Ontop of that diesel cars of that erra are all running Dual mass fly wheels these are at best unreliable. Stick to a petrol.
supertackyFree MemberAt that kind of mileage you’ll not heat the exaust up enough to clean the DPF in the exhaust. Can be a very expensivething to get sorted out. DPF filter range from 400-800 and the eolys oil adative tank requires to be refilled on major services.
Deffo go petrol
I’m running the 2.0 version but do much higher mileage. The car itself is great. Just avoif euro 4 & 5 engines for deisel across most if not all manufacturers. Emmisions laws made them fit alot of expensive crap on the engines to make them pass the new laws.
supertackyFree MemberYeti 575 climbs really well maintaining good traction, but it rips on the way down. I’m sooo impressed with it.
supertackyFree MemberIve owned an 08 and this years model.
Very capable bike.
What would you like to know?
supertackyFree MemberBlimey!
Good effort in one day.we did it in three last year. Highly rated experience I’d repeat in a minute.
I just couldnt even consider doing it in a day. Just no where near fit enough.
Good luck mate!
supertackyFree MemberIncredibly unpredictable. Okay in the dry. But they give up quicker than the French in damp conditions and are lethal in the wet on hard.
On the other hand I’ve found Barrons to be excellent!supertackyFree MemberZero compatability between rear shifters and mechs for what its worth as they have differing leverage ratios.
You will be able to run a nine speed front on a ten speed set up, but it wont be precise.
supertackyFree MemberSimple answer is no they are not the same.
The cage width is substantially different between a 9 and a 10 speed Shimano front mech meaning that its difficult (but not impossible) to get the chain to run through it at either end of the rear cassette extremities without rub and associated noise.
I spent hours trying to get my 2×9 working with a 10 speed front Shimano. Replaced it with a nine speed one and had it set up in five minutes.supertackyFree MemberElbows up. Hands loose. Weight outside pedal. Look ahead. lean bike .Steer with hips no with rapid hands.
Pump all downslopes for free speed. Ride light and fast on roots.
Brake very hard in a straight line then get off the brakes as much as possible. Its all going on in my head…..
haha
supertackyFree Member“You must be a secondary school teacher working in an Academy.”
Miles off neilm.
Although reading the thread has opened my eyes to the very similar way in which were all being manipulated.
Today I was told that there was no fiscal correlation to our “targets”. There was just an expectation that the business needed to improve!!!
What a crock of BS.
So no matter what our output is there’s always going to be someone at the bottom of the bandwidth getting bullied and harassed until they either are sacked, accept a compromise deal or go sick with stress.
I’m so disillusioned its not real
this cant be good for a business or organisation in the long term??
supertackyFree MemberHa ha Lucien that’s exactly what it feels like!
Its like a George Orwell novel. What is the end game? It started as a requirement to increase productivity and reduce costs but has spiralled downwards into constant reorganisation followed by immediate appraisements of staff.
The bar rises and another load of people get put in the mincer. IMO not always the worst of staff either.Head reduction seems to be the name of the game.
Truly awful environment to try and succeed in.
supertackyFree Member3 days.
Was pushed into making a very quick decision on taking a secondment whilst working with a large telecoms company.
Three days later I’m at an induction event and advised that I would be working away form home two out of four weeks effectively baby sitting young telecoms apprentices at a training college. The previous manager had chucked it after an extremely stressful disciplinary involving allegations of physical violence, drug taking and rape!
More hours, less pay, potentially huge amounts of stress yeah that a great deal you corporate idiots.supertackyFree MemberFrom the website – “Spectators can bring their bikes to the World Cup but will not be allowed to take them on the gondola. Alpine Bikes sponsor the Alpine Bike Park, just beside the main entrance where you can leave your bike – but remember to bring your lock.”
supertackyFree Memberyeah forgot to say that there is a secure bike park. Just take a lock and join all your bikes up in teh bike park. Usually overlooked by the police. We’ve never had any problems. Usually about a thousand bike in there.
supertackyFree MemberCamping at Lochy Caravan site. Booking in advance essential.
Good atmosphere and reasonably easy peddle up for the day.supertackyFree MemberWe’ve been going for the last three years with our kids and its great.
Take you bikes and ride up from Fort William (cycle paths full way). Its pretty expensive when taking kids so we usually go for a ride on Saturday on local trails, BBQ on Saturday night and then pedal up for a family day out on the Sunday. Pay on the gate as you cant be sure what the weathers going to be like. Gondola ticket if its nice weather.Loads to see and do at the bottom.
Take loads of skin so soft for the midges.
Take cash too as credit card facilities seem to be beyond most of the traders in the pits.
Then race down the cycle path with all the other kids back to Fort Bill
supertackyFree MemberYour dimmer may be running at full load. Count the wattage of all lights that it controls and check with the load capacity of the dimmer.
supertackyFree MemberI’m 1×9 with straightline silent guard. 32 up front and 36-11 on the rear no issues. would probably get away with a 34 up front but for steep sustained Scottish climbs I like having the option.
Bike is silent apart from tyre noise.
Great.
I wont be going back to 2 or 3 rings up front.
supertackyFree MemberOur group of idiots rode three or four of the “Off piste” trails on near the Innerleithen Golf course.
Muddy Madness! Cant wait to get back up there!
supertackyFree MemberOrangejohn – Yes!
Policy has changed for existing old policy members.
Where as old policy members had new for old home and away up to 4K we now have-
up to 2K on pedal bikes after that its secified items which attract extra premuim.
supertackyFree MemberM&S wanted another £60+ to add 1 £4k bike!
That’s nowhere near as much as I was expecting, and not all that bad to be honest (I’m seriously doubting you can do better than 1.5% of value).
I think the point he’s making is that M&S arent exactly cheap in the first place.
We’ve all been paying much higher premiums already due to our adiction to shiney new bikes. Its £60 + the extra that its costs already to go with M&S which in my case is at least £150supertackyFree MemberOW hats a good shout. The auto renewal process can sometimes be bettered by lapsing and then reapplying.
I’ll try that later.
Nobby.
I’m nearly at the stage your at. Saving a couple of hundered quid and going for standard Buildings and contents and then just being super carefull. TBH My bikes are never out of my sight and when in my garage are locked to the concrete floor.
supertackyFree MemberOW
I mentioned the custom nature of the bikes. She only wanted a manufacturer/model/ age and value.
However , In the past I’ve been surprised at how easily the Value increases beyond initial guestimates. 😀
My LBS offer a service to do an inventory and record on headed letter incase of insurance claims later on. I just thought it would be prudent given that I suspect that if I had under valued my bikes in any way they may wriggle out of a claim on a specified item.OW
My renewal price has increased marginally (less than 3%) but thats on the new (useless) policy. With the addition of my bikes its increased a further 20%, but thats me giving them an off the cuff value that I’ve yet to have confirmed.GOD this really takes the fun out of biking!!!!
supertackyFree MemberSheilas Wheels require specification on bikes beyond £500 in value so Dont see the advantage? Can you expain? Or have I just wasted 10mins of my time reading the policy booklet?
supertackyFree MemberMy M&S policy has changed from any item up to 4K home and away to unsecified pedal cycles £2k.
I’ll play along for now head down to LBS and get an inventory done and see how much adding my two bikes impacts the already higher than average renewal price.
I’ve been told that specialist insurance runs at about 10% of the value of your bikes. Thats double my car insurance for the same period!
I’ve never claimed insurance of any sort in the past.

supertackyFree MemberThink the majority of the swelling is due to the injection of solution into the knee to create a gap/space for the equipment. I found that by getting into the physio nice and early it tended to dissipate the fluid which reduced the swelling quickly.
Only been left with two 10mm scars
supertackyFree MemberPosterior meniscus tear.Full weight bearing on the day. Only short walks less than 100 mtrs in the first week,Back to work in Three weeks. Ironicly the biggest problem with going back to work was driving my car and depressing the clutch pedal.Bike in four. Fully back to normal around 8 weeks.
I’m so glad I went in for the Op. Was getting pretty worried about the pain and effects it was having on my life.
supertackyFree MemberI assume your running a ten speed front mech and the XTR chainset is a ten speed?
I had issues before trying when I mistakenly fitted a ten speed from with a 9 speen chainset.
If compatability aint your problem revisit the set up of your front mech.
supertackyFree MemberHeading South I’d recon a good easy day would be to hit Glencoe possibly the Kingshouse or Glencoe Ski centre Hobbit houses.
supertackyFree MemberA group of four of us did it last year in the May heat wave. Three and a half days from South to North. Stayed at Rowardennan, Tyndrum, then Kinloch Leven.
Train home from Fort William added to an extremely memorable trip.
The carry at the north end of the loch wasnt too bad about 2 hours up and down. Good opertunity to chat with walkers and other path users.
I havent done it North to South and would be interested in doing so, but in my minds eye I think it may well be a better ride South to North considering some of the amazing descents that we did…
Good luck its a great trip
supertackyFree MemberMolegrips has it right.
Hugely expensive way of owning nothing at all.
Leasing aFocus 2.0 TDCI over 36months works out at about 11K.
Buy a three year old example for about 7.5K save yourself a small fortune
supertackyFree MemberNot a huge difference, but depends if your struggling with the 34-34.
I’m on a 32 – 36 , hardly ever use that combo but at the end of a long ride it can be handy.
supertackyFree MemberBar Robbo shuts at about seven which is exactly the amount of time it takes to consume five large Mutzigs
supertackyFree MemberBecause smashing un-caged pedals of rocks on the trail is expensive.
I’ve got them and use them with shimano shoes. I dont sign up to the “more support” part but enjoy using the extra platform when I unintentional unclip on steap descents etc…
