For example I have recently just had a set of rear brakes done for £150.00 using Brembo discs and pads – BMW wanted £379.99 using inferior OEM parts – a £220.00 saving which could of paid for the dealers toilet perfume!!

I used to use Brembo discs and pads from Eurocarparts on my Subarus. One day I compared the OE pads with the Brembos. To my horror the Brembos had only about 2/3 the area of pad material the Subaru pads had.
Which probably explains why the Brembo discs kept warping.

I can’t understand the mentality of someone buying an expensive, daft, flash car and then moaning about spending a few quid to have it looked after properly…

A few years back I had heart problems and was in and out of hospital over a period of 2-3 years. I only worked about 6 months in this period and being self employed earned virtually nothing. Credit cards became a way of life, using them for day to day purchases and shuffling balances around to the latest 0% deal.
I was on the slab having my last angiogram when the cardiologist told me I’d need a Bypass and would be off work for a further 6-9 months.
The credit card debt was manageable at the time, but the prospect of earning nothing for a few months meant that it would soon become a problem.
I did as the Credit Card companies advise. I phoned up MINT to discuss my account and to request if they could freeze the interest until I was back at work. They couldn’t, but they could waive the £12 monthly late payment fee, which was something…
A week later I received a letter from them advising that as my circumstances had now changed the interest rate was increasing from 6%pa to 39%pa.
A manageable (with a bit of luck) debt very quickly snowballed into a major problem and we ended up having to sell our house, which turned into a blessing in disguise…

Pre-oiled would be convenient, but I’m concerned that since I won’t be able to touch up or re-finish with the same oil, I’m going to run into issues. Ive asked the supplier what oil they use but they simply say “maintenance is not required”. I’m not buying that.

No. No maintenance is required! Any scratches will be less visible than
with a laquered finish, and they all add to the patina. If you’re a bit OCDC just wipe any marks with an oily rag.

People in London(the South) earning enough to buy/own mega bucks properties who then sell up and move North sacrificing “culture” for the “country life” are consequently causing issues with property prices up here in the North where “locals” on low wages(low cost of housing)cannot compete when looking to upgrade in the housing market. Nothing new there really.

    Except in the North East…

And of course, house price inflation in the South East has nothing to do with folk moving from the regions for work, does it…

Depending on how much equity you had in your house, only £85,000 of it is protected in a single account (£160,000 if joint account).

Although larger amounts are covered temporarily if they are the proceeds of a house sale. I’m not sure for how long but think it is 6months or a year. The safest place though will be NS&I, in premium bonds or other accounts.

Perfect time of year to cut the grass,

And leave the clippings inside for a day or two. Freshly mown grass is a perfect antidote to fag niffs. And it will smell of fags, even if it’s just your clothes.
Is the kitchen at the front? A good idea but many buyers won’t think so. They’ll think it’s odd. Explain the benefits.
As said, remove the OIEO from the price.
Ask your agent why they think it’s not selling. How long has it been on the market?

All the above tells me is that if insurance details are shared between all parties involved in the accident there is no need to involve the police.

Do it anyway. Though if they attended the scene there may already be an incident number raised.

aracer .. you are using the word NEED in a very millennial-snowflake way….

Lets get this straight … you don’t need a car to carry bikes because you neither need a bike nor a car … these are simply lifestyle choices you have made.

I don’t need a car… I can change job or sign on if i can’t find one… this is not about what is NEEDED it is about people making lifestyle choices.
Let’s face it; your car is boring. An extra 500 horses ain’t going to change that. Is it grey?

During any typical day, where and how would anyone use 280hp?

That’s not the point though. If you have more power you can drive more slowly. Anyone in a small, feeble, boring car tries to overtake you, you can show them who’s boss!

I was toying with the idea of getting an MX5 and a supercharger… but that was getting a bit silly for insurance

A friend has just that. It’s bonkers mad!
Insurance is £250 ish for a 50yr old living in London.

I think the Panda will be a little too small, but thank you anyway.

There’s very little in it vs the Jimney. It may even be a little bigger. Comfort wise there is no comparison. I used to take my old Panda green laning. It surprised a few landy drivers…

I’ve always found Goodyear EfficientGrip to be pretty good and quite well priced.
    Seconded.

Thirded, though if you live in the country they really are crap on mucky roads, but that probably applies to the majority of tyres.

Mudshark-Just because the the FTSE had a bad patch you sold three funds. This makes no sense to me at all.The FTSE is always rising and falling. If your picks were good to start with why sell? How are you going to deal with the extreme volatility of emerging market investments?Sell every time there’s a few difficult periods?Your going to be paying alot in charges.

It’s worth pointing out, if the OP is still reading, that funds, generally, don’t incurr dealing costs; no stamp duty, no spread (unless you’re into weird shit), No platform dealing fees (with HL and CS, maybe others)and no fund entry and exit fees if bought through online platforms. iWeb will charge you a fiver to buy or sell but won’t levy a holding charge. Active funds have never been cheaper, and apparently they’re now taking business back from the passives…

Reuben, you’ve got alot of duplication in those plays,I think you should diversify a bit.I think you should also have a look at the P/E ratios of those big tech stocks.Eye wateringly high with little or no yield.

I know, but try finding a Global Tech fund that doesn’t hold them. The point I was making is that the polar fund has a lot less weihghting towards the big boys and more emphasis on interesting smaller cap companies, while trackers, by necessity, are overweight in the FANGS. Not a good place to be.
They’re not my only holdings. Just 2 funds of about 20…
