Trout.. You don’t happen to be a good mate of Glenns from down town Norton/Malton do you ?(used to ride with him & alien back in the day)Bumped into his lad Mat saturday and the penny dropped when he metioned Trout the light man in connection with his dad.
And a chocolate lab about to dump on the pavement, white suspect package next to bins, guy about to jay walk and the worst of all denim shorts !!!!! they are gona chaff when they get moist.
OP was a concern on lack of helmets at Dalby. The bigest problem area is Dixons Hollow (as noted by Mr Crud) i.e skills park. The biggest injured group thus far has been middle aged men riding skills compensatory cycles (full sus dandy horses) whilst showing their buddies,sons/daughters and on lookers how they rode back in the day…..Normal result ….Medic !!!!!!
We are no pixie troop !!!! We are all 5ft 4″ and a bit tall and work nights for Mr Wonka “umpa dumpa dumpty dar”. We did once get a visit from a ginger bloke and 300 other freaks on ermmmm well I think they said one geared bikes ? But nobody would ride a bike with just one gear, would they ?
Tollah… you are always a source of the most excellent humour. How are the KON all well I hope ? You pre-registerd for SSEC2011 as Bungi is getting moist just thinking about dancing with you 8O
TJ …I fully understand your concerns freedom of choice and stuff I assume. I for one would like to apologise for others on here as you have some good stuff to share. God we will get some stick now for being forum buddies must be the Yorkshire and Scotsmen being equally stubborn issue.
TJ has the right to his opinions, this is a forum for debate is it not. I may not agree with everybody all of the time but this can be a good place and can we just remember we all have a common interest and stop kicking off ….. it must be a monday morning thing :(
TJ… I know this is your big thing but I have witnessed the aftermath of 3 nasty head injurys, mainly in Dalby. I spend alot of time out on the trials and I always try and help if I see an accident(being ex army, first aid, scout leader etc etc).I am just concerned for people safety and a believe helmet wearing in most instances to be safer …..You are entitled to your opinion but you may just sometimes be wrong.
99% of folk I see at Dalby (and out cross country) wear helmets the other 1% are “a nasty head injury waiting to happen”. All trail centres should have a policy of no helmet no riding. I don’t give a flying @uck about the arguements on here as I have seen to many damaged, indented and broken helmets to know that they work.
I ride bikes because it makes you feel like a kid again and I have made several loyal and true friendships through cycling. As they say in these parts “growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional. Keep riding and never ever stop doing it. Yahooooooo !!!!
I have a golf course opposite my stable block and I’m sure they @wat the balls towards the servants quarters just to give the butler something to gather up on his day off 8O
Q…Should I single speed Ans.. Only if you want to become a god and dust the geared freak’os
I like everyone on here !!!!! Even Sheldon & the K.O.N so lets all feel the lourve and play nice. Group single speed demo ride anyone ?
Because I ride with numpties I tend to take spare kit for their geared freak bikes even though I ride SS. Is this acceptable or should I just carry what I need and leave broken down folk to the wolves & lynx ?
TJ…how did you get on ? Are you about to join the “GODS” that are rigid single speeders. SSEC2011 is open for pre registration if you want to come party with my crew in Belgium. I know we are from Yorkshire but we are just like scotsman only a bit tighter 8)
The guys I ride with tell me the same as you guys about aspects of golf and mtbing being similar. I agree you get cocks in all walks of life but my local golf club is full of masons, dick 1 reg plates and old wrinkling prunes with bad attitude.I visit on social occasions at the moment and all that club captain, ladies captain and toasting folk is a bit off putting.
TJ I’m 48 been a single speeder for several years, rigid also and you need to at least give it a try. What have you got to loose. Do it and don’t forget a massive back pack with loads of kit in it
Ok maybe I was harsh but do you guys honestly play golf and ride mtb ? Is golf that interesting in comparision to flying around on your bike ? I have been to several golf functions with my bro inlaw and the people there are so far up thier own arse holes its un real.
Golf !!! Golf eh ….. Why would you get up early to watch @cks twating little white balls around a grassy park ? Jesus this place really is going down the pan.
Always buy kit off them and have done for 10 years plus. Fast 24 hour delivery on stock showing items, good prices and free delivery what more could you ask for ….BRILLIANT.
The single speed slant on it.
Simple little light weight bike, well maintained with very little to go wrong. Just enough kit to get you out of the shit and anyway we don’t exactly ride the wilderness in this country now do we gentlemen. But if folks want to carry loads of kit then let them, at least they are out cycling and having fun Yahoooooo Weeeeeeeee Wayhayyyyyyy
Scenario …..
You drift of the way marked trail at the trail centre and end up lost out in back country trails. You come to a clearing at the edge of a forest where ten naked women are dancing around a fire. Now don’t you wish you had packed more then one condom in your large rucksack/camel back.
(only applies to single speed gods as women love a single speed man)
TJ dont let them get to you. Ask any old school mtb’er and they will have now become SSers and dont buy into this loads of gear required crap. Simple gear with just enough simple kit to sort any trail problems or as we say up north “common sense tha nars”
KKF you where spot with your OP are you from these parts ?
Do I need to take bum wipe products incase I need a banging poo ? or could anyone suggest natural products that I may come across in the woods/moors ? Thanking you in anticipation of your kind/helpfull replies.
Or we could wear baggies and DH tops when out on our road bikes ? Roadies love cross dress overs don’t they ? Its rainning up north just now but heh its miles better than down south. Now which tyres should I be running wa ha har wa ha har (insane laugh)
Or
-a small bag with the correct kit thats actually required
-a good quality rigid SS that whilst struggling with 6ft drop offs will do everything else expected of it in all conditions and not break down.
-a large cake to eat whilst waitng for the techno freak brigade at the top of all the climbs.
But heh as long as we are all cyclists what does it really matter…..
You cannot PURCHASE ability, no matter how much you spend. You can however learn the basic principles and then develope your skills and fitness levels. STOP buying the latest crap produced and just ride what you have well.
It’s the brave new world of “skills compensators” and the purchasing of techno shite you don’t actually need. The good guys ride well on hard tails and carry the minimum kit required. The really good guys ride SS …………
Only ginger tossers ride SS, fact 8) but they do have the ability to gobble (well jaffa cakes anyway) In reply to the OP …. just do it,get up to speed on it and dust the geared freaks…….
Never left 26″ers after watching the freak show that is 29er riders !!! and the fact that I am only 5ft 5″ tall has nothing to do with my choice of dam fine danny horses 8)
No keeping my Hatchet for all that powder at good old Sunshine again this season YAHOO !!!!!!! bring it on I may just stop out there for good this time.
Burton boots & ride Sp1 bindings are the muts nuts IMHO.
