Stumpy, I live in the (one-time) car crime capital of England and my premium's £130 less than yours with a 10 year old TD Focus estate, fully comp and a fair few extras – do you use the comparison sites?

#apologies to OP for totally unhelpful post#

Yes ive used comparison sites , as well as stand alone sites and still get crap quotes !
not sure if its the car or where i live / mileage etc ?

I had 2 brass cup holders machined at work and put them onto 12mm threaded bar with nuts each end , all you do is tighten the nuts and hey presto , headset in ..
    where are you ?
if your in birmingham , you can borrow it
Have also used a BIG G clamp with bits of wood either end to protect the headset cup ….

Brack .. really feel for you mate , know exactly what your goin through .. Hadnt really got on with my dad for 15+ years , but last year he was admitted to hospital with bowel cancer and the 8 weeks he was in hospital , i spent as much time with him as i could and we talked , which is something we had never done before, we managed to build a few bridges and patch things up , just before he died ….
Thing is , he died exactly 1 year ago today !! .. 7.31pm to be precise ..
I know it may be hard , but you really need to sort things out, even if its just for your own peace of mind …
Hope you sort it and good luck

    Best thing I ever did

If your company is at all generous then you should be looking at a pretty packet with 12 years under your belt.

You dont know our place , they finished quite a few last year and some had been there 20 plus years and only got 10K – 12K !

Id be lucky if i got out with 8-10K

stumpy_m4 – not wanting to be a killjoy but the undulations, bumps etc. at Thetford do tend to provoke achy lower back. Be careful

Thanks for the warning , ive decided to give it a miss ..
Id rather give the ride up than do some proper damage to my back .. there`s always next year !

Id love to ride to work , its just over 20 miles each way , but it would mean leaving the house at 5.15 in the morning , and there are no showers at work ..

commencal managed to rustle up, eventually, an 06 frame for me earlier in the year so you never know you might be able to get an 08 frame after all

I`m hoping they do , as ive said before i really dont like the newer ones , just abit concerned it may happen again to the 08 frame !
As its a Mongoose canaan , i presume it will be hotwheels the shop will deal with , anyone dealt with them before ?? .. any problems ?

Whats actually broken? if it's just the front they might just replace that part and not the rest or vice versa.

Its where the top tube and seat tube meet , there a gusset there and the frame has cracked above the gusset
They also want me to send the seatpost as well ,I bet they go down the route that ive had too much seatpost out and thats what caused it , thing is its still got the standard 300 mm post in it and while it was near the limit it wasnt on it or past it

I have a Mongoose Canaan Elite which is 8 months old but only been ridden a handful of times and proberly done less than 250 miles ! , while the bike is an absolute joy to ride , the suspension action is first class as long as your seated !! .. not very active while standing though … but i can put up with that
BUT today on a little trip up to long mynd , while climbing it was creaking and groaning like an old lady , got to the top by the trig point and had a quick look at things only to find a nice crack appearing around the seatube gusset !!
so it looks like this will be going back for replacment .. other than this .. they are a nice bike to ride

Anyone local to the venue and care to tell us how the ground is doing after all this rain?

Also just got back from pitching tents etc ,had a bit of a walk round to see what the track was like and at the mo the only really muddy section is in the woods at the top of the first climb , easily 3-4 inchs in places , i had trouble walking , let alone riding … the decent just after that is very slippery as well …. slid down on my arse ! …. lots of roots at the bottom to keep you occupied … think alot will walk down it or slide like i did !
    Enjoy :-)

Only downside is getting used to seeing it move about quite a lot whilst on the move. However I haven't ever had a similar rack to compare to. I had a Thule "backpack" previously and that didn't move at all

Just a bit concerned about it moving about !
I could just about move my old thule on the towball and that bothered me !!
I want something solid on the ball
