I was going to say – in the 80’s, there were cruisers, with their own classification in racing and everything. I think they were 24” but I might well be wrong.

…. All of my work stresses and strains melting away.

I saved up for one if these for ages and ages in the 80’s – £79.95 iirc for a frame and forks. Already had a cheapo donor BMX that had been slowly upgraded. Went into the bike shop in Grimsby all bright eyed and bushy tailed near Christmas to get one, and they had sold out. Gutted. They took pity on me and sold me a very slightly shop soiled display model GT Pro Performer frame and forks for the same money. We were dirt poor at the time and it was the first really nice bike I owned!

Nearly finished mine, after nearly 3 years (had all the bits but a house purchase meant I just didn’t have time to put it together) – just a few bits of tinkering and fettling. The lower chainstay cross member appears to have a threaded hole in it, which I presume is for mounting a mudguard. I fancy blocking it from grime with a well greased bolt – can anyone tell me what size it is? Is it the same size as the bottle cage bolts?

Sorted. Found a packet of Jagwire ‘mikey’ adjusters that fit perfectly in the mech. It’s all adjusted up and shifting fine. Ta for everyone’s help.

Thanks for the generous offer, but I think I’ve got some hiding somewhere from when I last built up a cross bike. I think I checked when I was getting the parts together for this build and 10 speed SRAM pull ratios are the same for road / MTB, but I guess I’ll find out! 🙂

Part of the problem is that I got all the bits together in 2017, but am only just putting it together!

Does that mean I’ve made a bit of a boo boo trying to mate it with SRAM 10 speed road shifters? I’m thinking they don’t have cake adjustment built in and I’m going to need an in line adjuster if some kind?

Oh come on, 15 posts and nobody has done this?

I do between 50 and 80k a year in my company motor. Until about a year ago, I only used to fill up at Morrison’s and Tesco with my old fuel card. Then we changed to a new one that can only be used at branded fuel stations, and in my patch that means BP. I have noticed no difference in performance or reliability whatsoever.

It would have probably been quicker than taking the photo and writing the posts…

Indeed, but I’m in the middle of a renovating a house, and the last thing I needed was some council jobsworth turning up and causing grief

Almost certainly a con. DHL would deliver item, then invoice you for any taxes plus an admin fee. They would do this by post, not email, in my experience.

Bad photo, I’m afraid, but it’s 50-60 mm to the bottom of the rounded bit.

I’d be happy with any solution that a) wouldn’t get me into any grief and b) would stop battering our cars. From what people are saying, it sounds like it’s worth chatting with the council.

That’s what I was thinking along the lines of, but I’m wondering if there is some kind of defined standard as to how harsh the ‘bump’ into the property has to be before the curb is regarded as not ‘dropped’ enough. Prob best just to as the council.

Bit if a first world problem I know, but it does feel like it is battering my and the better halfs cars.

Socket set came early, store rang me this morning and I went to collect it, £9.40 something with BC discount. Happy days.

Got me spanners, and BC discount worked, taking them under the £4 mark. Sockets should be arriving at another store on Tuesday; hold out less hope for them, but fingers crossed!

    Do, it’s done.

Went for the separate bottle of latex / bag of compound option, and it was a bit of a pain to get smooth, but it leveled up the for a treat. Used expanding foam as a bund around units.

Laminate / underlay is now down and looks ace.

Thanks for all the tips & advice.

Thanks for all the advice; I’m still removing the tiles with a trusty SDS drill and tile chisel.

First half all came up easy as pie, but left their tile adhesive behind. I’ve had a little tickle at this will the drill and it appears to come off fairly cleanly.

Second half seem to be stuck down with some kind of superhero strength tile adhesive, and are coming off in small (very small) chunks, which is time consuming, but the bonus is they bring the adhesive cleanly off with them.

Not entirely sure, but it looks like they were laid on a layer of self leveling compound, that appears to be pretty much in tact, but we’ll see when I’ve finished.

My bad; didn’t explain the the units are in place, I’m changing the floor in an existing kitchen.

Waste wood sounds good, do i need to seal the bottom edges with anything to stop the compound, not sure how viscous it is?

I’ve got a Lidl one; works well for less than £30, has lasted over 4 years, maintaining 4-6 bikes of various types.

Hemsby was spot on, just want I was looking for; kids enjoyed the relatively stone free sand, and I managed to brave the thin band of stones to get up to waist height and have a proper swim.

    Cheers folks!

Just mailed mine in. 156, so dropped one of the pounds I put back on, two pounds to go.

Off on holiday for a week, so looking unlikely to hit my target, but if I end up two pounds or so off, I won’t be too upset.

Perhaps a week of monster bike rides just before the last weigh in? 🙂

If you want to dabble with flared drops, a cheaper, lighter alternative to the slightly less flared ones, like cowchippers, are Giant Connect XR Drops, which can be had for fifteen quid or so.

I am, of course, joshing. Just lightening the tone a bit. 8)

It will be the first time ever I hadn’t kept all of my bikes in the house, which is a bit weird, but it’s a decent sized garage, double skinned, longer than usual, and pretty secure, so it should be ok. I have the added benefit of a nearly new 12′ x 10′ substantial wooden shed that I’ve obtained to put next to the garage for use as a workshop, so the garage can be a ‘clean’ room. I will need to find someone with a crane to lift it in place, but I think I may have that sorted.

Just got to get the lawyers to stop dragging their feet so we can get moved in.

Look a bit expensive compared to these which are also fractionally lighter and don’t come with Planet X’s ‘unique’ attitude to customer service?

I did 3k / 10k / 3k duathlon; I wore running tights. The bike bit is over dead quick, and I didn’t notice the lack of a pad. On top, I can’t remember at all; probably a cycling jersey I suspect.

    Thanks for the advice folks.

I can’t laminate over the top, as the potential house has a knock through kitchen diner type of arrangement; the kitchen is tiled and the diner carpeted. I also want to extend the laminate into the large hallway so it all needs to be on the same level.

Given that, does that mean if I have to resort to self leveling screed stuff, I will have to do the whole area I want to laminate in order to get it level? The hall, in particular, is massive (for a hallway).

Just emailed mine in late; in the middle of trying to buy a house but is taking forever despite no chain either end. Ho hum, anyhows, had packed the scales away in anticipation of moving so got them out today.

No change since last weigh in, which is disappointing, but onwards and upwards!

I live on the coast, not far from Donna Nook / Mablethorpe.

As has been hinted at, both Mablethorpe and Skegness will be rammed on a bank holiday weekend, but will quieten down as the week progresses. It can be a bit rough and ready, as has been said, but it has its charms. The beck in Mablethorpe does a cracking carvery, despite its chav appearance, but I would avoid this Sunday as it will be rammed.

Sutton on Sea is nice; the beach is good and the place is a a bit less run down than Mablethorpe. The Dolphin chippy does a cracking sit down haddock special. The millennium cycleway that runs between Mablethorpe and Sutton is a nice family friendly cycle / long walk.

Donna Nook is pretty in the sun, if you like nature and if you venture that way, the Axe & Clever in North Somercotes is good for food and real ale; a proper country pub, has a play area, although I’m biased as its my boozer. 🙂

Drop me an email if you need any specific local info, I’m sure between me and my mates we can point you in the right direction.

    Hope you have fun!

I am in the position of having a moral objection to the four candidates I will have a choice of which means I can’t even hold my nose and vote for the least worst option. That would have left me in the position of having to spoil my paper, until a monster raving loony candidate threw his hat into the ring. He’ll get my vote now.
