    A Norris smoothing plane ,

I bought one a couple of weeks back, and , my god, it’s brilliant! Nearly a hundred years old, a bit tatty looking, but it pisses over any other plane I’ve ever used. Now on the lookout for one of their jointers…

And do you have Right of Way over this road?

I looked at buying some woodland a few years back. Access was usually a problem…

“cleaning the bladder is more of a faff than washing a bottle, as is drying it,

After the bladder has soaked in clean water with a drip of washing up liquid/Dettol surface cleaner/baking soda and rinsed out, wrap your hand in a clean tea towel and stick it inside, you can easily reach the far corners and dry it out, it’s not difficult”

    Precisely; it’s a faff!

“sounds like its’ actually just veneered wood rather than true ply.”

Which would be fortunate, as broken ply would be a mess inside.

    Any pics of the edge?

Just glue it with Titebond.  cramp it up and use 1 or 2 temporary battens at 90 deg to keep it flat.

    Report it via   FixMyStreet

The report is then in the public domain , not just buried away on some To Do list, and they are more likely to act quickly.  I had some long overgrown and forgotten paths near my old place, 20 years+ of neglect – and they were cleared within 2 weeks.

Drawers and runners can be found here:   Furniture fittings, architectural hardware, electronic locking systems – Häfele (hafele.co.uk)

and will be better quality than any of the big name stores.

The trickyest thing is finding matching drawer fronts, but if they’re behind the existing door it ain’t a problem.

The units may well be drilled to accept drawers already. The drawers may need to be set back a bit to clear the hinges, but that really ain’t a problem…

“which seem to keep my whole leg warmer below the knee”

Think how much warmer your whole legs would feel if you kept them warm above the knee too…

Keep your blood warm on the way down and it will still be warm enough to warm your feet when it gets there!

Reynauds sufferer here too –  When it’s really cold I reach for the long johns, not thicker socks.

Have they salted the roads recently ? If not, there’s every possibility a Dino may be out and about.  And they are tiny compared to today’s cars…

“I have stolen the kids plastercine which should help with the fine details but this thing is about 50cm x 50cm x 30cm which is a big lump of clay.  Even with the large hollowed out bits,  it uses a lot of material.2

But it’s cheap, or free if you fancy some digging, and eventually will harden, unlike plasticene.

Form it over an aluminium mesh, as used in plastering, and also bendable/alterable, and it doesn’t need to be solid.

make a wooden former and away you go…

“Proper scraper kept clean and sharp. Heat if it’s being a dick.”

    +1.

If its old paint bear in mind that it may contain lead, so heating it too much may release lead compounds to the atmosphere.

But scraping is the best way, especially if you have children or animals. It’s a dirty and time consuming job whichever way you do it.

Who labelled it a “Conference ” call? Was it just the two of you?

Maybe she wanted to get her money’s worth?

Re-label it a” call” and it will be all the briefer.

You make it, unscheduled, preferably when you think she may be busy.

Wouldn’t it be simpler just to vote the current old farts out of office? It’s the time of year for new beginnings, and I assume the AGM is coming up? If as you say, the junior section provides the majority of  members, or do the junior members, and their parents, have no vote?

How do you get on with the other employees/future shareholders?

Is there to be sufficient working capital in the business, either overdraft facility or loan from the current owner?

Is he selling because he wants the business to thrive, or just to wriggle out of his obligations?

Check Autotrader. Tick “Private sales only”. It’s the first port of call for many people when selling a car.

    Nice people sell nice cars!

Selling a car may be the last thing on peoples’ minds at Christmas time, but so is buying one. There are bargains to be had.

It “might” be OK once the fungus has gone, but it may already have started de-laminating, and it may be a mm or two thicker than it once was, and soggy…

I wouldn’t use it anywhere rigidity is required, a  balance bike fr’instance.

Also watching with interest:   Back in March I had a tia, and consequently a whole raft of tests.

my hbac level back in march was 36. I gave up a lot of culinary pleasures:  Beer, butter, bread, bacon, caffeine,  sugar, salt and wine, and although I had what I thought of as a healthy diet, made it more healthy- plenty of greens and far fewer root vegies.

In the next 3 months I lost 12kg and felt so much better! So when a 3 month follow up blood test showed my hbac had soared to 41 (diabetic is 45+) I was a bit miffed. So I gave up bananas too.

Still feel great, still 12kg lighter, and waiting for another follow up test after Christmas.

Good luck OP, you’re not alone…

Definitely get a 2nd opinion, even if it is one of the big chains, and a 3rd or 4th if possible.

What you describe used to be routine for any British Leyland car when I were a lad, and the basics ain’t changed that much, despite all this electrickery. A new engine, whilst not unheard of, is pretty rare at 60000 miles, even 40 years ago…
