I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone from anywhere with anything good to say about Britain in the last 25 years!

Yunki, you need to get out more!

    Some food for thought:

I’d go with the Hitachi. I gave up on Makita about ten years ago. They’re solid but not quite as good as they could be, and my little 3″ belt sander is forever bunging up or getting a sticky switch. It’s on it’s third replacement switch.
Hitachi, on the other hand, are well thought out, and slightly better made.
They’re both 610mm belts, the Hitachi is over a kg lighter, which helps, and cheaper.
    Me, I’d get the Hitachi.

I did that once, in the boil wash.
The blades opened much more easily afterwards. The pen hadn’t leaked and it wrote first time!

So would USPS deliver it the whole way ? I’d imagined they would definiely just shove it onto RM once it got to the UK

If the parcel is big then you’ll need “global priority” which will finish it’s journey with parcelfarce.
If it’s small it should go first class which arrives via the Royal Mail, quicker and more cheaply than global priority.
I can’t remember the size cutoffs.
    https://ircalc.usps.com/

As a rough guide a bike frame would cost about $75 to send, arrive in the UK in 2-3 days then sit around in customs for a week or so.
Something football sized would arrive on your doorstep in the same time, but if duty is payable, a bit longer.

I’ve never had a problem with USPS. It’s not as quick through customs as Fedex, DHL etc, but they don’t think of a number and double it to assess the import duty.

If you want speed then UPS is good.

Where is the start of the trail? I assume it’s over the other side and not into the Punchbowl itself?

    Spending (rounded figures)

    Leave £2.7m
Remain £15.3m = £6m (mostly corporate donations inc from banks etc) plus £9.3m of government money

Where did you get those figures from?

Maybe the Brexiteers are planning a splurge..?

My Fell x Border terrier gets itchy during the summer, apparently caused by some kind of mite.
A hose down after a walk helps, as does a good diet. Many dog fuds contain wheat of the poorest quality which does them or their skin no favours at all. We feed ours “Lily’s Kitchen”. Pricey, but stuffed full of good things, and they they love it.
There is a supplement available for ponies and dogs called “ultimate oil” which works wonders for itchy skin.

    http://www.kmeliteproducts.co.uk/Pet/km-elite-canine-ultimate-oil-500ml

Half a teaspoon in their nosh and after a few weeks they’re cushtie, and a lot hairier!

As a last resort, there’s a tablet from your vet called Apoquel. Pricey but fewer side effects than steroids.

But the Volvo isn’t pretty, so the thread is null and void.

    +1

But it is on sale today, unlike the truly pretty cars in this thread.
There are very few really pretty cars on sale today, and this is the prettiest!

but it ain’t all about money and powah,

Prettier by far than the “retro” efforts from fiat, vw, etc…

I managed a few trips to the Alps for mountain biking with them no problem.

Is there room for a bike in the back or is it a roof job?
I’m thinking of the estate version, whatever it’s called, and there are a couple of JCWs available locally. Worth a premium over the S?

a Mk2 (Cooper S JCW) and despite the JCW being more powerful it was also the most fuel efficient car I have ever owned!

What are they like to own? Reliable, comfy, etc?

New dividend rule came in this tax year where the first £5k of dividend income is tax free so having a spouse as a shareholder could be useful!

And basic rate taxpayers only pay 7.5% tax on divis.
    Higher rate pay 32.5%.
So even if she works you could save money.

Solicitor would be a good idea, how do you know its theirs to sell, land registry, was it built with planning permission, access rights etc ? Solicitor shouldn’t be mkre than a couple of hundred so very worthwhile I would say.

Not in my experience. I’ve done the S&S ISAs with “platform” providers and the like, and no where near as good as they make out, meanwhile they’re cashing in on fees from each investment.

Exactly the same with a “platform” pension I got convinced into investing in. Absolute garbage yet I’m seeing £1000s in fees disappearing.

I’ve dabbled in actual S&S and made some decent returns myself. I don’t do it now as it takes way too much of my time to keep on top of it.

How does dabbling in “actual” S&S save you the fees that ISAs have lost you?
Generally, for a given broker, they’re the same charges.

    suburbanreuben

If you want to make decent money from stocks and shares, you need to properly get into trading and be prepared to move things about frequently,

    Absolute rubbish!

For long term I’d drip feed it into a stocks and shares ISA. Depending on platform provider you can buy funds for no charge, or shares, trusts etc for a couple of quid commission.
Diversify your investments to spread the risk and you should amass a tidy sum over the years. You can cash them in at any time, but that’s not really the point.
    S&S ISA providers include:

    https://www.youinvest.co.uk/
    http://www.hl.co.uk/

    and many others…

The Superb is known for being MASSIVE and the magazines all love it. I don’t think you’d find it lacking in luxury – Top Gear magazine were comparing it to an E Class a few months ago.

Yeahbut, the magazines get to give them back after a few days. They don’t have to spend three years with an eyesore on the drive, or p1ssheads shouting “Taxi” at them.

They are in a different leagues in both build quality and refinement. The more I drive my Octavia the more that I appreciate the wifes BMW.

    nuff said!

Those are Nationwode figures, the new data I posted is from the Land Registry, the only data you can rely on I’d say.

I always thought the Land Registry figures were issued 3 months late- the most reliable due to being analysed thoroughly, but 3 months out of date.
Have they got with the program, or something?

Stick it in a pension for them? No use at 18/21, but probably far more useful in the long run.

As they’re not tax payers there is no point sticking it in a pension. Stick it in a savings account and once they start paying tax then it can go in a pension.

They’ll still get the 20% top up, tax payer or not, on £2880 per year.
They’ll thank you in 40 years time!
