Another one here who took a grinder to a Shimano adapter, and is still alive to tell the tale…
submarinedFree MemberUplift days are WELL easy. I always come away from one thinking ‘i should have booked a whole week here, it’s just riding down hills.’
*Insert ‘tell me you’ve never done x without telling me you’ve never done x’ trope*
2submarinedFree MemberI’d imagine young Dobbin in a field up the road is easily as expensive as a bike
A young potential trail advocate/riding buddy getting outside and riding rather than stuck to a screen? How could that not be a good thing?
We need all the friends we can get, let’s not pull that gatekeeping nonsense, eh?
submarinedFree MemberJust a smear of brake fluid has always worked for me.
If you’ve got some red grease that may be a bit better, but meh.submarinedFree MemberI’d have thought most MTB trews are going to be tapered leg to get the leg away from the chain. All the ones I’ve ever had have been. You may have more luck looking at walking type trousers?
submarinedFree MemberDifferent creepy sex pest. They both lOVE being asked for Summer of 69 at gigs though.
submarinedFree MemberThe Trailcross categorically do not have the wide toe box the OP is after unfortunately.
I gave up and am trying to learn to ride in SPDs to open options. Either that or I wear half size too big Freerider Pros with knee length Sealskinz, as the shoes drain quite well.
submarinedFree MemberGood friend of mine used Betterhelp. It was pretty transformative.
My brother in law is quite a senior counselling psychologist, and said a lot of the negative press about them was as a result of quite an aggressive recruitment strategy and the subsequent employment conditions. It wasn’t a reflection on the quality of the therapy. (Whether or not this sort of therapy is best for a person is a different subject)
41submarinedFree MemberTbh it’s pretty arrogant to expect a shop to accommodate your bike imho.
They take up a lot of room and are an unstable liability. So I’d, err, not do it again, and in the future pop my head in and ask ‘is it ok if I bring my bike in?’ and if they say no, then leave it outside, or if you want, find another shop that will.
submarinedFree MemberAs I said earlier, you need to find out what ‘partially charged’ means in the app before you go any further imo.
Don’t rely on that, stick a meter across the terminals to see what it’s reading. Also, has it been drained to completely flat (eg barely even cranks) at any point?
submarinedFree MemberIf you have a dodgy back and want lots of space, then surely the answer is a V70? Seats of The Gods.
submarinedFree MemberYup, was about to say if it’s AGM then don’t just bung a cheap charger on it.
CTEK are tried and tested. I leave my car (with an AGM battery) plugged in all the time. Problem is once they drain fully, more often than not they’re terminally knackered. However, losing charge on that time does possibly imply electrical fault, but I’ve no idea where to start on a car that new! It is worth considering what the parameters for it being ‘partially charged’ are though. It may just mean ‘not completely full’.
2submarinedFree MemberIs this like like why my dad couldn’t download a CSV of all the temperatures that his smart heating had been set to over the past year?
Eg because he was a fringe case that it’s not worth paying the developers to accomodate when it doesn’t actually generate income. Probably the opposite, in fact.2submarinedFree MemberResolved! Thanks everyone!
Good spot @singletrackmind – it was just temporary, it’s got a cap in the end to stop unpleasant gases whilst working on the rest of the cupbo… Errr, room.
submarinedFree MemberThanks @nickjb confirms what I thought :) I tried one of the adjustable angle roofers but it was too long.
@argee because everyone I’ve spoken to about them confirms my thoughts that having a load of ridges for turds to cling on to is a generally bad idea, plus the need to support it.
@singletrackmind I couldn’t find one with enough offset, and there isn’t enough ‘give’ in the straight one I tried to make up the extra offset. Thanks y’all.
submarinedFree MemberI’d start by cleaning out all the grease – I suspect it’s gumming them up a bit. I use 75/90 gear oil in mine, no issues with longeivity, plus easier to clean them out every once in a while,
if you want more noise, it will then seem louder, but if you want even more noise you can use Pro4 freehubs in them.
submarinedFree MemberI use an old spoke and put several wraps of electrical tape around the thread 5mm or so down. Put the nipples on that, dab of grease, and it usually stays. But I share your pain, I had one that just wouldn’t come out. Took about half an hour as the sodding grease meant it kept getting stuck!
Or you can buy a long female Torqx socket for a 1/4″ drive screwdriver, I think it’s T25?
submarinedFree MemberYup, Spotify. My 11 year old is of a similar musical leaning and has his own Spotify account. When using mine for the car the other day he was blown away by how many songs Blink 182 and Alkaline Trio had actually made.
submarinedFree MemberI love a fast wagon, and they are some of the best, but even if I had the disposable to buy (and maintain) one, I wouldn’t even consider it unless I had somewhere discreet off road and a reasonable distance from my house (so as it couldn’t be linked to it) to store it. They are prime home invasion for key theft fodder.
I know that shouldn’t shape the purchase of a car, but one got a family, and no amount of internet bravado would affect the (very high) risk.submarinedFree MemberSame way I’ve always done it – hand under stem on top cover, nip up until there’s no more play, done. My bearings seem to die from water ingress, not wear though!
1submarinedFree MemberHas anyone actually used those Spada trousers? Because all I can find in terms of ‘reviews’ are simply press releases or a regurgitation of the website… Including the one on here.
Gotta say, I’m sceptical.
submarinedFree MemberTbh I couldn’t give a crap anymore if it’s because they need taking apart and cleaning. Out of all the other calipers in the house (Clarks, Hope, Magura, SRAM, even Avid FFS) NONE of them ever do this. If I can’t get my bike out after 6 months storage and use the brakes without disassembly and rebuild with new parts, that’s nothing other than crap design/parts. Name 1 other component on an MTB that requires that amount of maintenance that _doesn’t_ have a crap reputation.
Like I say, I’m a huge fan of Shimano stuff, but crap is crap
1submarinedFree MemberI’m at 12 failed ones through my family. Every single one failed after storage.
Had enough of them, I’m a big fan of Shimano drivetrains, but I’m not going near their calipers ever again.submarinedFree MemberThe RipMo doors look a bit better ITL but it’s still **** ugly. I love mine though. Climbs well, poppy and playful on the way back down, heaps of fun. Super versatile, but not light. Had mine 4 years and I’m not planning on changing anytime soon
1submarinedFree MemberWhat did the pistons look like when they came out? I’d wager they need new seals and possibly a piston or two.
I think Hope do a fixed price ‘service’ where you send it to them, which could work out a decent option if they’re likely to need multiple pistons.
submarinedFree MemberMy in laws (never swear, tut disapprovingly when someone does) we’re round for Christmas, as was my wife’s grandad (mobility issues, dementia, but periods of real lucidity).
Mother in law was helping him to the toilet, walked past a box that was on the counter waiting to go to the recycling.
‘What is that?’
‘They’re batteries, dad. You put them in electrical things to make them work’
‘I know they’re f*****g batteries, why’s there a bloody box of them in the kitchen?’7submarinedFree MemberCan’t you just look at the hundreds of other threads like this or bugger off to petrol heads to look for cars.
Or better still actually think for your self.
Who shat in your cornflakes? That was a lot of effort for a post that would have been better spent not being a dick to the op.
submarinedFree MemberThat’s a hard nope from me I’m afraid. I suspect you know the answer here :(
I’ve got a very new looking GravelKing in the garage that’s suffered a similarly galling fate.1submarinedFree MemberIt’s what, M7, M8 or M10? It should take a hell of a force to shear one,
Unless, of course, it were hollow.
All this ‘I’ve never sheared a bolt’ stuff – ever worked on a 90s Japanese car? Once things start corroding (like a steel thing to an aluminium thing -they never get corroded together on bikes, do they? ;) ) you can have a hell of a time getting them apart.
submarinedFree MemberEvery box ticked
There are plenty of then but the m35 is just a bit of a dull estate with a thirsty engine. The RB is half the draw, so it’s M34 or GTFO for me.
submarinedFree MemberThe best Swift GTI you can find.
Or this https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202406180873263
Or some variety of mini with more doors.
Or a hot Legacy
Volvo T5R
There are a lot of options!1submarinedFree MemberHow old is the car? Tbh corroded bleed nipples happen on older cars, and they’re a total PITA. If it’s only a few years old i’d be pointing more at the garage. If it’s say 10+ and hasn’t ever had the fluid changed, if find it harder to blame them.
1500 for a new one is mental unless it’s an RS with 6 pots or something. Have a look on http://www.brakeparts.co.uk and see how much you can get one from in there. I’d also look at taking to an indy as it’ll be sooooooo much cheaper anyways. If you’re ok with Audi doing it then I’d definitely be pushing for a dealer goodwill contribution first, then possibly escalating to their UK call centre if you can’t get it sorted amicably.
1submarinedFree MemberIf you try looking for ‘water bottles’ you’ll find a greater selection of non pretentious bottles that don’t actually leak. Podiums have been great for me.
8submarinedFree MemberOh, we are writing the mag again, are we? ?
What a depressingly negative response to something asking for tales of kindness. Hope about focusing the positives?
1submarinedFree MemberA friend’s son once turned to his mum and earnestly asked her ‘mummy, do policemen say f*** as well?’
I volunteer at the local primary to read with the kids, one of them was having a bit of trouble with her phonics.
‘b-a-t-h. Bat-h?’
‘oooh, nearly. So you know those first two sounds, but remember, if we put the t and h together, we get the th sound. So it’s b-a-th, bath’.
*Confused face* ‘but it’s bath, not Barth?’
‘ah yes, that’s because I come from another part of the country, and we pronounce it a bit differently.’
*Long stare*
…
‘My mummy says that’s posh.’submarinedFree MemberBit niche, but I’d pay silly money* to see Dance Hall Crashers, as I never got the chance before they split.
I’d also pay a good amount to see Daughter play on a venue that had atmosphere to suit.
Tbh I have no desire to see a band in a huge venue, Biggest gig I’ve ever been to was the Foos at MK bowl. Not a huge fan but was pretty excited about seeing Jimmy Eat World in support, but they did nothing for me, (not due to some sort of inverse snobbery, just horses for courses) Take me back to the pissy walled Tunbridge Wells Forum(Symposium, 1998 ISH, Chefskiss.gif), Upstairs @The Garage(Idlewild, Captain era, incredible), or Brighton Concorde and I’m a happy man.
*To me £100 is silly money…
submarinedFree MemberFor me, ‘silly money’ is £100.
Bit niche, but the only band that immediately comes to mind is Dance Hall Crashers. Gutted I never got the chance in the 90s.submarinedFree MemberIn the last 5 years, two for me, and two for others in the group.
The one up one was great…once. then the tiny Allen bolt rounded.
