Get a pre 2007 Subaru Forester, an STI import if you want properly quick (0-60 in the 4s). Small enough to be agile but big enough for a couple of bikes with the front wheels off. . Utterly brilliant cars.
or a leggy if you want a bit more space…

You’ll never think about buying a german van ever again.

Bought off Ebay? Refuse to pay it, open case for undelivered item, get money back and buy from UK.

Why the hell they’ed send an item of that value via UPS though…

Lamb, but it’s got to be done well. It’s a tougher meat to cook well IMO.

Bullshit. Just forget about it until you get back from the Pub; the longer the better!

I didn’t list all the other stuff like scouts, roman digs, football, cricket, karting, archery and more that I can’t necessarily do anything with except take him to. Which I did until the shine went off it.

If he got a black belt in karate by 13 maybe, unless they just give them out for minimal effort, he’s burnt out with doing structured exercise and cba . Leave him to find something is my vote, I don’t have kids though (but keep an eye on what he’s doing on line)

This. Usually burnout is apparent to everyone except the parents.

Use a normal saw, but let it do the work. Lots of light cuts rather than hacking away really hard

+1 and make sure the saw is SHARP.

Use the right one for the job. They all look the same in the cardboard sheath but have more or less teeth per inch for specific jobs. More teeth for ply and crosscuts and less for ripping down the grain. Spear and Jackson Predators are good, colour coded for ease of use.
A panel (hand) saw will be just as quick , if not quicker than a circular saw if you’re manouevreing heavy, bulky pallets around.

Have you tried downloading one? or like the DVLA is their website 9-5 only?
The missus had an appointment for a “fast track” last year, up in that London. The passport took a week to arrive.
I used the fast and checked service from the PO and it took the same time…

Isn’t it a bit late in the season to be selling winter tyres?
Unless we have a cold snap potential purchasers will be limited.

If you have half an eye on it’s value when you re-sell then go for the crappiest house on the best road, not the best house somewhere crap. We sold last year a 1500sq ft 3 bedder in a road of 7,8+ bedders, with permission to nearly triple the floorage. The developer who bought it intends to make it even bigger, and it will still be one of the smaller houses in the street.

We just walked out and both said, yup, we’ll have that one!

    I know the feeling!

Well, Sheffield is, as far as I can see, the best city in England to live in if you like riding bikes/Climbing / walking/ running.

    Chichester isn’t.

Living not too far from Chichester I’d agree with that. Chi isn’t even the best town in Sussex for these. If you want Culture though…
Factor in the tourists and traffic jams in the summer and the vast difference in property prices. For the price of a 2 bed terrace in Chi you’ll get a 20 bed mansion up in the hills near Sheffield.

No there was a will written before which he had told the childten about the contents (I’m not sure if he actually showed it them). This will was changed a few weeks prior to his death by his wife and a solicitor which he signed.

So why didn’t they do something about it then? His doctor may have been able to testify he was off his box on drugs, or whatever.
Having left it this long, I’d say tough titty!

    Get the steering bushings replaced.

and check out the forums for handling kits. You don’t need to go low and stiff to make it handle better. The stock shocks will be cheap and, even when new, are probably barely adequate. There will be better options available that will improve the ride.

US price plus 4.7% import duty then 20% vat on total.
So $100 purchase price will then become $125.64.
    Base price plus 25.64%.

+ handling fee for collecting the duty. The Royal Mail is cheapest and may even forget to collect the duty if the package is small enough and sent via USPS 1st class, which is actually quite quick too – 3-4 days being usual.

    The buses are excellent,

Be sure to take a bus over the Sierra Madre. Buses are run by rival companies, who race to get to the most crowded bus stops first. Chuck in some 4000m mountains and an unerring trust in God…

Is it only rotten at the bottom of the beam or all way to the top? If the top 1/3 is sound I’d be inclined to cut out the rot and scarf some fresh timber in at the bottom. Support either side with plates or timber.

There’s nothing interesting about a FTSE tracker. If you want interesting, try Jupiter India or Legg Mason Japan

The Child ISA looks the way to go if I want security but a FTSE tracker would be interesting!

You can hold a FTSE tracker, or any other tracker, fund, trust or shares in a Junior S&S Isa. You can deposit £4080 per tax year. Hargreaves Lansdowne, Charles Stanley et al can provide them, but you (or more correctly, your child) cannot access it until they are 18.

There should be consequences – but ones the lad can learn from and move on in life from a wiser and better person for it.

An Accountant! Not an IFA. They give estate agents a good name!

Bear in mind that if he sells the house for £150k he may get much less than that after CGT. Talk to an accountant. They’ll give you the tax implications of your options, and they’ll charge less than you think. An IFA will want a hefty wack, and if on commission won’t suggest keeping the house as there’s nothing in it for him.

After buying a car and other toys for nearest and dearest…
Open S&S Isa and Dealing account with Hargreaves Lansdowne or similar. There are several trusts which pay divis of 6-7% with relative safety. Assuming he invests £75k, leaving some in Premium bonds or high interest accounts, just in case, he should be getting an extra £5k a year tax free, without eating into or increasing his capital.

I think unless the account is in your name they are free to blow it all on coke and hookers at 18.

If they don’t know the account exists, they won’t ask about it…
I think LLoyds junior saver pays about 3% until they’re 16. Then it’s a bit of a nether world where they’re too old for a junior saver but too young for the good current a/c deals…
But long term, a junior S&S Isa should give the best returns.

Read the FT weekend edition to find out what’s what. It’s pricey at 3 1/2 little ones, but well worth it. Just chuck the “How to Spend It” section straight in the bin!

3 1/2 big ones though she added this was all inclusive irrespective of the investment pot and managing an investment portfolio etc as opposed to others who have a start up fee and then there are add ons depending on how you pick and choose the service

Ouch! Though I’d prefer to pay a one off fee up front than an ongoing percentage of my portfolio.
I have a yearly sit down with my accountant who explains the tax implications of my investments and how I could be saving money. It cost me less than a hundred quid. What mistakes I make after that are up to me.

Finally got round to opening the ISA. Anyone want to recommend some funds I should look at?

Don’t rush to buy a load of funds all at once. Pick them up when you think they’re cheap or drip feed into them with a regular investment scheme.
Trustnet.com gives league tables of funds by geography and industry.
I’ve had recent good returns from:

    Black Rock World Mining
    GS India
    Legg Mason Japan
Baillie Gifford Japan Small Cos/ Shin Nippon
    Baring Emerging Europe
    Scottish Mortgage
    Pictet Robotics
    Man GLG Europe

I still believe in them and still hold them, though that is no guarantee of future gains, particularly at the moment!

Healthcare and Biotech might be worth looking at. I’m avoiding property at the moment though over the last ten years, up until 18 months ago, It’s been fantastic!
Stay diversified. Provided more holdings are going up than down, you’re laughing!
