I Put a ccdb air on my five this year after the squeaking from the rp23 became too much to take. It took around 5 rides and one day doing the same trails over and over again to finally set it up right. What it has given me though is a feeling which belies the amount of travel it has. I got it set up for ultimate traction, suppleness and with a nod to pedalling efficiency. I’m very happy with it but then I was happy with the five beforehand too. Its new party trick is that now it will climb up practically anything! I now point the bike and ludicrously rocky ascents and it crawls its way over them to the disbelief of myself and my pals. The ccdb is a serious bit of kit. One warning though and that is out of the box, untuned its a bit of a dog. If you understand how suspension works and how you want your bike to feel its a very worthy upgrade. If not then get a shop to set it up for you.
stumpyjumperFree MemberJonathan Boyle based in Horsforth. Set us up a mortgage explained everything clearly and I’m self employed so it wasn’t that straightforward. An all together excellent chap. He can be found at acorn estates, station road Horsforth.
Good luck with your housestumpyjumperFree MemberCinnamon crust apple pie for my lovely missus and cold pizza for me. Both eaten in bed with large cups of tea.
Breakfast 2 to follow once we get up.stumpyjumperFree MemberStein inn at stein for an unforgettable sunset if its clear. Languistines and cracking ale to boot too.
The quirang is a fantasy like place on bike or foot. You have to go the cuillins and you have to go the slig too.
RIB ride to rhum for the deer rutting would be pretty amazing. Finally if you can afford it the three chimneys restaurant do amazing food and great service.Oh, just remember if you want to get anywhere on Skye its at least an hour!
stumpyjumperFree MemberBruce, that’s exactly how I feel. I have owned oranges for years steadily upgrading from a subzero, crush finally to my dream bike, a five. I’m definitely been guilty of being a fan boy and gushing about them to everyone and going on about their legendary cornering ability.
I was told It had the wrong bearings in it. (Impossible you can’t put wrong bloody bearings in it!) and to bend it like that someone must have stood on it. The entire feeling I got was that they just wanted me to go away.
Now I’m no Luddite and I am open to all change. I’m actually putting some 650b’s on the 456 to see what it feels like.
What’s totally pissing me off is that after going to the manufacturer in the uk they refuse to help me. It’s not like an LBS dragging their feet. This is it. A definitive no. Now I don’t have my dream bike anymore. I’m combing the ads and eBay for a swing arm. Utterly depressing.
Just hope any of you five owners out there don’t have any problems.stumpyjumperFree MemberI tried to get a new swing arm for a 5 from Orange last week as mine has somehow become twisted. I cannot believe what they told me. ” it’s not a warranty as it more than 2 years old” fair enough. Can I buy a new swing arm please ” no we don’t make 26″ swing arms anymore” I nearly fell over. What so you don’t have ANY? ” we have a few for warranty and that’s it” cheers orange looks like I’m getting a different brand now. It made my blood boil
stumpyjumperFree MemberI’m lying in bed with food poisoning and northwinds post really made me giggle. Cheers (stomach hurts like hell now though!
stumpyjumperFree MemberMy dad an ex waddington pilot took me to that show when I was 4 I still remember holding on to the tin fence as it, my entire body and everything else vibrated away. Old man thought I would be bawling as I turned round. I had the biggest smile on my face ever. We still go every year and it still chokes me up every time she flies
stumpyjumperFree MemberIf your going to be riding mainly at MK to begin with (that and the fact the season is about to end shortly) then I would go for around a 154 – 158 size board. since the rise and redesign of all the different cambers how you size a board up for someone has changed. Before it was done mainly on rider height. Now its more to do with weight, feet size and rider style/aspiration. With your budget aiming at the second hand market then get as decent a board around those sizes as you can find. Avoid any big mountain, freeride or powder boards as they will be quite stiff and harder to turn. In turn that could lead to you to catch more edges. Try for a more all mountain, freestyle, park board. It will be more suited to indoor riding and easier to use and learn on.
Good luck. Welcome to the world of frozen sliding.
stumpyjumperFree MemberSnapped my XX skiing a few years back right across the nosepiece. Sent Oakley an email asking if they could replace them. They wanted a story of how I broke them and asked to for them to be sent back. A week later I received a package with pair of glasses with brand new frames, rubbers and polished lenses. They apologised they did not do the same colour frame so there was no charge! Best service ever.
stumpyjumperFree MemberWether spoons ale festival for me tonight. Lucky to have 2 quality spoons within walking distance so 8 different beers to try!
stumpyjumperFree MemberIf you like panet rock try kerrang during the day. Rock years on every day from 10am is always good
stumpyjumperFree MemberSaracen myst. If you can find any left in stock anywhere they can be had for under £3000
stumpyjumperFree MemberJust fitted one to my winter hard tail. I took it apart, greased everything as there was none in it and fitted it. It’s ace. 3 positions. Works, looks and feels just like a gd. After fixing several dodgy reverbs il take this over one.
stumpyjumperFree MemberIt may of been yesterday’s ace blast around llandegla or it may be a razz on the hard tail today.
Just back on the bike after 3 weeks of feeling like death. It’s so god to be turning circlesstumpyjumperFree MemberBalvenie double wood and a mince pie parcel. It all has to stop on Wednesday though!
stumpyjumperFree MemberDid the Christmas shop at 8am in horrific rain which turned biblical rain. Missus went running so I settled down to play Star Wars on ps3 all day. It’s been ace. Had to turn it off as I was beginning to believe I am a Jedi!
stumpyjumperFree MemberGet one, put a 50mm stem on it and match it with a pair of 150 thru bolt forks of your choice and start grinning.
I hated mine when I first built it up. It took several stem/bar/fork changes to make it come alive. That top tube is long.
Love it to bits now. Bonus is as its carbon and swoopy its a doddle to clean.stumpyjumperFree MemberI did this a long time ago when I started. My advice if you we’re to do it nw would be to get a thin down gillet and wear that underneath. The small but essential loft may just be what you need
stumpyjumperFree MemberGet a glass half pint glass with handle
Teaspoon of honey in the bottom
Slice of lemon in there too
Stick of cinnamon
Generous measure of your favourite whisky try and avoid islays it goes best with speysides or blends
Finally grate about 3mm of fresh ginger into a tea strainer and pour the just boiled water of the ginger into the glass
Let the ginger steep in the glass for a minute.
Remove and enjoyOr try a hot buttered rum. My misses lives em.
stumpyjumperFree MemberYep, of course you should . Once in a lifetime needs a new stick.
stumpyjumperFree MemberOW what size are you after. I have just built up my 16 c456 to save my five from the glom of winter. It’s a full 27 spd avid brakes sensible wheels and tires with 145 forks. If you fancy a go we could meet up at the peak sometime. I’m from Leeds and haven’t ridden the peak in years. Bike hire in exchange for a bit of guiding?
Drop me a mail at andywoodmtbATgmail.comCheers
stumpyjumperFree MemberIl keep my eyes peeled and if Amy come in the workshop il let you know. Worth while having a drive around hawks worth/Bramley area?
stumpyjumperFree MemberBeen riding dh ever since shift, super 8 and kranked were the newest riding vids. Iv always had a big bike in my fleet and although I only ride It a few times a year it makes my normal riding much quicker. Rarely get to play anywhere other than warners and occasionally Scotland. Should really sell it but somehow can do it.
stumpyjumperFree MemberWe cook whatever bake off does ever week. Made a steak, ale, potato and onion pie tonight. Could hardly lift the bugger out of the oven!
stumpyjumperFree MemberFriday local trails to the jump spot and razzednaround there with the kids. Saturday in beautiful Marsden around the pennine way. Sunday Shipley Glen and baildon. All was going so well until I crashed into a an upended tree onto it’s roots I now look like iv been branded with a child’s Lego collection.
stumpyjumperFree MemberHi Tom
Went out for a cheeky blast around your neckmof the woods last night. Ended up playing out withbthe kids at Adel jumps. I’m free on Sunday and will be up for a ride then. Crop me a mail beforehand and we can arrange something.
stumpyjumperFree MemberHi Tom, we bailed last night because of the weather.

Andywoodmtb@gmail.comNormally ride around here at least once a week in the evening (summer and winter) and further afield on a weekend.
More the merrier !!
stumpyjumperFree MemberRide up on ilkley moor for whoever wants to come for a ride tomorrow. Starting at the cow and calf cafe at 6.30 going over ilkley to the pond then over to keighley gate, circle, rocky valley, White wells and back. Difficulty about 3.5 out 5 in technicality and around a 2.5 in fitness. If you could mke it Tom il introduce you to the north Leeds boys.
stumpyjumperFree MemberIv got a five with 36s on double etc and it fantastic all round but ESP when pointing down. Tried a mates alpine and genuinely preferred my five. It felt more nimble and can’t say noticed a difference on the rear travel. Both ad 160 36s.
Also got a 224 and it hardly gets used anymore as.A)you have to take it to dh course to use it
B) I’m getting older and can’t use it’s potential anymore.
C) it’s right at the back if the workshopI hav considered getting a blood to replace it but apart from maybe an alpine trip I reallywouldnt get the use
stumpyjumperFree MemberChances are it will be 113mm most octolink xt crank setups I have come across is 113. If not that and if the crank arm looks very close to the bb body then it’s a 110mm
stumpyjumperFree MemberCoffee, 4 slabs of soreen toastie. That stuff is addictive.
stumpyjumperFree Member+1 here
Bikes are shod with mud tires but the conditions are that bad here that it makes little to no difference. I’m going to wait until it dries up this winter.stumpyjumperFree MemberExtra spacer on drive side bb. Then see if it’s the chainring bolts grinding on the device.
stumpyjumperFree MemberTo echo what wihernsea said first of all you need to decide which big city you need to be near to if at all. Then you can start seeing where you want to be. Skip ton has. The dales on the doorstep and less than an hrs drive to the lakes. Otley has great food and drink and is losing it’s clicky nature as that population gets replaced. A very strong road scene centred around chevin cycles and the amazing ilkley moor within riding distance. Keighley has never made the change from industrial town to a modern, regenerated place. I would look at bail don or shipley if that’s your price bracket.
stumpyjumperFree MemberAny of the big companies will do you a months free trial download, serif, power director, Sony, etc…
Make sure once you have finished your work you save it back as is original file. Eg. Avi otherwise it will be written as a project file and you will only be able to open it with that program. Pd is best for doing that IMO.stumpyjumperFree MemberLove vibes and respect to meehaja too. You guys are ace too. Even without a big chopper… 😉
