https://transferwise.com/ will probably save them a few quid, not just on the banks’ charges but on the exchange rate too.

Woodcock are very difficult to shoot due to their fast flight, I’d be quite surprised if a decline in numbers was due to shooting. Much more likely to be due to habitat loss and other factors,

They’re easily disturbed/caught by dogs a bit quicker than my dopey terrier. THeir habitat round here is prime Surrey dog walking country.

Unless you think the garage lied about having fixed it then I think you are being unrealistic about what their responsibilities are.

It’s pretty clear where the unrealistic expectations reside.

Yes . You’re being an arse. Maybe your wife should look where she’s going? It could be a baby robin next time.

    A very nice, sensitive response.

    Well he is!
His post makes it sound like he blames the garage for the damage, and how dare they wait for parts to be delivered before fitting them! Of course they should pay for the hire car!
The reality may be that the garage acted in good faith and replaced all the components that were visibly damaged and that they could economically and quickly check. A thorough examination may have meant time consuming, expensive disassembly so they did what they could to stop that bleedin teacher giving them an earful every day…

Driving home the whistling was still there, my preferred garage found a very obvious hole in the intercooler intake.

Why not use them in the first place?

Outside my window there is a green lane leading through the holly woods full of Highland mooks to the top of the hill, from where I can see London, Canary wharf, the City and, on a very clear day, Wemberly, most of the Surrey Hills, the SEven sisters down Eastbourne way, Gatwick, Heathrow and the Berkshire downs. The biggest turd in this vista is Woking. Even Aldershot manages a passable imitation of a spanish White Town…

I guess I need to report it, but I reckon I’ll lose out ultimately. Just trying to work out how I can lose out as little as possible. Any tips?

Yes. Stop pissing about and report it, to plod and your insurers. If the other party are denying liability you’re unlikely to get a penny unless you do…

What does the stereotypical Saab driver buy now? I feel they disappeared just before I came into the perfect Saab owner age window for a Guardian reading liberal artsy design type. I even bought the black turtleneck all ready.

    Tesla?

Cheers again. Yes, insurance company will no doubt come out on top one way or another. Might try not to use it.

jamie – baby due next month

Use the insurer. If you think finding a new car is going to be a PITA with a baby on the way, it’s nothing to the PITA of getting the other party to cough up!

Sound paintwork would just get dulled with a scotchbrite not taken back to bare metal.
Is there any reason my floor is different?

Yes! Car paint is solid; you can’t see through it so it’s easy to hide the shit underneath.

Floor lacquer is transparent. A half arsed job will be very apparent.
Hire a sander and take it back to bare timber. Then oil it. Any scratches or damage can then be treated by a quick wipe over with an oily rag, adding patina, adding character.

It’s not so much about how ebay works, it’s about how ebayers work. Which is about 25% about not understanding, and about 75% psychosis.

, my other half received a letter today notifying her she’s being taken to court regarding an car crash she was involved in a couple of years ago.

Who sent the letter? THe other party or their insurers? Whoever it was, pass it over to your insurers to deal with.
Unless of course, you settled the claim without telling your insurers…

The original post makes no mention of fast. Fun, yes. Fast, no.
Hold on, did the original OP list mention

Shortlist so far is BMW m4 (eldest sons choice) or a newer 911 cabrio (my choice). Audi rs5 doesn’t seem to appeal for some reason.
Anything else I should be looking at?
In what world is that not a fast cars list?
It is clearly a fast cars list but he asked for cars that are fun. This is probably why he’s struggling as fast does not necessarily equate to fun. You appear to have the same misconception.
It is a lot more fun to drive a slow car quickly than a fast car slowly.

See, you really have no idea what you want, you said fast, but then said you wanted a 993, they were fast in there time but pedestrian now, a new golf would kill it.

Or the Mehari. Whip out the 602 and replace with a 1220 and you’ll have a riotous little pup of a car.

Ah, so we could get gazzump’d?

You could, but presumably the EA is checking you have the funds in place or can get a mortgage. Once the Bank/seller knows you’re proceedable they’re unlikely to upset the apple cart for an extra k or two.

I’d recommend talking to your solicitor who oversaw the sale

I’d talk to the solicitor who oversaw the purchase. They weren’t one and the same were they, OP?

It would have been easy enough to find out who owns the road and green fields beyond.

Pet insurance is insanely profitable for insurers.

actually, it’s not. Up until recently for most firms it’s been a loss leader while the market develops.
Now people believe they can own an expensive, but often poorly, bred pedigree animal and someone else will, for a fixed fee, take over the running costs you can expect your monthly premiums to take a serious hike.
There is now an expectation that someone else will pay. Why should pets be any different?

Always a relief when the insurance company pays out, I can’t believe some people don’t insure their pets?
If you can’t afford the monthly payment can you really afford to look after an animal properly?

If you can’t afford to pay the Vets’ bills , can you really afford to own an animal?
I’ve had several dogs and cats in the last 40 years; none were insured but none lacked for love or care.
Pet insurance allows people to buy poncy pedigrees they couldn’t otherwise afford to care for and allows puppy farmers to pump out 2nd rate, shonky pups. (but someone else is paying so never mind they might have a lifetime of pain or discomfort).
no criticism of the OP, his was a moggy.

(i’m with the captain , btw)
