Get a chesp knife from dyas to practice on. Sharpening is an art in itself and perfecting it can take a while. If the knife is already scary sharp a strop lightly loaded with green paste may be all you ever need, but my arsenal includes Titman diamond stones ,325/1000 grit, and 8000 grit, and japanese water stones, 3000/8000 grit, with a strop made from saddle leather to finish. This is for chisels and gouges but the same principles apply, although i have never needed to use the diamond plates on my japanese chisels, and is probably best avoided as mentioned above.
Oil stones belong in the stone age and shaving hairs off your arms is just the starting point….

“It has always been apparent to anyone vaguely connected with vaccines that boosters would likely be required at some point, and I think your “only recently” is just is disingenuous ”
Then why is this a surprise to so many?
It’s one thing for those “in the know” to know, but why not be more vocal in explaining it to everyone? Similarly, why promote the vaccines as the silver bullet that will rid us of covid and help protect each other? It has been known since last year that the vaccines’ ability to prevent transmission is sketchy at best, yet this is how it has been sold to us, allowing many people to believe they no longer need to wear masks in confined spaces. This perhaps explains why covid cases are rocketing, yet related deaths are near record low levels. The vaccine does not prevent hosting or re-infection. It simply makes any symptoms less serious. Why then is it necessary to force members of the medical professions to get vaccinated when wearing a mask is more effective?
It smacks of clutching at straws…

And ethically, as TJ said, is extremely dubious!

Probably the most extensively tested vaccine brought in to use. The whole world practically stopped what it was doing and focused all its time, effort and brain power on getting it developed and tested. Same volume of work and testing, just concentrated in time as everything else got put to one side.

The short term effects have been rxamined in great detail but the medium and long term is still very much a mystery.
It is only recently becoming apparent that booster jabs are necessary. The full and comprehensive testing didn’t reveal that little nugget of wisdom. What else is there to discover?
Granted, Covid also holds long term mysteries, but which holds the most risk is up for me to decide, not you!

Get one with urethane wheels (Kryptonic Red would be good) . A visit to Bruge a couple of years back was marred by the sound wheely bags on the cobbles…

    Er, no…

The Astra jab was deemed a bit dodgy by some countries, non?

2so by not having a vaccination which is proven to help stop the spread of a virus would you be breaking that oath?”
    Excedpt it isn’t.
It is proven to help reduce the spread of Covid, by about 25%. Far less than the reduction in spread by wearing a mask. The main benefit from being vaccinated is to protect yourself – even though we have been told it protects others. Protecting yourself seems to be an unacceptable concept these days…
I’m happy to wear a mask but being told what to stick in one’s body? A very slippery slope!

I have two Alfas, a 1976 GT Junior and a 2003 147 GTA. In 5 years only the Junior has broken down, once, when the japanese battery pegged out on a clifftop near Amalfi…
Having said that, Junior is going in for a full strip down and body attention this winter. It should then be ready for another 45 years.
I wouldn’t hesitate to get an Alfa. But then I’m an old fart hanging onto my youth, to whom the idea of driving anything from VAG fills me with dread….

    Where are the “air bricks”?
You need two vents, one at each end, at least, up high, to benefit air flow through the building.

    +1 !
I live 800ft up in the surrey alps. There’s a school at the top of the road, and all the little cherubs get delivered in posh 4wds, which are of course perfect for this, especially in the snow. They’re OK getting up but coming down is a different matter entirely!

“I was recently considering making a child’s sized one.”

The originals are pretty tiny too. My old man was going to get one but at 6’3 he was a little big for it. I’m only 6’1 but tried one at an auction house and it was bleedin’ uncomfy!
I didn’t know they made them in different sizes…

EDIT! Having replied without reading the posts, in true STW tradition, it seems I’m not alone in finding them somewhat minute…

    Have you seen a rheumatologist?
I was recommended one 18months ago who put me on some heavy duty shit called Sulfasalazine. Works a treat! Before that I could hardly walk. Friends had recommended all sorts of stuff; Turmeric, Pineapple extract, Collagen, CBD, but it was guzzling steroids that did the trick short term. My GP was effin useless. Go and see a rheumatologist, a good one!
