Entered every one but this is the one that I’d really have loved.

On to the next one, be good to see a thread from a winner building theirs up

I sympathise OP. Only been out once so far but my XL sleeping bag took up the whole of my alpkit handlebar bag and even then it was tough to stash it in, took quite a bit of effort! I’ve since invested into an ortelieb fork bag which hopefully will take a hydrant or similar

    Transition Transam?

Or latest Bird hardtails, not sure if the forge has udh but the newer zero does I believe

Facebook and pinkbike and you’ll get a sale if you are realistic about prices (bear in mind it’s a relatively old bike, second hand market is dead, plenty of new bargains out there on credit).

Sadly never sold anything of note on here even when the marketplace wroked and was more active than it is now.

My bet is a micro leak even if no visible oil.

Identiti AKA? Can’t find weight anywhere (may not be a good sign!) but decent geometry and price. Can even run 650 or 29

Those Whyte 90 series hardtails were amazing. Can’t believe they have dropped them!

Guide REs sub £45 on tredz. Looks like rear only but my go to brake for power vs vfm

    Great example. So many cracked.

i can fully appreciate the labour of love that went into it.

I’m “only” 42 but remember by brother having a Saracen trekker with a u brake.

Deore 2 x chainsets look to be around £50? Sell your cranks and pop new ones on?

    Great result all round.
    let’s see a photo when it’s built up 👍

The chainstays feel shorter than my Nukeproof Scout and it’s easier to manual over trail features

    scout has 10mm shorter chainstays.

oranges are normally terrible vfm but that looks a good build for the price. Personally I’d go for something else as don’t want the weight penalty but it sounds like this will do you good 👍

IXS for me, plus some nukeproof (rip).

Other ones I tried without a “complete” mesh back – presumably to make them less sweaty – tended to rub the back of my knees raw.

I think they’re very individual though, not sure there’s a shortcut to trying loads and being prepared to sell in if they don’t work for you (which you’ll only know after an hour plus of riding). For example tried two sweet protection which obviously work for others but not for me.

Plenty of decent wheelsets around for less than £300

This is replacing a ss bike or are you now wanting gears?

My order from the genuine giro website also cancelled. Shame but had low expectations given it was an obvious pricing error. Will carry on wearing my 13 year old shimano shoes 😂

Late to this, but I thought the commentary was excellent but the camera work / actual footage was pretty poor. Didn’t seem to have enough shots of the more interesting parts of the track but a lot of the slower / exposed early sections where not much happened. A lot of shots of passing cable cars 😂

Think you’re slightly missing the point. It’s mostly as a gateway into motocross, getting kids used to an engine whilst they’re young. Not sure it’s because a child is too lazy to pedal

Sorry for the hijack – I have a 3×3 tarp from alpkit and was planning on using the bike but sounds like the pole is a better idea. They have two fixed length poles, is bigger better (120 and 170cm fwiw). Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Not sure I’d agree Joe, I’m with suspended animation on this – the trek just seems to need a lot of tlc. Whether it’s because it’s not well thought out for UK I don’t know, but as rider in all uk conditions I never need to change as much

Pinkbike and Facebook marketplace would be my choices. Both can be painful but thems the breaks.

Reading any post with a quote of a previous comment, that quote box is black with black text meaning you can’t read it unless you put screen brightness on max, get some glasses, a magnifying glass and squint. Never used to be like that.

    on my iPhone at least

    What Jam bo said

if you’re going in thinking of changing brakes, wheels and groupset I’d probably start somewhere else or just build from frame only

Alpkit bikepacking kit is great albeit don’t have a huge amount to compare it to

Don’t like the look of any e-bikes really (transition repeater aside) but that is very nice 👌

The marked blue and red are not great IMO, but the DH runs mentioned are a lot of fun, just tiring if you are pedalling / pushing up after each run 😂

Those fibrax spiral things work well initially but I find that they do move so you can’t really guarantee they’ll be where you need.

any helicopter tape or similar is good, or I have also used lizard skin patches before

They’re hugely overbuilt, like a stiffer Lyrik, damping is basic but adequate. They can pack down a bit like old RS forks were prone to doing, but you have to be really hammering along pretty rough trails to notice.
completely fair, I’ll take that back.

Still think the whole thing is a bit odd. price and spec seem off, as does the intended use / marketing. No doubt a heavy discount to that rrp is incoming which may make it more appealing.

Never heard of the engine manufacturer? But not in the e market do might just be my own ignorance.

Looks a bit like a bad copy of a 90’s orange missile, but appreciate that’s the norm. Not sure I’d fancy those forks to cope with the bike weight given its being marketed as a downhill bike. All a bit odd, and I say that as someone who quite likes some of their stuff

I had a whyte 905, but on XL size (only) they put a 35mm rise bar as standard. Plenty of cheap bars out there at the moment to try, definitely worth experimenting

Known issue with the occam is the shock bolt being made of aluminium. They sell a replacement steel for £10 (same again for postage from the EU).

Having tried a lot and think Guide Res are probably the best bang for your buck. Mine have been completely hassle free which is nice after coming from shimano (lovely but micro leaks). Tredz were doing them for £50 an end so half of your budget.

You’d think STW would get the scoop on these being close to Barnoldswick yet Pinkbike and several other sources beat them to the press release.

They’ll put a piece up on it in a day or two and close this thread like they do every time the forum starts discussing something before they do a write up.

I think Komoot is ok – have found a few bits localist to me. Have also followed a few bits away from home including a decent Quantocks loop
