Does anyone use their kitchen worktops for preparing food anymore or are they just used for displaying unnecessary gadgets?

Someone I know actually did this, hooked up with a woman who owned a pub, used to close it at weekends, bank holidays when it should be busy, then shut it because it ‘wasn’t viable’. Ha! No, of course it wasn’t.
Ultimately got planning for change of use, and sold it for a significant amount of money, due to the south Cotswolds location, near Castle Combe.

A landlord tried to do this with a pub near me. Was a miserable git, kept manky beer, closed early and generally dissuaded customers. As a pub, even a going concern it was worth maybe £250k; as a private house it was possibly worth a million, even ten years ago. (Three horseshoes, Thursley, Surrey) He tried to argue that the pub wasn’t a going concern as there was no custom. The villagers persuaded the planners otherwise and formed a company to buy the pub. It’s now thriving; good food but still a proper pub. Best to stop on the way down from the Punchbowl, not on the way up…

Having dealt with lots of tradespeople over the years, the only ones who have insisted on big sums up front, then pestered for interim payments, have been wastes of space. YMMV and all that, but this has been my experience.

There’s nowt wrong with asking, or indeed, getting interim payments during a long job, as long as the work invoiced has been completed.
There’s one hell of a lot of trust involved, for both sides, when you get tradesmen into your home. Expecting someone to stump up for materials and then work unpaid for two or three weeks, or months, is unrealistic, but a few days really isn’t.

He should meet my electrician; the extension (with kitchen re-fit) has been finished for over a year, but he still hasn’t put his final bill in. It was three months after completion before he put in his “interim”.

Probably got a few of these waiting until he retires/has a long holiday…

Remember, most builders merchants and their suppliers will be closed until the new year. Plumbers merchants should be OK though, but maybe usual suppliers are shut?

If you really must, give him another £600 once the sanitary ware is on site, but no more until the job is completed to your satisfaction.
Their cash flow isn’t your problem.

    Why’s that?

Sent a few frames to Europe, inc Germany. Never had any problems. Probably about £40-50.

    suburbanreuben

Maybe. The side blinds need to go back a bit and if the centre was a bit narrower it might work. It’ll still look shit though. I bet the fitter was cursing the salesman..!

    suburbanreuben

You wanted one big central blind. That’s what you’ve got!
If you’d gone for 5 blinds then the joint angles would have been shallower and it would have looked OK, as per the other window. I assume you saved a fair bit by having one big blind?

I think it is legal – but I am supprised. Other properties everything was done through the DPS and we even got interest

Find out. If it isn’t legal and your deposit isn’t held where it should be you could get 3x the deposit returned.

I’ll have a cup in Italy, where it tastes nice and doesn’t cost much.

Though I have also been known to take my own teapot away, to ensure a decent supply of the good stuff.

Indeed. You can’t get a decent cup of coffee in the UK, and you can’t get a decent cup of tea abroad.

Her story may change once she gets an estimate for repairing 3-4 panels. Check with the supermarket whether they have CCTV coverage of that area. Going through your insurance may be the only way to persuade them to release a copy.

Yes how dare you ask about different colours of borders on a forum that has many members with them, even worse some members have borders for 40 years

    Sadly, that’s all he asked.

You’ve done the right thing Chuck the breeder sounds reputable too.

I think a reputable dealer would have managed to get the paper work done on time.
A reputable dealer wouldn’t be producing puppies for the Christmas market.

Borders are great little dogs and justifiably popular. Unfortunately this does mean that dodgy characters will take advantage of this demand.
I don’t think I’d be returning a pup there. If he’s lucky he’ll find someone who’ll fix him up, or give him a happy loving home for his short life. (Was he in pain?)
Unfortunately this thread seems to be a lesson in how not to get a dog. The OP’s only concern was getting the right colour.

If I’d have kept him I’d have been forced to have him put down, I couldn’t bare to see him suffer and lost the money I paid for him

The irony of the thread title…

No, the electrons move from one side to the other, you don’t get more electrons.
    Are you positive about that?

You can definitely feel the difference in a man sized drill during the working day
