Bikeloves Carl is a world cup DH mechanic for the Chainreaction team. He closed this week due to being in attendance in South Africa. Shop is now fully open again. The shop may look full of commuter bikes, but alot of top downhill and XC racers use his services. He makes good coffee too.

    Lunar Chateau 400 / 470

The 400 only has a shower from 2005 onwards.

DONT GET MULTI RELEASE! they are totally crap for offroad. Trust me they release too easily and could cause problems over rough ground of even on jumps.

+1 for new XTR trail pedals.

661s have cut aways at the back of your legs which make them more comfortable on hot days or long rides. POC bunch up behind your knee causing discomfort. They do look better and cant be faulted in term of protection.

Lunar Chateau – easily towed by small family car like a focus. Great layout.

    Grave digger.

Que argument regarding the finer points of drifting and skidding versus old blokes that ride 29ers.

    I wait with bated breath.

Oh and I forgot one I heard last week –

“we’ll have to engineer efficient architectures”

“lets run it up the flag pole”
    “lets knife and fork it”
    “lets deep dive”
    “lets touch base”
    “lets talk off line”
“we need some blue sky thinking”
    “do you embrace the change?”
    “its like herding cats”

Just some of the bull shit that I heard today working for BT.

i have the 2.0 TDCI – great car. Mega torque and reasonable power 136bhp. I looked into chipping and decided against it. theres loads of stuff on the web regarding it. Pro’s and cons.

it works against them. As I never check their site out anymore for that very reason. Might hook the occasional person in but just serves to piss peeps off.

Great forks for the Heckler, but two of my friends with them eventually converted to spring due to constant problems with reliability. Dont know anything about “phase two”.
Airs ride plush with reasonable good compression damping ramping up well towards end stroke.

On some occasions yes and others definately not. Its objective. NIMBYs would like to think that the worlds not that bad a place but in reality conflict brings out the worst in us.

Check for Diesel particulate filter / additive and dual mass flywheel/clutch. Both very expensive. Full service histroy only.

TBH I would buy an Audi as servicing and parts are top whack. Save a wedge and get something less flashy.

For me its more about cornering grip versus rolling resistance. Grippy on the front and low rolling and slidy on the back. Its okay if the rear takes the occasional holiday! 😉

I had same problem about a year ago. I bought a seal kit from Mojo stripped them down and replaced all seals that I could see. replaced lube and rebuilt. They have worked great ever since. Timing the talas can be a pain in the arse though so beware.

I’ve had very similar problems to yourself with Focus 2.0 Tdci 2005.

Turns out that the eolys oil thats used as an adative hadnt been topped up during its 37k service and that meant a gradual blocking of the diesel particulate filter.
I went to Ford main dealer and sked why this hadnet happened ( I bought the car at 38K). They explained that the car must have been a fleet car and that fleet managers usually opt not to have it done.
    I have two options.
1 – Pay £200 for oil top up/ ECU reset and DPF regen.
if that doesnt work Ford want £475 for a DPF and £200 to fit!!!!

2 – get the car a delete pipe and have the ECU remapped to null the DPF sensors and eolys oil sensors.

Problem with first is the expence.
Problem with second is that I’m not ceratin that it would pass an emissions test during MOT.

    Total nightmare.

BTW – before everyone starts to blame Ford, most if not all diesel car manufaturers have used this DPF as a work round to Euro4 which was an emmisions rule introduced in 2005.
VW/Audi are by far the worst as a dpf for audi a4 is £1100 parts only!

    Jedi,

IMO coming up short on any gap drop or double is much worse that overshooting it.

Speed /skill are your friends in most occasions.

Over rough ground momentum and bike skill are the major factors.

Take head off to relieve tension.
    Boil kettle.

Pour slowly over hub and screw.

Once hot try turning out with mole grips.

If not successful. cut across screw and turn repeat but this time use screwdriver.

    Saints for:
Power, Looks, mineral oil, ease of bleed and modulation when moving (feel on/off in car park test). No fade / boil over. Pads last for ages
    Saints against:
Spare parts seem to be non existant. Expensive pads

    Hope for:
Power, Looks and spare parts. No fade unless you use sintered. Hope after service.
    Hope against.
Corrode easily – Road salt kils them. Sometimes hard to bleed.

I’ve personally used both for downhill both a re amazingly powerfull and fill you with ocnfidance. I’m currently still running Saints, but it was more a financila descision that anything else.

    They’re both great

Watching this thread with interest as I’m considering chnaging from 2×9 to 1×10 in teh near future on my trail bike.

The only advantage I can see at the moment seems to be teh ability to drop front mech and run single riung up front.

I would be running a chain device to which would negate loss of fornt mech.

Suppose the bars may look a bit less cluttered.
