Have a look at Haslemere, just south of Godalming. It has 900 ft hills either side with some very steep ups and downs. Head north, West or East and you have mile upon mile of sandy common land, rideable in all weathers. Head south and you’re in the south downs national park in 5 mins. The south downs head north to meet the north just here and it is right hilly by anyone’s standards most of the way down to the coast, with traffic dropping off noticeably south of haslemere. I moved there 8 years ago having spent most of my life near guildford, and the riding is So much better! I don’t think anywhere in Berkshire, or anywhere else in the SE, can even think about comparing…

Godalming, without a shadow of a doubt! You’re right in the middle of the north downs with varied off road riding, mostly all weather, in every direction…
An hour to London, the Ferry to France, or Heathrow or Gatwick airports. There are a few good reasons the area is expensive…

You don’t need to “sightsee” in Rome. It’s all just there around you…
but you’re unlikely to meet any Romans…

Go to Naples! The most fantastic, chaotic city in Europe! With some of the best food in the world.
It’s more far eastern than European and all the better for it, and only 200 miles south of Rome. Rome itself is a bit meh…
Don’t believe the shit about being unsafe. Petty crime is rife but you’ll be safe. It’s just behind Manchester in the list I saw of “unsafe” cities.

Go there! You will not regret it! I spent 2 months driving around Italy a couple of years ago and Naples was by far the best city I visited. Siena was good too, but tiny, and Venice was fantastic. Trieste out east is on my to do list, but Naples I could visit again and again…

You have probably fitted them out of whack! With H4 this is easy to do, and Peugeot Citroen love to use them. I fitted some Osram +150 last year to my Citroen and couldn’t believe how dim they were. And other drivers were flashing me cos I was dazzling them…
I went out and checked after dark , squatting down to check where they became bright, and it was when I was standing up!
A couple of hours of fun later and they were right again, Burning hedges with their fiery glow, but not blinding oncoming drivers.
Check you’ve fitted them correctly, and double check. They’re probably in cock eyed.
Peogeot Citroen are probably the most powerful lights around. It comes from being restricted to yellow 45W bulbs for nearly all of the 20th century.

“With regard to fitting. All tabs in the correct places, not any wriggle room.”

That’s what I thought too! I was wrong! You could have bought shit bulbs though; what brand are they? Osram or Phillips for the win!

Trust works both ways. The roofer doesn’t know you either! If you’re going to piss around paying for a relatively small job he may decide to F off to a less arsey client.
I never used to ask for a deposit but a couple of dodgy payers in short succession prompted me to start to ask for 25% up front. Only the clients I had had doubts about demurred.

A days research in Brighton’s bike shops has revesled the topeak trailer as a strong contender. One wheel, a cargo drybag and a clever axle, included ,from which it is possible to remove the trailer without removing the wheel. Who’d have think it?
Does the Burley coho disconnect the same way? It appears to have a very slightly bigger, squarer load area….

“True, going tubeless would probably reduce the number of times it happens, but don’t you still have to carry a spare inner tube +tyre boot for the times when the goo doesn’t do it’s sealing thing?”

No. a puncture worm or whatever they’re called will fix a 1/4″ slit in under a minute. You’re unlikely to find anything that will slash your tyre any bigger on the road, unless you scoot along in the gutter, which ain’t the best idea anyway…

    “Anyone tried the Lake MX146?”
Yes, i have both Lake 146 and 303s.
The 146 are waterproof but not particularly warm. The 303s are VERY warm, and W I D E ! Before I bought them I tried just about everything on the market and none were as wide and/or warm.
They are well worth the investment!

Avoid the 2010 diesel unless it’s had a new engine.
Someone forgot to drill oilways in the crank, resulting in Big End failure.
