, and so I did a bit more reading and got quite scared. Any tips??

Hmmm, I’ve already got premium family!
I think it might be to do with the way that the Google home mini is set up. As I was the one setting it up it is using my Google account and presumably my everything-else accounts as well …
I can’t find anything in the Google home settings that might help!

Has anyone got experience of running a Tado set in a tall house? I’m wanting to use them in a property which is over 4 floors and I have heard tell that the central thermostat may struggle to communicate to both the top and bottom of the house.
So another way of asking the same question is what is the range of the central control unit.

My daughter and I built a Tuin Riho 3m square log cabin at the start of this year, which was the first time I’d built anything more sophisticated than IKEA furniture.
We built it on a timber base sitting on four concrete pads with 50mm foil backed insulation between the floor joists and on the roof.
The construction was super easy, we were floor to roof in a day. Another couple of weekends to do the floor and shingle the roof.
The main window has leaked, but I’ve spent some time adjusting it to make sure it sits really well into the frame and filling any gaps with sealant and draught excluder. That seems to have done the trick. Absolutely watertight everywhere else.
I think if I were to do it again I would get one with walls thicker than 40mm and I’d put thicker insulation in as despite an oil rad in there it is quite chilly. And we’ve not got to deep winter yet!
I use it as an office, so we have power and a network cable running down a trench from the house. This is spot on.
Can’t wait to build my next one!

    No building regs needed:

    href=”https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/43/outbuildings/2&#8243;

But yes to carbon monoxide and protecting a wooden structure from fire.
The roof and floor will be insulated.

I think that a stove is a nice to have but my wife considers it an essential! Discussions are ongoing …

That’s the sort of thing I was thinking about. Need to check on building regs I guess …

I’ve been looking at these cabins and they look great, but I’m worried about exceeding the 2.5m height that permitted development needs given that it will be close to the boundary and I’m planning to build a timber frame on stilts and not a concrete pad base.

I think the 45mm wall log options are right for me as it’ll be an office. The smaller ones look better for a storage shed, but has anyone used one of the thinner walked ones for an office?

    Thanks in advance!

Ask to see the policy written down and then work within that. If you’re not seeking to reduce your hours overall then it sounds like you’re asking for compressed hours, which would be a reasonable request.
If you have an existing flexitime arrangement could you work up the extra hours and take them off as soon as they add up to a day? Could be a more straightforward way to do it.
