Have the kids known the dog from their births or is it a new relationship?

    Oh, and pics please!
    (the dog, not the kids)

    What sort of dog?

My Samsung tablet with flip off keyboard is ace. The best thing though is the screen. My Apple Fangirl daughter is very jealous…

Not just that, but there were always people willing to pay the price given. Accept the price given and I was always more willing to cover any extras that may occur. Moan about the price at the start and these would be charged for, often costing them more than the original estimate.

To be honest, with a waiting list of 6-9 months I just didn’t need the aggravation of customers “negotiating” at every opportunity. There are plenty who will just let you get on with things.

Unlikely I would have thought, given how busy they are.
If a new clint asked me for a discount then alarm bells would ring. I would be concerned at their ability/willingness to pay.

“Lowa are also very nice (basically try loads to find the one that works for you)”

Quality is a bit iffy. I’m on my third pair of Renegades in two years. Cotswold replaced the first after they split with no quibbles, offered me my money back on the second but I opted for a new pair instead. Six months later the third pair are going the same way. They’re shit!

If you KNOW you can offer her a permanent home then do so. Otherwise offer her back to the rescue centre. Most will take dogs back and try to find them a stable home.

“Every year those pension forecasts depress me, c 2.5k per 100k index linked.”

Does anyone buy an annuity anymore though?
I didn’t fancy handing my hard earned over to a Ponce in a shiny suit so stuck it in S&S Isas instead. AS a result I was able to retire 3 years ago instead of having to work until my 55th Birthday next year.
A “plan” had nothing to do with it. All down to luck!

the house (and life insurance) is setup to go straight to the survivor,

If you do have life assurance make sure it is held in trust. It will fall outside your estate and thus not be liable for death duty. More importantly, it will be payed within a week or two as you won’t have to wait for Probate to be granted, which even on a simple estate could be months.

it may be reasonable to split her charges – charge for the goods at cost (and exempt from VAT) and then the rest for the service element (VATable) and this doesn’t look like (because it isn’t) artificial for tax purposes, and then the amount of potentially VATable supply she makes

    Why “at cost”?
Would adding a non pisstake markup, or even charging RRP, if there is one, remove the zero VAT status?

scotroutes and andyl at the top of page 1 have summed it up.
As for not being registered with Companies House – rather you than me in managing the fallout.
Talk to your accountant about VAT registration, splitting business and setting up new company – your missus does have a business accountant?
Companies House take a dim view of dodging the rules and can impose substantial penalties – as can HMRC.
Are you saying your missus has been trading without a company registration? Illegal.
On what basis does she pay tax?

Are you pissed? She is a sole trader. What the **** do Companies House have to do with it?

If there was a proven medical need, then couldn’t the NHS prescribe the treatment and thus the ‘patient’ could get it free anyway?

    Free prescriptions? There’s a thought…

So essentially separating her sole trader business into ‘sales’ and ‘treatment’..Hmm…

    Why not…?
Just like most other small businesses, builders, garages etc…

Would the Botox, or whatever, still not be zero VAT rated when she sells it on to the client, leaving only her services VATable?

    Talk to her accountant though!

I hold funds with Charles Stanley. They charge .25% holding fee and buying and selling funds are free. They have a massive range of funds and have usually negotiated away any entry charges.

AJ Bell are similar but charge £1.50 transaction charge. They have an even bigger range of funds and ETFs, and will trade foreign shares unlike Charles Stanley.

iWeb are great for shares- £5 transaction fee and no holding fee- but pretty crap at funds. They have a relatively limited range.

Avoid Barclays like the plague. A friend initiated a transfer in November and they have just promised to complete it within 4 weeks…

My little 10 yr. old Border x Jack Russell terrier, Hooch, has the quaking terrors.

I think he’s really distressed. Or just an ageing terrier.

    10 years isn’t old. He’s entering middle age. He’s having a crisis!

A young pup is an excellent idea, always worked for me!

I lost my Jack Russell, Florence, to cancer in the summer and Louis the Fell Terrier was missing her dreadfully but he now has a young Fox Terrier, Basil, to keep in order and he’s loving it! There was a bit of friction to start with but they’ve sorted that out despite the odd grumble.

Helly “Warm” merino base layers and normal Helly LJs under my Salopettes.

Would prefer to avoid down as it’ll be less use the rest of the year in the UK when it’s soggy all the time.

Merino base layers are the very definition of soggy. A Brynje string vest below them however…

but it’s just making the effort to do them.

    eh?
Cut the veg ( spuds, sweeet spuds, squash, snips and carrots etc) into 2″ chunks along with a few shallots and a couple of garlic bulbs, chuck it in a roasting tin, with some meat if you must, splash with rape seed oil, salt and pepper and chuck in the oven for an hour and a half at 150C.
That will take you 5 minutes. You won’t even need to wash the pan. just scrape the yummy burnt bits off and wipe with a kleenex ready for next time.

A smoothie is quick and easy for breakfast: A small banana, some blueberries (or whatever takes your fancy), some oats and as much spinach, kale or salad as you can stuff in the blender (trust me on this one) with milk or water with greek yoghurt.
It should keep you going until lunch or beyond . no need to spend a fortune on a blender; I have used a £20 Kenwood job every day for the last three years and it’s still going strong.

Roasting veg transforms the taste; Roasted carrots, snips, squash, sprouts, shallots, garlic, peppers and Jerusalem Artichokes really are foods of the gods!
Eat that lot and you will fart like a Rhino, but your guts will get healthier.

*cough* not sure if you experts had seen id posted a question before the rude man hijacked my thread *cough*

HL don’t charge for buying or selling funds, so take your time deciding which ones you want. This will help you decide:

    https://www2.trustnet.com/Investments/SectorPerf.aspx?univ=O&SP_sortedColumn=PerformanceCurPerf.P1m&SP_sortedDirection=DESC

Add Japan to the list, so 16-18% in each sector, split between 2 or 3 funds. (I love Baillie Gifford funds personally, though other inferior products are available )

Open a new SIPP for your missus. She can add to it as and when.

Given the probable size of the estate, and the complexity of inheritance laws, you really need an accountant’s advice.

Probably a lawyer as your first port of call…

I’m a meat eater and the Linda macartney mozzarella burgers are bloody ace

Check out the ingredients in Linda’s shit. She’d be turning in her grave if she could see the crap that’s put in them.
If you need meat alternatives try Cauldron and Wicken Fen, and even Tesco.

the rear running gear takes up a lot of the space so it’s much shallower.

My Jack Russell loved the Forester. It’s the only car I’ve had where she could see out of the rear windows. If I could find one in good nick, red, white or blue, I’d get it in a heartbeat!

If you transfer your holding to HL and it’s not large, check how much the platform fees will be.

Outside of an ISA or SIPP, HL won’t charge for holding shares. They charge 1% for divi re-investment up to a max of £10.
